Dfaraday came over and the three of us broke open T.I.M.E. Stories. It was the most fun I've had losing a cooperative game in quite a while, lol. There was moonwalking involved, that's all I will say to avoiding d spoilers.

I mean, did Alex literally get up and do the moonwalk? Because, there ought to be video evidence of that...

Reminds me of when I (vicariously) got him to do the macarena.

I did the dirty work (and won a game of mafia to boot).

DFaraday came over the other day and we played an epic game of Firefly. Seriously, of all the games I have seen done based off a TV show, or other theme like that, this is one of the best done I've ever seen. Be forewarned however, it takes up massive amounts of space. But for those that don't mind investing a few hours in a fun strategy game, BUY IT! For real. We have the base game and three of expansions. So worth the money. Replay value is amazing, and IT'S FIREFLY!

Also, I won the game. But barely. And I think Daniel said something like 21 crew members were killed in the process, lol.

As long as you're conscience is good with 21 deaths, though, Daisy... :p

I have BSG but haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'd love to have Firefly as well. Realistically, I need the right crew to play it with.

So, come visit :haha:

In my defense, they weren't all my crew that died, so they aren't all on my conscience. Also, BSG is an amazing game, that we now own but it is a total bitch to learn. No lie. The rules are so complicated that I gave up and we have yet to play our copy. We played it once with friends who have it, and that was why we bought it. It is incredibly fun, if you can sort out the rules.

Firefly actually is playable with any number of people, including solo. But it is seriously fun. I believe that we played it when birdwithteeth came to visit and he has since purchased it himself. :haha: We are a bad influence.

Finally, once we get Alex through this program and into a job, we're totally there!

Dungeons & Dragons 5E - I'm curring DMing a game that just started for this. - For people who are just getting into the game this one is super simple. I really like the rules so far.
Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 - I am playing in one of these. We use Roll20.net which is really good for Tabletop games online with friends. I would encourage the use of this if you branch into online Tabletop.
Star Trek D6 - Loads of fun, and all you need is a butt load of D6, you can probably find the rules just about anywhere online.
Star Wars D6 - Again, loads of fun. Super customization!
Vampire of the Masquerade - Weird freaking game. But so far it's holding my interest. Just started this one.
MAGE - This game is in the same Universe as Vampire, we played through a whole campaign and it was freaking cool. Game mechanics are a little weird but it's fun. We just wrapped this game up not long ago.

So outside of the Tempest Star Trek Sim I'm a busy guy as well LOL.

I played Pandemic for the first time with a couple guys at a retreat a few weeks back. It was neat. It's like a collaborative twist on Risk. We scored a major victory in preventing an outbreak that would have ended the game and then triggered a game-ending outbreak on the very next turn anyway. Such is life.

my housemates and I sometimes rent games from our local board game store (they let you rent games for 3 nights for $5 it's pretty great for checking out new games or sometimes old favorites that we don't own, like Tokaido and TTR), and this weekend we got Photosynthesis which is this awesome game about growing trees!! it's really beautiful and it has cool mechanics involving sunlight angles moving around and neighboring trees casting shadows. Definitely recommend it!

I finally bought Pandemic.

Meh.

It's not a bad game, but the mechanics seem rather pedestrian to me.

Luckily I bought Not Alone too.

We haven't played it yet, but from my understanding of the mechanics, it's going to be a blast.

My gf had a similar experience when we played pandemic. I don’t think the characters differ enough to combat the quarterbacking problem. It’s like...there’s only so many ways the characters can act, and can be run by 1 person simulating quite easily

Never tried Not Alone tho. Let me know how that plays

Not Alone is excellent. Highly recommended. Plays in 30 minutes once everybody knows what they are doing.

Pandemic or Pandemic Legacy?

Oh, okay. I can understand your criticism I suppose. The Legacy version makes the game more interesting with the various game-changing dynamics, but the basic structure of the game is the same at first.

I refuse to purchase any game that renders replaying it impossible.

The criticism is common, and to each their own, but I have to say the number of games I’ve purchased and actually played more times than I’ve played Pandemic Legacy is... a very low percentage, at least.

Replayability is an abstract concept that only has value if you actually get past a certain number of plays.

The only legacy game I've ever played is Seafall. When you get to the end,
Spoiler: show
It basically turns into a completely different board game that is replayable. Haven't figured out how good it is yet.

I was thinking it might be fun to host a game of Not Alone here on The Syndicate. It can accommodate up to seven players, and all it would require is people PMing me their actions each phase. Is there any interest in that?

I know there are some Homestar Runner fans around these parts, so if you haven't seen it yet, there's a Kickstarter for Trogdor!! The Board Game with almost a month left to go. Definitely something I'm going to check out.

I don't know who is actually in the market for Board Games right now, but if you are can I recommend you get on board with this Kickstarter here:

This is one of my favourite games ever. I also helped playtest the expansion and it maintains the quality.

Over the holiday weekend I’ve been teaching my almost-7-year-old to play Mastermind. I used to play it a lot when I went camping with my great-grandparents when I was a kid. In retrospect, my childhood love for that game had to have helped shape my analytical mind. I hope it does the same for Chloe. She broke my code in three attempts the very first time we played it. It was a fair amount of luck that she picked all four correct colors the first round but she sorted it out from there. :)
