Raptors sound like more fun, in a gory kinda way.

Butter. Sarcasm is bitter.

Own a luxury yacht or RV?

Re: Would you rather - -

by S~V~S
RV. I love driving, and while I know how to boat and operate a basic cabin cruiser, I think a yacht would be too much for one me to handle, and for me getting there is half the fun.

Would you rather go to a small venue and have your favorite band play just for you, or would you rather be in the same small venue and you play for them?

I'd rather be entertained. If I were on stage in front of them, I would probably be a wreck.

Be on The Voice or Dancing with the Stars?

Re: Would you rather - -

I would be horrid on either, but I guess Dancing with the Stars; the hosts seem a tad less vicious, lol. Plus those pro dancers can make almost anyone look less atrocious.

Which is worse; Your workplace is always too hot, or your workplace is always too cold?

I like pumpkins, or what I really like is colorful gourds & corn stalks. Mums have never been my favorite.

Would you rather see man establish a colony on Mars, or a colony at the bottom of the sea?

RAPTURE.

Colombia or Rapture?

(Look up Bioshock images of the two places)

Re: Would you rather - -

Posted: Wed Oct 12, 2016 5:35 pm
by S~V~S
Columbia. When I was younger, I would have picked Rapture probably. But in my old age, darkness (symbolic of death in general) is less attractive to me than it was when I was in my 20's. Now I want all the sunshine, flowers, chipmunks & birdsong I can get.

Hedonism or Epicureanism?

Re: Would you rather - -

Hedonism. Epicureanism is just hedonism made needlessly complicated and unnaturally modest.

Would you rather have unlimited, absolute free will and be empty or have no free will whatsoever (not even freedom of movement) and be happy?

Re: Would you rather - -

Posted: Sat Oct 15, 2016 6:31 am

Absolute free will. I spent a huge chuck of my life voluntarily being miserable & dark, so I could not respect myself as a mindlessly happy minion of the status quo.

Spinoza or Nietzsche?

Re: Would you rather - -

by a2thezebra
Spinoza. Nietzsche is a good writer but his ideas are too transparently concocted from his insecurities and grrrrrl problems for me to take them that seriously. Spinoza I don't know much about but if I'm correct that his ideas influenced pantheism then he gets points from me for that because I feel it's a step in the right direction.

I'm liking the philosophy chain we got going here.

Ethics or epistemology?

Endurantism or perdurantism?

Re: Would you rather - -

Posted: Sun Oct 16, 2016 9:15 am
by S~V~S
I had to look those up. It was interesting, thanks for making me learn something!

Perdurantism. When I read about it, it clicked with me right away. I don't think I have existed as a fully gestalt being at all points in my life, and do believe time is a quantifiable dimension along with the three normally recognized.

Is your nominal identity based on intrinsic personal attributes (i.e., male, gay, black) or society assigned attributes (French, Engineer, Student, etc.)?

Intrinsic personal attributes, though I'd like to think my nominal identity is based on neither.

Camus or Kierkegaard?

Re: Would you rather - -

Posted: Mon Oct 17, 2016 3:30 pm
by S~V~S
Interesting, mine is definitely intrinsic. I have only known one woman with a societal construct ("teacher") as her primary identity. But I have known multiple men that identify as their career as their primary identity, and at least one that identifies primarily as his nationality.

That's a tough one. I am not a person of faith and do not have any desire to surrender to faith, I *can't* take the leap of faith required for Kierkegaard. Camus makes more sense to me, and when I was younger I often let this kind of thing bring me to despair, that ultimately, all is meaninglessness. So although I *can't* accept the basic premise of the one, I don't like to accept the basic premise of Camus. But, if pushed, I would have to say Camus. Reality for the bleak win.

Rousseau or David Hume?

Worst physical feature. I earned it.

Would you rather died a peaceful death and be buried in a pine box in a church yard or blown up to the extent that there's nothing left to bury?

Blown up, not for the lack of remains but because I imagine that would be a fun and quick death.

Death by burning or death by drowning?
