Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Night 1

Part of me yearns to get on board with the owner suspicions coming out of that lynch, but I can't shake the things that made me think she's civ from earlier in the phase (the original interaction with DH, the dark arts thing that I very firmly read as a townslip, and maybe something else I forget)

Honestly it was just tipped over by that, but I was going to anyway because of the tie with Owner and Jay since I didn't want to lynch either of them. Then TH's post after my vote made me feel even better about it since it looked like backing off of buddying me and spinning around to a no u.

Quin, I think. I just remember you being the 4th one in the list and tying up the votes at 4.
I was the 2nd vote for TH, and at the time I don’t believe you had more than one vote.

I wasn’t around, and you made it look as though I’d dropped in to try to save you. I believe @juliets at least was fooled by that portrayal. And if you’re a mafioso, in this effort you have attempted to glue me to you, as your “partner” (in the eyes of any clueless civilians trying to interpret events) who wanted TH lynched merely to keep you alive. It’s entirely false.

You understand full well that she just erroneously assumed the poll votes reflected vote order (a reasonable assumption, as they damn well should :disappoint: ). Stop fake-reading too much into this. You're full of shit.

I just think it's ridiculous of Jay to try to paint owner as having some elaborate motive behind lying about jay's vote rather than the occam's razor explanation that she made a legitimate mistake (and a fairly understandable one, except for the unlikelihood that jay would change a vote without posting).

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand the point you're trying to make. nova has 0 posts in the game, regardless of phase. lapluie has one post in the game, regardless of phase. I have no basis on which to read nova at all, and as such I followed the math. I have one post on which to read lap, and it's at least mildly icky (as is the implied awareness of the game following from that post without having returned).
If they're scum they would have more urge to not be modblocked so they can use their abilities Image D0 has no effect on that, D1 is. I don't get how you read Lap as bad due to you viewing her 1 post on D0 as she did it because she urged to.
Anyone find this productive?

Moreso that I got the impression from their exchange that it would have been better/more productive if they stopped a few posts ahead. Seemed too drawn out to me, like they were talking each other in circles and not through the points they wanted to make.
Sure, I guess. I think it was worth her pointing out the rules distinction to Jay, though perhaps he should have realized it earlier, especially considering the host made a specific post about it in addition to the rules...

1. In Firefly Mafia, Owner scum read me in part based on a "Picture Tell" in which she said I subconciously associated with Negan and Thanos, two bad characters. Therefore I must be bad.

2. In this game, Owner scum read Kara based on a picture tell of Kara posting a Hagrid-themed comic strip. Hagrid is a good guy.

My point being, if in Firefly Owner (civ) Genuinely suspected me (civ) for being Negan/Thanos (bad dudes) that's fine because as wrong as it was, it tracks and makes sense if you accept the "Picture Tell" premise. If you accept that same premise and apply it to her Kara suspicion, its fake. She fabricated a reason to suspect Kara and the only reason to do that is if you're bad and need people to suspect.

Slam. Dunk.
Was that Picture Tell based on the characters being good or bad? If so I’d say, add this to the pile for reasons why an Owner lynch is a good proposition.
I really think DH is stretching it. Owner just thought Kara looked sketchy for posting a jokey comic instead of real content. I don't think it's comparable to the negan=bad thing. Maybe I'm wrong but I townread owner for multiple reasons so I don't see this as unreasonable.

Which Owner thing?
Yun Qui Tell = Prioritizing game mechanics (House Cup/Ship Crew) over baddie hunting. TH used the Yun Qui's trust of him to prevent his lynch and nobody in the Yun Qui wanted to lynch him or mutiny despite me multiple times calling him out. Luna has prioritized House Cup Mechanics at least twice in this game, something DDL worried about happening.
"Odd Choice" Tell - Literally just quoted an example of TH using the phrase when he was bad.

Which reasons do you suspect Bullz is bad for?
"His vote looks sketchy" and "his posts look sketchy" "he hasn't done anything close to actual gameplay" = These are good reasons and I like them an thank you for sharing them

In this picture, Hagrid is acting selfish/not caring about others.

Even though Hagrid as a character is seen as good, that does not account for the picture I'm directing you to, where it seems as though Hagrid is betraying his students.

Looking at the comic again, sure. It's pretty dark, and kara even implied later (jokingly or seriously I can't say) that they felt it was more about the Monster Book of Monsters than about Hagrid.

Not taking them seriously is fine. I don't think they were meant to be taken seriously. I don't think that matters for Owner's reasoning. I think that the way she has explained the picture tell, it takes into account that the images are generally in jest.

This thing was gross. Of all the things he could have commented on for his first substantial post of the game, why that? Lame.

This is obviously a good idea, right? Any objections?

I am town.
No, that's an awful waste of a 1-shot ability to tell the truth, just to get the same info as a regular ability (Divination). But because you've started this, I also have to say

I am a town.

Or else I'd look scum by not following along with it.
I'm catching up atm, but wanted to point out what could be a really weak attempt at following the I am town charge, but with a "typo" that invalidates it. I don't know this player, so I don't know if they would try something so clumsy as a baddie. But that extra word in their ld statement is noteworthy for a day 1.

Also, I am town.
This is fine I guess, I had the same reaction myself when I saw kara's post.

speedchuck wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 12:23 pm Kind of a pointless exercise anyway, for a couple of reasons.

1. Cop checks already exist.
2. If enough players say "I am town", the one-shot ability will be devalued to a cop check (if used in that way).

The above being stated, all that saying "I am town" does is give the person who said it towny points, regardless of alignment. There is little risk involved, especially if multiple people say it.

It might even be a scum gambit to be one of the first people doing it. "He suggested the thing, surely he wouldn't condemn himself."

Yeah. I was a participant for a bit, but I'm ignoring it.

linki: some neat ideas. I like them.
Also this was to be my next point. The I am town exercise tend to never pay the dividends it seems like it should. But here we are anyway lol.

Also I'm liking DH and Epig so far today, I'm neutral on juliets. None will getmy vote today barring a slip etc.
Notable that he includes juliets in his list of people not getting his vote even though he is "neutral" on her. :ponder:

timmer wrote: Mon Oct 29, 2018 12:52 pm Okay, so reading owner's iso, I'd say he really and oddly blindered onto DH very early, and for what seems like entirely prev-game reasons. This allows him to talk a lot about suspicions towards sh, but without having to defend anything he says because, hey, is based on last game. And when pressed about it, he just versions of iunno I just feel it...

This can be a baddie move, but it can also just be blindering which ive done in the past. Those who know owner well, do you get any kind of alignment read from this angle?
Sadly, I can read this post both ways. Slight town maybe if I try to not be paranoid. I guess I'm debating if you would question others about how to read me or if you would just come to a conclusion yourself.
Well I guess the real question is, what would someone who has barely played for years do in trying to read a player he doesn't know, but ask about them? And beyond that, where would an alignment tell be? Which brings me back to you talking a whole lot but really saying nothing much at all...
I don't know what I'm supposed to get out of this exchange.
timmer wrote: Tue Oct 30, 2018 4:08 pm Ugh, bullzeye whiffs on trying to comment on the trains and votes a missing player?
He is the first to call out bullzeye. Ok.
timmer wrote: Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:21 pm I've only got a second, but a quick skim tells that Bullzeye may be getting set up for a lazy day 1 vote. I'll be able to properly catch up tonight, but for now, that's a development I'll be studying .
But then he says this. Timmer do you not want to lynch bullzeye despite implying that you found his d1 behavior suspect?

Awko taco.

He already has a vote and I don't have any reason to think he's town, and I don't want to lynch any of the other current candidates (although of the people who have at least one vote I could also look into Luna more, I'm fairly neutral on her but somewhat more of a slight town lean than mac)

this post sounds.... not fake per se but kind of like an obligatory "yep let me see, oh yes kara is the other person I suspect for laying low" and then that's it. that's all she wrote. Luna has thoughts on two players in the game right now. Great

Long Con wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 10:24 am I'm working today, soon, until too close to the lynch. There are a few cases I'd like to reread, the Soneji one looks all right, but it didn't blow my skirt up on the first read. I think Bullzeye is off the table now with a strong vote of confidence from Timmer. Is that something folks agree with? He said 'no cop' but who really knows, that's just what a cop would say. :hahah:

I'm going to leave my vote on Lunalee for now, although I could put it on kara if it came down to it. I'll try to be here before it comes down to it, to ensure I have my vote on a player that is relevant come lynch end. Maybe even get another crack at a Deathly Hallows, who knows?

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 2

Ehh I just looked at Luna's iso and could still read her either way. A lot of her hunting looks genuine but her back and forth on owner smells a bit funny and today she basically just echoed Jay re: inh.

Looking into Mac next, which won't take long as his iso is uncharacteristically short, which is already a strike against him imo.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 2

Lots of short snappy snarky posts in true MacDougall fashion, but a lot of them don't sit right/feel natural in the way that a carefree balls-to-the-wall civ Mac does. It may be that I went in with a bias, but I feel like he could be trying too hard to imitate his town style. Like the fake "these five players are mafia" thing that was a highly unlikely list which he then analyzed reactions to. Even his reactions to the reactions looked fabricated imo. He's hardly given any real suspicions, certainly no explanations of them. Maybe I'm crazy, but maybe Mac is bad.
