What about when you meet someone on the phone. Do you use verbal quotes? "Nice to meet you?"

I think meeting people online is just as valid a way to meet people as in person. In fact, you often get to really know people online quicker than in person.

I'm actually way easier to talk to in person than on here. I've never quite gotten good at talking on forums. Not sure why.

I tend to be shy based on cirumstance. I wouldn't be shy meeting any of you because I've talked to you all before. I'm not shy at work talking to strangers. I am shy when I'm with a group of people I don't know very well. I was shy when I was meeting bdh's friends and family for example. I tend to shy up when I'm in a class full of new people. etc.

I was very shy when I was younger. Bartending/serving kinda kicked it mostly out of me. It's one of the main reasons I tend to be most outgoing a work.

linki - sabie - I'm the opposite. hehe.

I am not good at talking to strangers irl. I tend to feel "safer" in this kind of situation, so am much more outgoing. Most of my rl friends are people I went to school with, or worked with, thus breeding familiarity that way. The rest are people I have been introduced to by other people i already knew. I do not walk up to strangers in buses or stores and start talking to them.

I have social anxiety so I am awful talking to strangers in person. Online too, but it is at least manageable.

I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression but finally found the right medication that works for me which is great. Hate relying on meds to function but it works so I'm good with that. I've gotten a lot better but for some reason my anxiety comes out more when I'm trying to chat online or through text than actually talking to someone in person.

I'm the opposite. I get more anxiety in person then online. I used to take medicines as well for a couple years but have recently weened off them. I know it's not fun having to take them but it really will help stabilize things :)

I would be diagnosed with them too if I went to some person who diagnoses such things.

In this instance, a disorder is a mental or behavioral pattern or anomaly that causes either suffering or an impaired ability to function in ordinary life (disability), and which is not developmentally or socially normative.

What Vomps said. Is being bad at math a disorder? Math is necessary in a lot of ordinary life. Is being a bad writer a disorder? Writing is necessary to a lot of ordinary life. Is falling in love a disorder? That causes suffering like crazy. I think presuming to tell people what is ordinary" or "normal" is arrogant, and I think classifying every deviation from the mean as a disorder is extremely dangerous.
