Fantastic game by the way. As much as I like to design unorthodox games I couldn't dream of conceiving something like this, let alone hosting it. Bravo hosts!

It probably says something that I can look back on my hosting career (especially here) and my first thought is that this game is probably middle of the road or lower in terms of complexity or experimentation in my games. :haha:

All nine independent prisoners had the same win con (get paroled). We set it up so that every prisoner could actually choose via PM to me someone else to "break out" with them, and JJJ chose Ricochet.

Likewise, G-Man chose timmer.

We asked everyone whether they wanted to stay in the main game or leave, as well, and secretly were restricting it so that only one prisoner max per parole could remain in the game. So when JJJ told me he wanted to remain, it didn't matter whether Rico wanted to or not, since JJJ got first choice, and thus Rico had to leave regardless of his preference.

To add more to that, the reason we set that up was to give the independent prisoners a larger chance at satisfying their win cons. We also were super strict on people identifying themselves or others for the same reason. Daisy and I really thought the independent prisoners would have a really tough time getting paroled because the main players would obviously want to parole someone from their own team, but it didn't turn out that way at all, to our surprise.

And I guessed Bea, Rico & JJJ for sure during the first prison break.
Yep, I remember Golden calling me weird names like G-Man or MacBaddie, to which your reacted with an "oh you silly" or something. XD

This game was amazing, I'm glad to have been in it while I was.

The thing I found most difficult was not being able to see the thread after death. I really like to follow along with things after I die.

Was there any point in which there were fears that Epig being handed the Warden duty would be too on the nose, given the Shawshank theme of that sock being adapted? Or did any player attempt making the connection, in private or public? I admit I didn't, the only contenders I thought of were Golden and Turnip Head, for some reason. Yet the Bublé thing in E.S.T. just now made me think how, sometimes, the design can backfire.

So you really thought it was me?

Roleplay should give it away immediately. I suck at it and don't attempt it unless I absolutely have to. The only way I would have been Shawshanking it up is if I was forced to speak only in Shawshank quotes.

I had no certainty it was you, but I did genuinely built that antagonism based on you tauntingly sockguessing, while we, having just gotten out for some fresh, were under strict rules not to even joke around with that.

As for the Warden's roleplay, I do reckon a bit of Shawshank dialogue was imported, but otherwise he simply posted neutral, monitoring commands.

I was a bit concerned, and so was Epi, but I told him we had the Shawshank avatar picked out before he was selected, and would readily rely such information (as well as the "we are posting under Warden account"), so we figured it wouldn't be a problem.

Oh, MP, why did you need me to write a "letter to a family member" or whatever it was, at the start of the game? Did we all do that? Good question!
MovingPictures07 wrote:If you all still have questions, by the way, keep throwing them at us!

I realized I never revealed the "prison letters", so for those of you who are curious... here is some more prison stuff.

The "split into two groups and identify the other groups' fictional letter" challenge unfortunately never happened, even though Daisy and I thought it was one of the hardest challenges, and I'm sure the prisoners were wondering why I was having them write those damn letters! They never got to find out in game. So I thought I'd share at least the ones I collected. I eventually stopped asking folks for them because it was clear the mechanic wouldn't come into play.
Also, you can find where I posted them all by clicking this.

Ah, good question! We didn't talk about this somehow!

They would have been, but Daisy and I both used our 1-time host abilities to swap the roles of both Diiny and Tranq. Diiny's role was swapped with sprityo (who was my Traitor), and then Tranq's role was swapped with Silverwolf (who was Daisy's Stool Pigeon).

Didn't anticipate on using my 1-time role switch that early, but it actually worked out well.

Speaking of that, our hosts did something pretty amazing here. They got nine people to join a game for which they had virtually no expectation of winning. Sure, four of us came away with wins but we had no idea how the challenges would go. To get that many people to participate in what was essentially our own side-game is impressive. Kudos to the hosts for making such a strange quest worth our while and to the prisoners who stepped up and made it unforgettable. And I guess thanks should also go to the Epi the Warden for being such an antagonistic force. You made us want to defy and defeat you. We are well met in battle.

It feels extremely strange to win my first full-sized game in years in a game that I didn't even formally sign up for. I think the last time I put this much mental energy and time into a game was when I hosted.
I'm really just so freaking glad (and I know Daisy is as well) that the prison mechanic, especially with regards to you "original" independent prisoners, was such a success. It seems like you all generally really enjoyed it, and I can't believe how much effort you and many others put into the game and how invested you all became, considering you weren't part of the main game. It's definitely taught me some things about potentially employing future side game and deadie mechanics in future games.
I think the prison mechanic worked so well for the original prisoners because, even though we were part of a mafia game, we weren't actually playing the mafia aspect of it. We didn't have to hunt, push, suspect, and accuse each other. We were there to hang out and mess with the players' heads when they got to jail and found more people there than there should have been. Plus, the challenges were like team exercises. The prison was a kind of anti-mafia game, where we worked together and helped each other out, rather than tearing each other down. It was refreshing. Sometimes mafia generates a lot of neagtivity and ill will, so it was nice to have a place to be silly with a purpose. :D

timmer wrote:And I just realized I never said thank you to G-Man, so thank you my friend for setting me free, I don't play many games these days so getting a win is nice however it happens!
No problem! I really did feel like you earned it based on your level of effort during the first prison break. I really wanted to pick 208 (juliets) because we had a lot of fun together during the posting challenges but I felt I had to pick you. I'm glad juliets got credit for her effort in those posting challenges. Bea was a real sport as well. It's a shame we couldn't have gotten three prison breaks to get them wins as well.

This is about as detailed as I managed to keep my spreadsheet for this game. Main game details are incomplete and there's really no way to find out all the night power uses or vote manips, unless the Hosts kept a diary, but I also monitored Prison activity (before and after my own pardon time), sometimes with details about the challenges.

Turf Wars - Main Game
Turf Wars - Prison Time

That's ok, the main game was something I didn't have access to for the first four cycles, then only got to spectate as much as I could (meaning basically to keep track of the votes), so I don't feel this time that I have to add every possible detail to the mural. Besides, stuff like the loaning consequences or the Don's challenge's effects sound too intricate and diverse to try to cover what happened throughout the game, in that regard.

I'm more content with offering a detailed as possible track of the Penitenciary Proceedings, where I was born and raised myself, until my liberation.

Ok - so operation IVY was a smashing success!!! I'm so proud of us!!!

G-man - IDK why it never occurred to me to think that you were 813. In hindsite, it really couldn't have been anyone else. I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that I am Queen Nub for a reason and also I think this officially marks the first time I've got to play with the legendary G-man. Having your back was an honor sir. Thank you for the kind words you said about me when you were giving the skinny to the rest of the "main game" thread about us prisoners.

SVS - I knew you knew I was me when you voted me. Thank you for the vote btw. I had no business winning parole, but I did appriciate the love. :hugs:  :cloud9:

Timmer and JC - There were SEVERAL moments during the back to back posting challenges I had to literally backspace the sentence "OMG, it's the fucking flags all over again. x11tymillion." Except I was fairly sure JC was an OG and it felt identity outing. Again - with hindsite - it's funny that you were here for the fun too. Midway though the 30 minute challenge it was the fucking flags. By the end of the 10 minute challenge I would have sold my first born child to any of the peeps who were a part of that in gratitude.

Timmer - I was the one you let take a shower. I was able to do everything around the house I needed to do on my 8 minute timer, but I didn't think I could shower fast enough.

DH - I knew you were you because you are the only one I've ever asked "what is your comfort food?" and had the answer be pie. You answered the same in the get to know you thread. Between that and your fav mafia role being Riddler - and there was no doubt. I tried to leave you breadcrumbs that I was me.I was sad when you answered "no" to do you know who your cellie is? :sigh: I wonder how we would have done if the tables had been turned. I think I misunderstood what Kevin Spacey was supposed to do. I don't have a fav sports team (cuz I cut sports out of my life like yeaaars ago) so that's the one I Kevin Spaceyed.

jj - I was happy to come back and see you still in the game doing your jj thing. We all voted well. G-man kept things up on our end too. Us OG's are OG.

Epi - figures you were the damn warden. Now that I know that - I'm kinda glad that they had the challenges predetermined. You prolly would have been even more hated than you were by us OG's if you actually made them. That said. You were a great rallying point. So thanks for that. Operation IVY couldn't have been as sucessful as it was without you.

zeebs - I loved your buffy reviews. I have to say - from the posting challenges on - 606 was the person who's identity I most wanted to know. You were amazeballz. Spike is still better than Angel. At first I thought lorab was round in the prisoners too because of your reviews.

OG's - OMG - all of you. I love you. I had SO much fun this game. G-man had it right - it was refreshing and awesome to work toward a common goal rather than tear each other down and look for traitors. Things on the inside were easy. Help or get the shank. I was never around as much as I *wanted* to be, but when I was, I was always happy. Thank you so much!!!!

Sockface and Daisy - Thank you so much for allowing me to do this! I'm so happy you sent me the invite! I knew it was a game I'd never "win" per say, but I was able to participate when I could, I had no pressure of letting people down and I could spend the rare bits of free time I had with my friends even if I didn't quite know which friends I was hanging out with. I know you already know this, but this was the MOST fun I've had playing mafia in ages. Like HV ages in terms of "pressure" and "srrsbns" I wasn't checking the thread at work and I was ok with it. I had FUN. I hope that you all do continue to play with the side game/dead/non participation factor lots. I've tried small games and the speed of them doesn't work for me. I've tried big games and the work of them doesn't work for me. This was baby bear. This was just right. I would do this again in any game. :)

Thank you also for the Thug banner. Next million years when I get around to changing my sig - I will fly it with pride. In the meantime, I also humbly request that my rank be changed to my prison number. Operation IVY for life. :noble:

oh - also - waaay back - when we were doing the who said what in the thread we'd never seen challenge that LC was amazing during. I phoned a friend to llama because of the time I was up and he should post to Rocky and Bullwinkle soon. I went to bed freeking out that I'd lost it for us OG's. And then work got crazy again and I was still learning to check the yard before the cell or loose the yard info so I never learned how it ended.I actually had to ask the hosts if it worked out. Because I was stressing a bit about it.

Thanks llama for answering my phone a friend and giving us the last quote we needed to fulfill that challenge.

LC got us most of the way there, but it's my understanding that your answer was the critical last correct one we needed. :hugs:
