Hello Syndicate members! Now that the Game of Champions has wrapped up and "winners" have been decided, it's now the time to vote on 2015's Annual Socky Awards. We have several awards to hand out for various accomplishments and game designs that we held this year, and it's up to you to vote on the winners of your choice. I'll start by announcing this year's awards.

Here are the guidelines for voting in the 2016 Sockys:

• One vote is permitted per Award per Syndicate member.
• You are eligible to vote if you played in or hosted at least one mafia game in 2015.
• All votes must be PM'd to Sockys2015 account to be counted.
• You are not required to vote for every category.
• All questions should be directed to myself, Golden, or fingersplints. A list of eligible games is listed below.
• The voting process will be open for one week. The deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Monday, February 22nd.
• Discussion of your votes is permitted, but an element of surprise is nice too.
• *Because there are so many possibilities for Best Quote, your submission for Best Quote will act as a nomination, and we will hold a final vote for this next week.

Since Star Wars was excluded from the Game of Champions due to the timing of it, and because it technically ended in 2016, it will not be on the ballot this year.

Monopoly was kinda on this bubble too. It did end in 2014, but it wasn't a part of the 2014 Sockys, and it also had a couple of roles in this year's Game of Champions, so I added it to the list.

Nevermind. You can sort the Members list by sign-up date. Wow! That's a lot of new people to sift through!

Yeah, there are way too many awesome new players/members, it was impossible to pick only one person!!

Nope. All votes you submit are for the final awards, with the exception of the Best Quote. Thus, every game, and every player in each game this year is up for nomination.

For the Best Quote, we will take all nominations and hold a final vote next week after the preliminary vote has closed.

Man, I can't even remember all the good quotes from the games I played. I'll have to remember to pluck out the good ones as this year goes along for the 2016 awards.

Strangely enough, best quote is the only easy one for me, and maybe the only one I'm qualified to even vote for. :P

@ G-Man. Yeah, folks should definitely mention in thread their favorite quotes from this past year. It will help remind others who may have forgotten about an excellent quote, and may help inspire some to remember a good one. It's easy to look at a list of games, because that list is so small in comparison. But remembering some of the best moments with a quote is much more difficult, unless of course you have it sig'd.

This might be just because I'm tired, but I'm slightly confused about the wording of this.

No, you can vote for each award. The Blue headings aren't the categories, they are just sort of putting the various awards in to chunks for ease of reading. The actual awards are the categories.

Also, the "Best New Member" is like best new player at the Syndicate. This includes anyone who joined the Syndicate in 2015, even if they came from other sites.

I presume New Player is only for those totally new to forum mafia then?

If so, Soneji shouldn't be on that list either; he's from Naruto Forums. Other than that, you should be OK.

My bad, I wasn't referring to what Sloonei was saying. I was just pointing out that Soneji is under the Player list, and he should only be under the Member list (due to being from NF).

As to the Members additions, good plan.

I'll correct my vote for Player now that they've been defined differently.

Yeah, that's definitely true; he's schooled me in plenty of board games even. I think the transition to online/forum-based was difficult, yeah.

Speaking of Zomba and Snowman, I hope they come back soon. Maybe after coursework is over in May.

Utterly confused. On one hand, I technically qualify for both New Player and New Member (or whatever you feel like calling / defining them), based on what you just defined as eligible. On the other hand, if New Syndicate Members should only include 2015 signups, then I shouldn't qualify. One should probably check in with Roxy or fingersplints if they included me on the 2014 Best New Player category [in which Bass won]. I am certainly not interested in being granted inclusion in a category for two years in a row, simply because of trickster technicalities or flexible interpretations of the eligibility span.

Interpret it however you would like to... I guess it is like a miss congeniality award. I guess for the person you feel has contributed most to the spirit of the site.

Right! The spirit award comes from RYM; it's something we've done in our most recent few awards things. I implemented it there with a mind primarily for sportsmanship, treatment of new players, and general friendliness as a player. It's a nice way to recognize someone who just makes the game more enjoyable and pleasant to play regardless of their actual success or even perceived skill level.

That's my interpretation, but it's a very broad thing like Golden suggested.

On RYM we definite it as the person whose involvement in a game puts the biggest smile on your face. It's my favorite category.

There is precedence for this. Bass_the_Clever won the Best New Player last year for 2014, even though he signed up in December, 2013.

Yes, exactly this. The person you vote for the Spirit Award is the person you enjoy playing with the most. Mafia abilities aside, this person generally makes the game more enjoyable with his/her presence alone.
