Mechanical Mafia

This will probably be a speed game, but the goal is to try a few of the weird mechanics that have been floating around in my head. Comments are in green

RULES:
1. No discussing the game outside the thread unless you have BTSC
2. ***ROLE CLAIMING, HINTING, AND OUTING ARE ALLOWED***
3. Asshattery is strictly forbidden
4. If a tie lynch occurs, both players die.

19 players total
Roles:

Civvie: (15)
Buccaneer: Can discover if a player is aligned with mafia or not.
The Engineer: Can save one person each night from night kills.
Wall-e: Can restart any day once during the game
Android 17- If this player votes for the same player as Android 18, their combined vote counts for 4
Android 18- If this player votes for the same player as Android 17, their combined vote counts for 4
Megaman- Challenges a player each day for their role.
Iron Giant- Can roleblock one a person each night.
The Terminator- Can kill a player each night at the cost of starting the next day with +4 votes
Rosie: (Jetsons): Starts each day with -1 votes
The Energizer Bunny: Survives one Lynch
Cyborg:
Optimus Prime: Can remove a player from the poll each night
Bender: Decides all ties (because fuck you that's why)
C-3PO: Knows the identity of R2D2
R2D2: Knows the identity of C-3PO

Mafia (3)
Hal 9000: Knows all roles, but is not given BTSC with anyone allowed to anyone. Other Mafia do not know the identity of this player.
GLaDOS: Can do one of the following each night (kills every night)
1. Silence a player
2. Force a player to not vote
Megatron: Can choose to appear as any role upon death

Indy (1)
Gir : Can only win if Lynched. All players who vote for this person are instantly killed and barred from winning the game if he dies.

More to be added and balanced.

Thoughts so far? Specifically balancing issues from more experienced host/game makers?

By the sounds of it, the only way any one player can share his thoughts with the rest of the thread is through the use of his lynch vote, is that correct?

Nope, it's an open thread if that's what you meant. Anyone can talk in thread at any time assuming they aren't dead.
didn't mean to imply that.

That's how I understood this part.

I've always wanted to include a fool (joker) in a game. Yours is certainly an extreme variation. I like it! :D

oh, I kinda just copy and pasted it from the standard forum rules <_<
And thanks!

Where Timmer originally played, they also allowed info & role claiming. Indeed, it was an integral game mechanic. So if you need tips or ideas on how to make it work, Timmer might be the guy to talk to. I know he ran two games like that at RM, they were called Liars Club, should you wish to take a look at them.

If this gets played, I hope that there is a unanimous lynch of the Fool on day 1 :D

Made here is the info about his forum:
timmer wrote:I'm running a mafia game on an Academy Awards/movies site: awardswatch.com/forums. It's theme is "Films of 2014" and I need a sub.

the thing is, before you jump in, know that they play mafia in reverse.

You do NOt know the roles. You ARE allowed, and are often expected, to infodump.

Knowing when and how to reveal your info is part of the art of this style of mafia.

Not knowing the roles, the mafia has to wait to see what the townies start to hint at about their roles and then try to lie about theirs, as once the mafia's theme is revealed when one dies, the rest would get screwed if they had used their real roles.

Anyway, let me know ASAP if you are interested and I'll parachute you right in! We don't normally let brand new members play to avoid cheating by members etc. but I would obviously personally vouch for you, and it's my game anyway :noble:

Oh, and one last bit of color... there are some post restrictions out there. Let's just say that one guy is Groot. All he can ever say, the entire game, is "I am Groot". :feb:
It is rather different from your game in some ways, but some elements are similar. I am looking forward to this; I would imagine that, unusual mechanics aside, you would be an amazing & imaginative host.

Yessir, I think I might of just found my detective. (haven't watch FMA, but from the wiki description this seems fitting.)

Buccaneer is awesome.

And FMAB and Death Note are my two favorite manga/anime series.

I've never seen a role that could know every other player's role. That's gonna be hella hard to play correctly. Does mafia get a kill?

This looks awesome, Made!

From a balancing standpoint... it's sort of difficult to assess, for a few reasons:
1) Role outing is allowed
2) The independent role :P
3) Hal 9000

I definitely really like the setup you have though. I'm thinking on it... but I have a couple of questions first:

What does Megaman do exactly?

And Cyborg?

Too many civilian kills. There probably shouldn't be two groups of civilian BTSC. Hal can kill but knows who everyone is, which means he can take out the killers and BTSC guys first (that's what I would do). Balance is indeed hard to assess because you have a clusterfuck of a game here. Not bad if that's what you're going for, I guess.

Cyborg is kinda in the air atm
Megaman and other player chosen at random will be given a puzzle or riddle. If Megaman solves it and random player does not, Megaman gets their power the next day.
The way I've tried to structure the game was similar to party mafia, where there is very little provable information in existence, as party mafia works around the idea that anyone can say anything. Anything glaring?

Oh, Forgot to make this explicit, Hal doesn't have BTSC or any influence over who mafia chooses to kill, he's just kinda there for the ride.
Also, Didn't mean to have two civvie NKs, I was looking for my civvie killed, didn't see him immediately, so I added a new one. fixing that...
And why not two groups of Civvie BTSC? would it improve civvie chances of finding baddies too greatly?

Civilians tend to out themselves by vouching for one another. That's just something you're going to want to limit is all. No major reason you couldn't include two.

I have plans for a Mega Man Mafia, by the way. :D My favorite series growing up.

I think I agree, maybe just one group of civilian BTSC and one civilian kill. It's difficult to predict what will happen, though, so other than that I think you might be OK.

I might have made Hal9000s power a secret. But the psycho supercomputer is out of the bag so :shrug2:

Maybe he can have a cookie? Say every night he submits a name to the host, and if thats who the baddies kill, his vote is worth two the next day? Or if he gets 3 correct guesses he gets a night save, or a lynch stop? Something along those lines? That could be a fun role to play with.

Do you think a buff is needed? Hal would be hard to play right, but if played correctly could prove to be broken af. At the same time, if played poorly, it's a pretty weak role.

Yeah it could be an awesome role, but a little motivation can't hurt. Like he can't make too many cases, fail or good, becasue it will draw a target on him. He can't buddy up too much for the same reason, especially with BTS civs. If I was a civ in this game, i would be looking for Hal.

I love the concept of this role, and look forward to seeing what you do with it, even just leave it as it is, and see how it plays out.

Good news for Hal is that he knows who Gir is, so he wouldn't mistake lynching him while he gets to watch all the other players die.

OK - so the mafia are Hal and two others. Hal does not have BTS with the other two members, but the other two members have BTS with each other right?

If I were Hal - I'd be trying to kiss up to the civs while signalling my teammates that I'm Hal -don't kill me.
If I were the other mafia - I'd be looking for Hal to signal me.
If I were a civ, I'd be VERY wary of anyone who seemed they were buddying up to me. Not that anyone does. I don't have ideas worth buddying up to - but yea. If I were svs or dh or lc or someone - I'd look for that.

It could work. I agree with SVS - that role would have been awesome as writ but with the word *secrets* in front of their role description. Same thing with the Indy. :D

Affirmative, bea. That's a very nice assessment, bea.

The game is afoot.
