Re: [DAY 1] The Syndicate's 2013 Game of Champions

SVS, what do you make of Lizzy? I'm curious given the circumstances from Shawshank. :p I was very wrong about her too. This is something I could see Shawshank Lizzy doing, so I don't know what to make of it.

I doubt MP said that about using him as an example.

This whole thing is a lie wrapped in a lie.

DH, who are you looking at?

What would you like to talk about, DH?
I was slightly pinged by JC's inquiry into FH's data. It's not as though it was a surprise that FH was going to post that data, nor does it really have any effect or repercussions. It's just something nice to have for the minute. Yet JC seemed overtly curious about it.

The easiest comparison I could make at the time was LT's reaction to my big mondo post in AG mafia. She was bad. Also, Dom responded similarly and I think he was bad in AG as well.
question
Does AG mean American Gods or Avant Garde?

FH, I don't know what to make of your data, but I noticed that you forgot to include Zodac as an independent/neutral in the MOTU row. :)

LINKI: FH, I believe people are referring to the role "Media".

I do not agree about spreading the vote, particularly this early. I think spreading the vote to flush out minions (I think that was the purpose, can't remember off the top of my head) is flawed in a couple ways. First, if we spread the vote out it's easy for mafia to hide or manipulate the lynch. Second, there is no way to differentiate if we successfully spread the vote out to a minion or if there are just no minions or if a minion didn't get a kill PM in or if a minion was blocked. Too many variables for me to want to fuck with it.

Lemme see lemme see, anything else?

I will be watching the nubs that are all "prolly gonna randomize/vote for myself/vote for someone for a generic boring reason" because come on son, this is the game of champions, vote like a champion and do some sleuthin'.
I think the purpose was to just stop the minion's kill... but I see this being a liability, as you seem to as well.

Good question. Will it would admittedly help foil Bob's minions, I have never been a fan of splitting the vote. It makes manipulation too easy for baddies. Of course, complete unanimity is not desirable iether, since you don't get much information from those votes, but I like to see a four or five vote margin for the lynchee when possible.
Exactly. I don't think just giving people votes willy-nilly is a winning strategy. I didn't play a lot of these games and haven't looked at the roles very closely yet, but there could be lynch switches, vote plus/minus, etc. Lots of votes everywhere only makes it easy for baddies to hide behind someone else's vote.

Even the task of scraping N different forums for data is a fairly complex one that one wouldn't just *do*.
That's why I asked for code and a list of libraries.

Challenge: if you have already scraped all that data into a db or files of some kind, it would be *trivial* for you to answer this question:
What are the top 20 words I've used in all threads on both boards I have played on under this name with length greater than 6?
Wouldn't his libraries just be the sites that mafia is played on? I have no idea about this field so I'm guessing not, but it seems like the simple answer. I'd also like to know how he means to use The Piano as a source when it was shut down months ago and doesn't exist any more.
I scanned the website before it went down.
You "scanned" it?
What exactly does that mean?
You mean you downloaded the entirety of the ThePiano Board? If so, please tell LC. He was very sad to see TP go. He would probably like to have that data.
Too bad you're lying :p
You're also talking about games that some of us played 4-6 years ago. My first game was 4 years ago. I was 15 years old. Do you really think that I am the same person as I was 4 years ago?
I see many flaws, and I see many inaccuracies. As a math major, I don't see how this could be considered reliable. I also don't really believe you on it because I doubt you have the entirety of the piano saved to your hard drive, plus RM, plus Prog, plus LP (that would be a doozy), plus TS, etc.
INH, what is your motivator here?

That would be tragic for the civ team of course. Clearly he's being civic-minded.
No, then the baddies could remake it, find out what their tells are, and avoid those words or phrases, making the Program irrelevant.
Isn't the program already irrelevant if you told us about it at all? What if some people get nervous and screw up their civvie posting style? What if some people get nervous on the baddies, and they don't post normally either?
If this program really exists, have fun with it.

Hedge, do you think spreading the votes is a long term strategy for the civvies to win the game?

Well obviously I haven't been around recently to see the trending stuff like this, but I just had a thought- is it possible that maybe the poll will be good for people with roles from that particular game? IE if Masters of the Universe won and your character is from that game you get some sort of benefit? I'd be interested in seeing the spread of our cast of characters, maybe that would be a task for our awesome FH? Like is there one good and one bad from each game, or is it not that even - I don't have the time to investigate and find out, but it might be worth looking into. :ponder:
That's certainly a thought!
TBH, it'll likely be hard to determine anything from the poll, given the structure of MP games. :p

insertnamehere wrote: Sherlock had it's fair share of problems, but it was a great proof of concept for that certain type of game. Sherlock also has maybe my favorite moment in a game, when Lizzy wrote a list stating everyone's roles, and she was right on all of them.
Awwwww! :hugs: And I was under the impression that you hated my guts for that. :p Even though that's the 'Lizzy list', I did not compile it on my own, but with Matt AP, as a result of info AND lots of deduction because it was Sherlock k. We decided that I should be the one to make it public because my chances of advancing into the game at that point were diminishing significantly, but he still had a chance since he was part of Team Super Alliance as well. :p So yus! Sherlock is my best performance even though I didn't win and it's also my favourite game and concept for a mafia game thus far. Oh and one of my favourite moments was also from Sherlock when Vomps, who had a fab game, said something like 'I'm getting strong civvie vibes from No.6' and everyone jumped on No.6 thinking it was Vomps, but Matt F (I think) got lynched instead. :haha: And a shout out to Thomas and AG and my BTSC buddies! :hugs:

My worst was Meat Boy easily! Now I proudly added Shawshank to the list! :p
OMG I forgot Dom has been reader as the SK twice.

I had played in person a few times in college and I played a time or two on ProgArchives.

You had a powerful ability Dom. I looked it up a few hours ago. You could potentially role block everybody but us. :haha:
I remember that now! I couldn't remember my role, because I thought of myself as the Red Eyeball and that wasn't a role name :p I saw Mr. Skull and kept reading through the roles for Red Eyeball. heh.

Re: [DAY 0] The Syndicate's 2013 Game of Champions

Epignosis wrote:I wish I could say my best venture was in Bioshock, where as a Big Daddy, I wound up recruited by a civilian. Like a dumbass, I told my entire team this fact. Realizing my stupidity, I said that I had PMed the host and that I would rejoin the team in Point Prometheus. And then I helped wipe out nearly my entire team in one Night. And then I got recruited again. I think I would have made it to the end had I not been traveling and wound up having to vote early in a fucking McDonald's. I chose poorly and got lynched that day.

So my best performance was my first here on The Syndicate. In Avant 2 I was The Sinister Exaggerator. I increased my team's voting power and mimicked MP's writing style to have my falsehoods presented seamlessly in the Host posts.

In sum, I lied, lied, lied my way to victory.

But don't worry.

You can trust me this time. :feb:
We had so much fun in AG2!!!
blindfaeth wrote:Hi everyone! So glad to be back for a game :) I'll try to be as present as I can be. The good news is, the syndicate is not blocked at work! :lorab:

I'm going to say that my best performance definitely had to be Masters of the Universe. I'm not even sure if I won that game, but I remember kicking butt. I got BTSC with lots of civvies and kept winning the host contests - most people acknowledged I was a civvie and I survived quite a while.

I specifically remember that I actually didn't do so hot in two of my wins, SGT Pepper & Minecraft - both times, I trusted the wrong people and thats probably why they kept me around long enough to let me win.

Well, I see some new faces so nice to meet you - my name's BF!
I am so happy to see you back, BF! :)

Also, my best performance?
I am torn between American Gods and Avant Garde 2. I may have lost American Gods, but I certainly did better than I expected to. I think the way I had to think my kills was pretty good. I certainly tried my best, but the civvies did not allow me to win. :p Damn Cult!
However, I did win, Avant Garde 2. Epig, Timmer, and myself won after a long battle. It was so much fun working with them, and it was one of my favorite BTSC experiences I've had to date. I don't remember my power, but I know we plotted and brooded for eons. And the way we lynched Rey was pretty awesome. I would not have won without my team. Plus, BWT was such a great recruit, and there was Bea and CBK!

I'll go with Avant Garde 2. Just because of the BTSC plotting that happened.
