Holiday Goodie Exchange [2022]

Quick link to Holiday Goodie Exchange 2016 edition

Years back, on the Lostpedia forums, we had a Christmas Candy Exchange. We drew names from the people that signed up, and sent them some local flavor for the holidays. The year I did it, I got a box full of English chocolate from a young lady in the UK, and I sent her a box of Montana Huckleberry Candies & Cowboy Chocolates. Then, after the holidays, we went back to the thread and showed off our loot :noble:

I am gauging interest in a concept like that for this group. If we have enough interest it might be fun :) And it does not have to be candy; it can be any locally made food (that travels well, of course) that you think your person may like. For instance, i have an awesome loose leaf tea shop near my house, with a helpful proprietress, and I know a few people might like a gift like that. Or perhaps you have an amazing home town hot sauce, or local wildflower honey, or an amazing coffee roaster, or whatever else.

If I get enough interest in this, we can get this going with a target mailing date around the US Thanksgiving, which is November 27 this year.

This would, of course, involve revealing your address and real name to someone else (only the person you are exchanging with; names will be picked via the ever popular Random.org :D) So make sure you are comfortable before signing up for this.

We could kind of agree on a $$ limit so no one feels pressured. I was thinking $10-$20 US (not sure how that translates)

It was a lot of fun, especially if you get people from a wide range of places. We don't have as far flung a crowd as we did there, but we are all over North America, with a smattering further afield.

I'm totally in on this, btw, but I guess I can't send huckleberry candies since someone else already will. :p

I don't live in Montana anymore~ I am on Long Island. I don't think anyone would like it if I sent them a Bluefish, so I won't. Otherwise we're just famous for being Jersey Shore Lite. I will come up with something :)

I likely won't be home until December 3rd at the earliest or else I could send some fun British candy. I don't think Rochester has anything fun people would want lol

It's not the candy. The dentists are awful there. Luckily my soon to be new stepfather is a dentist, so I had him check my teeth while here :D

Thanksgiving is a generic date, I am sure an extra few weeks is no issue. And there are tons of NYS things.

Well, that's some good timing... I literally just finished packing this:

Super expensive to ship abroad, though, and depending on the dates I might not be able to. May go to the US for a bit these holidays so we'll see...

that could be epically awesome or epically gross. Is it a local neighborhood treat or is it like Hersey's?

Ricolino is a huge candy maker across Mexico. Go to any store here and it will have Bubulubus, Paletas Payaso, gummy bears ("Panditas") and a bunch other Ricolino products. Nothing tops this one, though.

sooo...this is like Mexico's version of reece's cups or special dark chocolate bars? cuz I could get behind that.

I'm skerred though that it might be like the Mike's chocolate covered cherry malt beverage - my poor sweet hubbie bought it because it 'sounds good' - but it was bad - so very bad.

like lays cappuccino chips bad. (which they also tried.)

Oh -and also - I've broken up with Hostess since they decided to rape my childhood. Little Debbie all the way now. :noble:

I changed the thread title to "Holiday Goodie Exchange" since that is actually more accurate since it isn't just candy.

You actually tried those abominations? You're braver than I thought.

I'm totally down for doing this. There's enough eccentric stuff in and around Cincinnati that I could find something worthwhile. And if I can't, someone might just get a pint or half-gallon from Greater's. I'd imagine it's uber-expensive to ship, but I'll go to ice cream if it ends up being a last resort.

I'll take one of your cakes! They're pretty awesome. I'm all for this. I'm pretty sure Turkey Joints are a Central New York thing so that's probably what I'd send out. They're definitely interesting haha.

And I bet it is.
