The power went out.

Thunder rumbled in the distance.

Dante weighed what he was about to say carefully, and said, "Martha, I've always been hard for you."

"Now what's so damn funny?" Dante asked.

Dante said, "I know this must be hard for you."

"What do you want me to say, Martha?"

The weather had become restless and unwelcoming.

An awkward silence followed.

He took a quick swig and gasped at the burning sensation the vodka left in his mouth.

He studied the label.

The place reeked of sterility.

The rain delayed no longer.

The mother nodded.

"I heard you, Nadine, because I'm not deaf- are you so blind that you can't see I'm through?"

Peter's brother said nothing, but only crept down the ladder.

Peter's brother had finally finished repairing the roof.
