Re: [NIGHT 4] Bioshock Mafia

Whilst it pains me ever so dearly to see we've lost a valued role, I cannot think of another possible way this could have ended. I think boo was his own undoing, unfortunately. His belligerence and arrogance made it impossible for me to see him as a civvie. And he seemed determined to have things come down to "I die or DH dies." And unfortunately for him, I value my life infinitely more than I do his. Although I will say that I mourn his passing in equal measure as I celebrate my own continued survival.

Re: [DAY 4] Bioshock Mafia

@Epig - If I had to vote between bea or Boat's I would pick bea. Again I'm hung up on how big yet empty her posts are. It feels to me that she is putting on the face of someone who is into discussion and participating, but not actually doing that. I could be wrong and it's definitely not enough to sway me right now, but you put a gun to my head so there you go.

@MP Would you kindly end the contest*

I don't know what to think about this Ace/Boo revelation. On the one hand ID necessarily GAF what Aces gut is telling him because my gut is telling me the opposite. And things have backed up my gut. On the other hand, if I'm wrong about boo I'll feel pretty dumb. Though I won't feel all that bad as, as I said, he seems to be in a mode that can best be described as "me or him" so, I'll pick him every time. Boats (and other non voters) being slammed by MP is something I've considered and is a good point in favor of letting nature take its course on that front. Though in GOB's case, he seems to be catching the votes and just not posting, so that might be something to address ourselves rather than let MP handle it behind the scenes.

My personal opinion is that boo was lying his ass off. The specifics of what he's said (and how he presented himself) doesn't add up if what he were saying is actually true. It's primarily AceofSpaces reaction that stays my hand- that, and the fact that we have no shortage of others worth lynching.

The takeaway from this, I guess, is if boo is your #1 suspect and you're not buying what he's selling, then by all means, vote for him. I'm just a little nervous is all. :)

51
Ok, well I fully agree that boo was lying his ass off, and so I'm glad I voted him. I don't know what to make of Aces suddenly defending him, especially after they went at each other Day 1. In light of this, contrary to what I said before, I will now give Aces a very hard look if boo does flip bad. It's possible the Day 1 thing was staged. Wanna hear more thoughts regarding others? Ask me! Hint: I'm trying to up my post count.

6

:haha:

Ah, I didn't notice you had already voted. Sorry!

Your theory about AceofSpaces and boo staging their animosity (and therefore this outlandish episode) did cross my mind. The reason I dismissed it is that AceofSpaces came very close to being lynched on Day 2, and boo voted for him. That makes it very hard for me to believe that the Ace vs boo Day 1 wasn't genuine.

52
That's a very good point. In that case, I don't know what to make of Aces either way yet. Have you noticed that Ajira is signed on? I don't recall seeing any posts from him for a while. I wonder if he'll contribute any thoughts?

Boomslang wrote:Well, Boat's catching up was a slip that he has BTSC with someone, not necessarily that he's bad. What people should really be considering is how many civs have BTSC vs. how many baddies have BTSC. Based on my reading of the rules, Ryan and Sullivan have some communication with each other, the Fontaine crew has full BTSC, and Cohen has BTSC with Jack at a certain point that I don't think we've reached yet. I'm sure there are secrets, but these are the main communications. Dr. Suchong is already down, so the odds seem more half and half that Boat's BTSC is bad.
Epignosis, Aces, did you guys remember bea's asking about who made civ BTSC comments? Well, I certainly did and looked back to see the source of it as I also remembered reading that in my catch up. Some things I would like to point out to folks such as but not limited to Epignosis, Aces, Bullz, nutella, you get the idea etc etc:

1) Ryan does not have BTSC with Sullivan. Ryan sends Sullivan a name to kill through the hosts on even nights.

2) Fontaines Crew are mafia. Or at least as close to mafia as can be interpreted, given their propensity for killing, their btsc, and their win conditions. And the whole thing with everyone being super stoked Suchong was lynched.

3. Cohen is more indy than civvie, given that he has the posibility of going...well...indy. And Jack is in Fontaine's Crew, refer to number 2.

Anyway I think the bigger point here is that any btsc that is not directly related to a team of killers is either temporary or non existant, nothing that could certainly have occured quickly enough for boat's catch up to be excused as civ btsc.

I am amused that boo's new thing is "If I can get lynched and that leads to DH getting lynched then hurray!". Because if boo's goal is for me to lose, then beating him will carry with it some great satisfaction whether he turns up bad or not. Having offered no legitimate defense, I can assume that he probably will turn up bad. :yay:

Had he made any effort to defend himself I would probably think differently (As Bullz and Nev have) but this just screams arrogance, and I cannot abide arrogance.

Boo is acting a fool and is suspected (at least by me) once more due to his posts here and here

I explain in more detail why those posts are suspicious here and here and in some other places as well but I wanna hit as much as possible as quickly as possible.

People are finding boats suspicious for this reason

beas post here has some people thinking she was insincere. As well as her general "confused tee hee" vibe.

Alot of silent players/wacky players are coming under fire for being silent or wacky (INH, Vomps, Dex,)

People are pretty sure Epignosis is a nub,

I'm not confident about nutella based on this exchange But not enough to put a vote out.
Trying very hard to see if I missed anything. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Alot of the bullz stuff is in that first link case, and in the discussion shortly thereafter.

47
My top suspect is definitely boo, and in fact that's where my vote is going today.

votes boo

I don't like role hinting as a rule, because I think it's against the spirit of the game, and I especially don't like threats disguised as role hints. Boo's response also seems pretty over-the-top considering he was one of a fairly large number of suspects.

If he's evil will it make others feel better about Aces? I think I would, based on their interesting Day 1 interaction (the one that drew a lot of votes for Aces on Day 2, where Aces didn't explain his boo vote and then boo revenge-voted him).

Boats is probably my #2 right now because of how fast he caught up. I know from personal experience that's not possible, and it may have been a slip.

bea's vote looks bad, but I haven't gotten the insincere vibe from her that others have. I'll keep an eye on her, but she's fairly far behind my top 2 for now.

I don't think Epi's a nub. I think llama's lynch shows us that his method for finding baddies isn't perfect (and is, perhaps, a cautionary tale against tunnel vision), but whose is perfect? I think so far he's done a great job of baddie sniffing. (1 of 2 is great in a game with, what 24 civs and 12 non-civs?)

I'll need to reread Bullz and nutella tomorrow. DH too, although that's a book at this point, since I think Epi mentioned he was being suspected. Those are my main thoughts for now, I guess.

Oh! And I'm totally up in the air about Dex now. I was leaning bad on him, but I'm less sure since better suspects are emerging. I think I said before, we'd have been pretty lucky to have 2 of our 3 top vote-getters be bad on Day 2. However, I think the following is a brilliant explanation of why wacky players are harmful no matter what their alignment. I've actually gotten a lot less wackiness from Vomps than usual this game, but it applies to Dex and a few others, I think.
DharmaHelper wrote: I just want to address the whole Vomps thing for a minute, Snow. I've seen alot of players who develop similar "wacky" personas that people can use to excuse otherwise baddie behavior. They do dumb stuff because they know they can get away with it. I can name a few people off the top of my head who do this and to be quite honest, as the game progresses, that behavior becomes less and less tolerable. I know we're playing a game, but we're also trying to compete when it comes down to it. And when we have people who are not competing, contributing, etc, or who are acting wacky for the sake of acting wacky, it lessens our chances of competing successfully. Because either A) Their acting wacky, catch flak, and are civ or B) Their acting wacky, get excused, and are bad.

30
2
I'm not done catching up, but I wanted to answer your question Russ. If boo is evil, I think it may make me feel better about Aces, yes. Though it will only really make me feel a little better, because there is another set of baddies to watch out for depending on where boo falls. And IDK off the top of my head if Aces helped to lynch BWT (I think he revenge voted boo?), but if boo flips bad, taking a look at Aces to MAKE SURE he's cleared is something I'd do.

Thanks for pointing this out. bea tied it up, and then DFaraday sealed bird's fate immediately after her vote.

31
Bea's vote on D3 was after it was *really* obvious who was getting lynched - I don't think who she voted for at that point has any real implications about her role. I actually suspect her a little *more* (just a little) for not voting for llama at that point; once it's clear a civ is going down, baddies are more likely to vote elsewhere, to gain a little deniability without impacting the game at all.

16
I suppose I was taking the more direct, "obvious" route in my analysis, but that makes a lot of sense too. Casting a potentially bad guy-saving vote so late is rather damning, and then voting for someone who couldn't possibly be lynched does seem like something a bad guy would do. Here is bea's post:
bea wrote:At work and on my phone. All the llama votes are making me nervious. I still don't get baddie vibes from him though. DB's long post is pretty well put together. I shall follow him and go with bulls.
She just went along with DH (I assume that's who DB is).

So I take it you are most in favor of lynching bea?

32
DF, Epi, Snow Dog et al:

I think I've about exhausted my analysis for this lynch. I don't know what my schedule will be like tomorrow, so I am going to be brave and go ahead and vote. I'll scan and definitely look for if anyone asks me a question, etc., but at this point I really need to spend some time at the gym and doing much-neglected housework. See you guys on the flipside

* votes Boo *

also:

041.
That make three votes cast. There are none for Bullz and none for Boats and none for bea.

Also, it's interesting that Boomslang has been exempt from the B discussion. Dex actually called him bad.

That or they're hiding behind the contest. Either way, If I could address them I'd assure them that the contest is not a scary monster. Anyone who has any thoughts should contribute them regardless of the contest.

Nutella - That seems like a solid theory. One thing I want to point out is Suchong died rather early, so he can't have made that many dangerous plasmids. Although regardless of the amount of plasmids it looks like Fontaine will be a very dangerous killer anyway..

Re: [DAY 4] Bioshock Mafia

Mongoose, to respond again to your question about my confidence in the boo vote and the tunnel vision I might have, I just noticed something reading what Boomslang just quoted. Did you see where boo says his lynch "will set the civvies back...from where YOU currently sit at". Language like that, that seperates one from being within the civvies, unnerves me. I think if boo was civ he would have made at least some effort to defend himself, but I also think if he was civvie he would have said "us" and "we", if that makes sense. He doesn't count himself amongst the civvies in his defense.

@Mongoose

I feel like I have all my ducks in a row with boo. So if in fact I am wrong, it's not without having done my due diligence, and boo's behavior has done him no favors. In response to I think Snow who asked when the Dex vote was, I am refering to the Day 2 Dex vote, because as some people pointed out Dex/Aces/BWT were close in numbers for a bit. Maybe not tied, but certainly close enough.

I'm with you on the latter, but I don't think most baddie teams would gamble to that degree. In fact, if it were my team, one of us would have tried to save, and the other would have been among the most strident accusers (but not me!), trying to build sufficient credit to make it alone if the save fails. On the other hand, if we get one of them, the odds of finding another in the remaining two still seem high enough that I'd give that a shot with you. Better than guessing, for sure.

One thing I'd like to do is pursue the Dex voters analysis. Unfortunately the nature of the contest and my nature of wanting to win the damn thing will cheapen whatever I put out at this point so I'd rather wait to do that. On the other hand, if someone else wants to put something like that out, I'd love to give it a look see.

37.
I think for a lot of us, the Dex vote was a "flying by the seat of your pants" vote. It was before the BBB saga had really gotten underway. I know I was torn between Lizzy and Dex at that time. It's not like we had nothing to go on, but it was the only option for a real ping (in my case anywa).

029.
Well the only reason I feel the Dex voters need a looking at is I want to give everyone a fair shake. I don't like when I get tunnel vision and it ends up lynching civs. I suppose it comes down to that thing I mentioned earlier about the confidence I have in my game.

DharmaHelper- there is so little "evidence" because it is Day 4 and BoatsBoatsBoats has posted a grand total of seven times. His third one smells funny to me:

http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/viewto ... 735#p23735

20

I agree with this. Boats only has a few posts, and pretty much all of them ping me in some way or another. Another point worth mentioning is his self-vote, which I know was discussed as a wifom/risky thing to do, but combined with the rest of his oddness only makes him look worse IMO.

I'm still not sure what to think about Boo. DH may be right to think it's BS. But I'm also still looking a bit at Bullzeye:
Bullzeye wrote: I still think Boats is suspcious but I'm pretty much the reverse of where you're at. I'd like to see Boo or Bea lynched today in the hope that one of them is BWT's teammate.
This just rubs me the wrong way. He wants to lynch either Boo or Bea even though he is basically in the same boat as them, "in hopes that" one of them is BWT's teammate -- seems like he wants to discredit the possibility that he's BWT's teammate. :eye:

11.
I know I'm not BWT's teammate, hence why I didn't put myself as a possibility. I'm not seriously going to suggest you lynch me even if I was a baddie, am I? I think if we lynch one of those two and find them to be BWT's teammate the other is unlikely to be as I don't personally think his whole team voted the same way, it's too much of a risk for them.

22
I think it's more about the perception of other players on why you could be in the same theoretical boat as Boo and Bea. While it would be a big risk for BWT's team to all vote the same way, it might be an ingenious tactic for them to do so. Do something so blatantly pingy that we literally wouldn't believe they would do it.

028.

Epig you make a great point about Boat's post count. I am, if its not totally obvious by now, of the mind that participation and contribution are paramount, with a few very specific exceptions. If we saw more from Boats I would be more than happy to swing one way or the other.

I'm looking at boats and boo today.

Even after re-reading all the Boo and Boat posts earlier, I have once again mixed them up and have just re-read through all that mess for a third time. I gotta start eating carbs. Anyway, I am leaning towards Boats at this point. But any compelling arguments for Boo could sway me. The Lizzy death really threw me too, so I am now focusing on the B's.

023.
You don't see my case against boo as compelling? I'm offended! On a serious note, his defense seems to have gone from "Nope not defending myself" to "Fuck you lol lynch me IDK eat a dong". Neither are very civvie ways to play and one is a very rude way to play. Boats may be bad but I feel my case on boo is strong, and I feel his recent posts have been worthy of a slap in the face :P vote boo
Don't be so funny - I work in a library! I did literally LOL at your fake Boo Radley quote. I do find it compelling, I just felt more drawn toward Boats this time. I will definitely focus on the other Bs next time for sure. Maybe Boats and Boo Radley are both ones to vote for.

025.
I could see the Boats thing if there was something other than "He sped through that read up and seems to have a grasp on things, must be btsc". Also, the source of the Boats suspicion is nutella I think (she was the first to point out how Boats may have BTSC right?), and I'm not getting groovy vibes from her atm based on her Epig comment and subsequent explanation. I can see a scenario wherein Boats is bad and everything, but One piece of evidence is just not enough at this stage of the game to make me vote that way. Also having prepared this post as a response to you, I noticed Vomp say he'd have to go back and reread stuff involved in the event in order to address my question about who pinned him and Lizzy as teammates. I don't think that's the case. If Vomp posted "people think Lizzy and I were civ teammates" then surely he has an idea of which people said that.

I wholeheartedly agree and furthermore wish to point out that I was and hopefully still am strongly suspected as Lizzy's (civ) teammate. :srsnod:
Again, the person that capped Lizzy was a civvie, so in actuality, someone had enough confidence in her baddieness to pull the trigger without a lynch. I disagree with that Splicer's decision, but what're ya gonna do ya know? Also, I don't suspect you as Lizzy's teammate civ or otherwise. Can you point out where/who thought this? That timeline actually hadn't occurred to me, and it does make sense.
Your second point is just silly though, the impact of that kind of shenanigan is really low,
and vomps is like that normally.

10
Yes you maybe right about Vomps. Not totally into him being bad. But if I was bad it might be something I would do. get a possible civ kill or penalty with very little effort. It is worth bearing in mind at the very least alongside other evidence.

10
I just want to address the whole Vomps thing for a minute, Snow. Because either A) Their acting wacky, catch flak, and are civ or B) Their acting wacky, get excused, and are bad.

here we go. Okay so they've each only had one night for the opportunity to find someone, so it's quite likely their votes still don't count.
Even if they were both successful, their votes would only be worth one by this point (and I agree that's unlikely). A self-vote could be an indication that the vote is worthless. However, would their teammates think self-voting (and the scrutiny it would bring) be a good strategy?

7
Maybe the other teammate(s) aren't necessarily veteran players, and maybe wouldn't think that a self-vote would tip us off.

@ Dharma - Interesting thoughts on the selfishness of self-voting. I think we will all be scrutinizing such behavior even more from now on.

@ Epi - I'm back at a computer, so let's roll!

015.
Quoting Mongoose here but I'd like to address Epig and Mongoose.

First off, yes Mongoose, as I said I only self vote for selfish reasons usually. Mostly for prizes or for goofing around when I think or know I am not in any real danger. Though as Epig rightly pointed out, Self-voting is something that deprives us of a good deal of discussion, context, etc. And this late into the game I just can't fathom voting for oneself and being a civvie.

And @Epig - I'm not talking all that much anymore cuz I'm watching a podcast, and also I think I've taken up a good amount of everyone's time already. I'd like to give others the chance to blossom.
