Ornette Coleman has passed on.

Truly a sad day for me and jazz enthusiasts everywhere. Coleman was one of my all-time biggest musical idols and completely changed the way I looked at jazz and music in general. I'll never forget the first time I heard that saxophone. So emotional. What a legend.

Definitely spinning nothing but his records today in his honor.

Wow, that is such sad news. RIP Chris Squire. :rip:

I posted this on my Facebook, but thought it was also worth sharing here:

RIP Chris Squire (1948-2015), the heart and soul of Yes, and one of the most inspiring bassists in all of rock music. There will never be another band quite like Yes, with music so uniquely majestic and emotional. Unarguably, the span of albums from The Yes Album through Going for the One is the pinnacle of classic progressive rock, representing a band that really broke the boundaries of rock to create such original, groundbreaking music. Squire's impact on rock music will never be lost on me and so many others who fell in love with progressive music thanks to Yes. "Close to the Edge" was the song I listed as my favorite song in my senior high school yearbook. For those of you who know me well, you know that I cannot really choose a favorite song, but that selection lends credence to how much I have loved Yes, and how inspiring that song has been to me, since it beat out every other song (yes, even all Rush songs). I will never forget the first time I heard the Close to the Edge album. I loved it so much and listened to it every day thereafter for months. To this day, it remains one of my all-time favorite albums containing some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard and will ever hear. I feel so fortunate to have seen them live with my dad in 2013. Nonetheless, it's a sad day. Squire's music with Yes absolutely changed my life and I am very happy for that, but progressive rock fans everywhere will surely be saddened, as I am, to lose such an outstanding musician.

Would you believe me if I told you that the very last piece of music we were listening to in the car on the way home from church just now was the "Amazing Grace" bonus track on Going for the One?

:rip:

My favorite member of Yes.

That's fitting.

He really was an outstanding guy, wasn't he? Probably my favorite member as well, if we're not counting Bill Bruford.

Low and Ziggy sound as amazing as ever; already listened to them both twice this morning. Then there's Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, Station to Station, Heroes, Diamond Dogs... the list goes on. What a fucking legacy. The man was a genius.

Sad indeed. On NPR the other day they were just talking about his new album, and played a little snippet of a few of the tracks. He had not lost any of his creativity or talent. Very sad news. :sigh:

Haven't listened to ELP in a long time, but the first time I heard Brain Salad Surgery was one of the very first moments in my path of musical discovery where I was really amazed by something that musicians could produce. I'll never forget the first time I heard that album; I was so blown away by all of the different keyboards and the virtuosity of Keith's playing. Really was a formative moment for me, along with hearing Rush albums for the first time as well as Pink Floyd, and opened up my mind considerably to the fact that music could be more than what I heard on the radio.

RIP Keith.

Well, it could be used for good music news too, like reunions and such. For example, the LCD Soundsystem reunion! :D

He was amazing and entertaining. ELP was one of the most unique styles of its time.

The captcha is also broken for me. Did you try a different browser (I am using Firefox; I know my employers website works best with Microsoft browsers)? If that is not the case, did you try "contact"?

I just tried the Microsoft browser, and that did not work, either. I even tried the Facebook log in, and it just returned me to the home page.

i would guess their site is overwhelmed right now.
