Known Roles Quick Reference

#1

Post by Spacedaisy »

Thought it would be interesting to compile some of the roles we have seen used in various games. Might be a useful tool for a new host who is crafting their game, or for an experienced host who is stuck for ideas. So, here are some off the top of my head, and I invite others to add to the list!

Mafia Don: mafia team leader, controls the nightly kill.

Disco: shorthand for Discovery. This role usually targets a player each night to learn their role or alignment.

Limited Disco: a variation of the above, they may learn something such as who the person targets, or if they use a night ability, or some other piece of information that does not give full disclosure of the player's role.

Civ Ninja: civilian who has a nightly kill.

Protector: as the name suggests this role Can protect a player from being killed each night.

Village Idiot: this role usually requires the player get themself lynched, usually ending up in some benefit for them, but in some cases this is simply their win condition.

Vanilla: a civilian with no special power or ability.

BTSC pair/group: players who nly have the ability to talk about the game behind the scenes.

Lovers: a pair of players who are connected and when one dies either the other dies as well or the other will sacrifice themself to protect the other. Sometimes they will have BTSC and sometimes they will not.

Role Block: again the name explains the ability, each night they can stop another player from using whatever ability they may have.

Silencer: someone who targets another player in order to keep them from talking during the following day period.

Insanifier: like the Silencer, only in this case the player affected will have their posts insanified or otherwise turned to gibberish.

Mayor: a role that is given the power to pardon or switch lynches, sometimes one or the other and sometimes both. They usually have a limited number of uses.

Vote Manipulator: the most common kind is one which can control the vote of another player in the following day lynch. Occasionally there are variations that can cause someone's vote to count as negative, or cast an extra vote, etc.

Seemer: a rare role that is used that has the ability to choose how to appear to role checks and even in lynch reveals.

Target Manipulator: a role that can switch other player's night targets around without knowledge of what they do.

Eavesdropper: role that is allowed to "hear" some BTSC conversation. This can either be fictional BTSC written by the host in order to give the player unclear information, or it can be actual snippets taken from a real BTSC.

Gypsy: A role that can curse another player, thereby inhibiting their engagement during the following day phase. For instance, they may be forced to talk in rhyme, or they may be forced to make a case on someone they don't really suspect, etc.

Serial Killer: an independent role that kills every night and must kill everyone else to win. Usually this is one role, but sometimes it can be two players working together since a single serial killer has a difficult chance of winning.

There are plenty more, but I am tired and want to let others add to the list. :) I think it would be fun if as we seek to create new roles that we can add them here too.
