Playing in person is pretty scary because you need to be really convincing, but it's always lots of fun too. I heard these games can go on for weeks or months, is that true? I'm used to games that last maybe 30 minutes at most so I'm curious to see what the dynamic here is. I guess someone doesn't have to die every single night?
Hello Dana. Welcome to The Syndicate. I agree with you that real life games are more intense, but I will say that the breed of players on this site will ensure that the intensity factor is not diminished much.

As for timing, that depends on the game:

A "Full game" has 48 hour Day phases (for discussion and voting) and 24 hour Night phases (for Night actions and kills).

A "Speed game" has 24 hour Day phases and 24 hour Night phases.

Thus, the typical time for a Full game is a month to two months, while a Speed game lasts a couple of weeks.

What online games have over real life games is BTSC. In real life, you merely know your accomplices (if you are bad). In online games, you are afforded time to plot and communicate. It's very fun, and we are home to a host (no pun intended) of Hosts who are highly creative and eager to please their players.

Let me know if you have further questions.
I wish there was a sort of "Beginners' Guide to Hosting on the Syndicate" for people to refer to. That would be really nice.
Oh shut up.

You should see a doctor.
Canucklehead wrote: > I am a professional dancer/choreographer, but am currently on an artist hiatus while I work on my PhD in 16th and 17th century English literature at a big ol' University who inexplicably pays me money to sit around and read poems. Both these career paths are evidence that I am a very practical person who likes to spend great gobs of my life pursuing super practical real world things that are going to make me very very rich and allow me to buy a McMansion in the suburbs and a designer dog.
So you are "working" to be a doctor who can't help with maple-syrup heart malfunctions. I see.
Canucklehead wrote:> I like pickles
I have a whole JAR of pickles you can have for a fraction of your McMansion.
Canucklehead wrote:> I currently live in a bizarro land called "the American South" where no one likes hockey and they make you pay to go to the doctor and dill pickle chips have only recently become a thing. Whaaaaaaaaa?? Where the hell am I?
People are more interested in their local hockey teams.

Canadians pay to go to their physicians, just like everybody else in the entire world. But you're training to be a doctor who studies poetry, so I can see why nobody wants to pay for healthcare in Canada.

Dill pickle chips have been around here as long as I can remember.

Would you like a glass of sweet tea. sug?

That makes sense, really, since the good news involves bacon.

You'll probably win then. A lot of people here sign up but don't "play mafia."

Matches are usually one on one. It's your warrior against another member's warrior. Winner gets gold and experience. Loser just gets experience...if he lives.

I use dice and/or random number generators to determine hits and misses. I never play- I just run the game.

Once I sort out a few things, I'll post the rules and create the various "places" where the action happens.

It's a game I designed (and am still designing) that makes you a ruthless, money-grubbing person with no regard for human life. You buy warriors, buy equipment, and send them to fight other players' warriors. The game is tied to your schedule- no hurries, no worries.

Re: So Do You Come Here Often?~ Intro's etc.

Great to see some familiar names. Looking forward to some mafia action and hosting the Gladiatorial arena.

Epi = "toward"
Gnosis = "knowledge"

Also, I do this a lot. :wine:

And this. :disappoint:
