Don't worry, apparently I have a gift at uncovering everyone's identities behind socks. I've always been good at it. Daisy was trying her absolute hardest to fool me, but I could tell with 99% certainty that it was her within her first two posts. She did make me doubt myself a bit for a while there, but thereafter I could just tell. It was similar with many others. Don't ask me why.

I did create a spreadsheet to track all of my sockpuppet guesses and obsessively spent hours over figuring everyone out, so maybe that's why. :P

Someone - Pilate perhaps? Had speculated you might not be a civilian the day before. But I thought you were doing so well the heathen really were bound to kill you that night. So I kept my trap shut. If you'd survived that night, I was intending to come out suggesting Stephen might be bad, and his instincts seemed a little too good...

That's funny because my instincts are usually terrible. I've actually played a few good civilian games lately, even in this where I wasn't a civilian. It's been great! I hope I can keep it up. :P

As for this, I was hoping Russ would make to the Death Note postgame, but I suppose with RL he never did. Re: Biblical Mafia [ENDGAME]

FZ., you played well. I could tell it was you right away and that you were trying to shake up your game a bit, so that's why I fed off of you at the beginning there, haha, that was fun. Especially as a fellow high poster who gets frequently eyeballed, I could tell you were having as much fun as I was with the fake identity. :P

It's also why I suddenly came out of nowhere and defended you hard, as Stephen, since I knew it was you and it seemed like your very genuine civilian-like defense, but then I got a bit paranoid at the end. I did the same thing with Isaac/Devin, since the two of you seemed to play your civilian games to a T, but I still had a little bit of doubt in the back of my mind every once in a while.

Re: Biblical Mafia [ENDGAME]

Ricochet wrote:Sooooo:

1. Here is, again, my list of projections for the identities behind the socks. I kept doing it until I got lynched or so. I just threw in every hunch for every player, as soon I had a signal, that's why there are multiple guesses in front of most. Amusing that a few player I assumed would join this game never did (BWT, Boo, Made, Enrique, Mongoose, Unfurl, Zeek).

I probably should have written down a few reasons for my hunches as well (other than the obvious slips or trademarks), because I don't remember said reasons anymore now: mostly related to their gameplay (writing style, read style, use of emoticons, etc.), though.

Not quite MP-level, but 11 good picks out of 33 ain't too shabby either.

2. Instead of my "Death-Note method" of transcribing each players' activity, I did a generic table this time with each players' read on everyone else. I'm not too happy with the method, however, because it didn't help much to rely just on that - case in point, having to go back on Day 8 and do those massive re-reads on everybody alive (which I also saved in writing at that time, below each table). Here's just a sample.

3. Here's some even crazier and pointless stuff, though. Whilst the game was in sign-ups, I started keeping track of players' activity in the forum (whether visible or hidden, when logged in), in hopes that their sockplay would then either match or completely contrast. The darker the color, the more frequent the respective player (or sock) was present in that particular hour. Of course, it didn't lead to anything and I didn't keep track of the sock activity for much time, after the game started, in order not to lose all the sanity I had left. Some players really do have patterns of activity, though.

I never counted the fact that XthGamer, Leggy, Heiots or DREAM might join, so that's why they only show up in the *newbies* row.

4. Usual theory tidbits on role and sock identities. Decent enough.

5. Votes walkthrough (as far as I'm aware off i.e. not aware of other vote manipulation).
As always, Rico, I love your postgame spreadsheet reveal. It's awesome to get a glimpse of what goes on in your head in these games. I also love knowing there are people as crazy as me out there who think about the mafia games they are in CONSTANTLY.

G-Man wrote:
nijuukyugou wrote:G-man, I appreciated your ass jokes. I laughed so much in this game :haha:
You're quite welcome. How ironic that the guy making LOT jokes and the guy making ASS jokes had BTSC?

I'm amazed that I lived for as long as I did. Golden (Lot) and I gained BTSC the first night and I was worried his sudden reversal on me would look obvious or shifty. Golden's vouching for me also probably should have been a giveaway to the baddies as to who we were.

At first my technicolor lists were fun. I suck at reading people so I really far too much on vote analysis. I think I started doing my Technicolor Vote lists after seeing MP's rainbow reads in Econ Mafia. I was curious if anyone thought I was MP because of that. But yeah, those technicolor lists stopped being fun around the time I died.

Epi told us that we could retain BTSC even though I was dead, so I kept composing the technicolor lists and PM'ed them to Golden's sock account. I was also keeping abreast of the game and theorizing with Golden in our chat room. We didn't always see eye to eye. At the end, I was paranoid that Bathsheba was Judas because that sock got active again right around the time Judas killed me.

Also, I totally had four of the five Heathens pegged at various points. I caught Ruth in what I thought was a lie when she claimed she had been silenced. Then my technicolor lists exposed Mordecai, Deborah, and Esther. I was going nuts in the chat with Golden, all but screaming at you guys to go after Deborah. Glad you guys did. I didn't provide Golden with much input at all for the final day because I wanted the civvies to win or lose without outside help.

So proud of you guys! Way to win it!

I actually intended to be like a lot of you guys and just slack off and post as little as necessary. But then I got BTSC with Golden and I felt obligated to commit as much effort as possible. I put in a full-game effort despite only being alive for 2/3 of the game. Ironic that Golden was working so hard with me in this game and so hard against me in Econ. Good thing he didn't know I was his BTSC partner. That could have gotten awkward.

I also had a lot of fun writing the "Dear Living Players" posts. I did something like that when I died during The Office Mafia on Lostpedia. It was an alternate storyline where all the dead players were still working I think. I laughed good and hard when some of you speculated that my "DLP" posts actually meant something. Since I was still working BTSC with Golden, I figured I ought to contribute some cheeky humor in the game thread too.

Serious question- did anyone suspect I was Balaam at any point? I don't know if any of the LP/TP'ers of old remembered me or my play style. Heck, I don't even know if it was my old style.
I knew it was you around Day 2 or so. I knew I wasn't the one making technicolor lists and a few of the posts you made sounded very much like you. And to be on the record, the thing that got Paul looking at me Day One was totally something i would have done as a civ; that's why i did it. I drew attention to myself pointing out an anomaly. It backfired, but I would have called Paul out, maybe even harder, had I been a civ.

I was reaction-baiting big time. I was hoping to approach the game very differently and be more successful than my old civvie self of the past year or two that almost always sucked it up every game.

I missed Paul for the longest time after I died. I wanted to continue my behavior as one of my subsequent socks, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it, since it was too much work. It was really refreshing though to be able to play with a completely new identity.

S~V~S played me real hard that game too. It's what started my distrust of her for YEARS. :P

If you have any other remarks about my sock play, I welcome them. I'm sorry if I upset any civ during my last words, with Ruth getting rezzed and all. As I've said, I got stuck with the option due to no-Night being in effect. As for the last words, it had to be done. Heathens were getting lynched, I was only at halfway towards my win completion, so it was desperate times. I still don't think I would have won if so many double-deaths these past days wouldn't have happened. This game was pretty great baddie hunting all in all and I sucked at it, the more I tried to act civ-like. Mislynching is still my main issue in Mafia playing, regardless of alignment.
I'm very intrigued to see your spreadsheets, as always.

Re: Biblical Mafia [ENDGAME]

That's why I thought Pilate was bad; I saw that as a calculated baddie ploy at first and was convinced it was the case. But as time went by, it became increasingly clear that wasn't the case.

I was kind of surprised a few of the Nights there at the end, but I just figured they left him alive for tinfoiling. It's easy to get the thread suspicious of a high contributor near endgame by specifically keeping them alive, especially if they're known for amazing behavior regardless of alignment (like Golden).

I know right? The what if game.

Many moments in this game, including as well if Uzziah had been lynched earlier whether it actually would have been helpful for you guys.

Why didn't you save yourself, on the day of your lynch?
We didn't know Samsons vote counted.
But Samson's vote came in the last second, after Mordecai's.

In case you missed it, hats off again to your post-rezz posts. I was in awe how much of a creative fight you were able to pull, even with zero chances to be taken as anything else but a rezzed Heathen.

I started targeting Heathens after they started getting lynched, even though I realized it would leave to nothing significant, as long as Joshua was alive. I got stuck with my Ruth pick on the day Mordecai got lynched, then it was another Day and I got lynched, so that's why she had risen. My "last words" was just a sudden flavour story, considering I knew what would happen after my death - plus the kill Jacob part, which would have helped both me and the Heathens throughout the rest of the game.
Yes! I echo this. Your ability to convincingly fight out of a lynch after resurrection, S~V~S, was outstanding. It reminded me of Computer Lab where you lived so long as outed baddie. It was truly amazing.

Indeed, I can relate so much. Actually, it's a similar assumption that screwed me in Recruitment 1. That damn amulet.

In a way, I still can't believe you guys lost. In fact, all four of the last baddies were CRUCIAL lynches where you definitely could have kept the necessary momentum to win thereafter if those players hadn't been lynched.

The civilians really earned it at endgame though. I'm so glad they didn't listen to me and they lynched Esther instead of Pilate.

This seems like deja vu for MOTU.

I worked SO HARD that game, and planned the lynch where Snow Dog ended up being lynched, assuming the civilians had little or no vote manipulation, despite my various vote manipulation machines.

I couldn't have been any more wrong. :sigh:

I still think we could have won that game if I played that lynch differently. It was what cracked our team completely open and we fell like dominoes after that.

Honestly, my three biggest disappointing losses are: Recruitment 1 (still), MOTU, and (now) Economics. So I know how it feels to misjudge a situation like that and have vote manipulation come out of NOWHERE and screw you.

Anything that manages to unseat American Gods as my favorite game deserves high praise indeed. (but damn, American Gods was fun.)
NOOOOO! Don;t unseat American Gods!
What can I say, I just have a thing for games about deities.

Did anyone NOT know Absalom was me? I tried really hard to play different at first, but gave up after a few days.

Also, I only seem able to survive as an active player in Sock games. No idea why that is.
Apparently I still can't survive as an active player in Sock games. Silenced D2 and then swiftly NKed. :P

timmer wrote:Regarding my inactivity in the game as Deborah. the first few days i was genuinely absent due to life issues. But after awhile, I realized two things. 1) I've never really been one of those players who sign up and then don't post, so I decided to sort of see how long I could do that and survive, but it made sense to me to try because 2) I noticed that the main block of active civs were focusing VERY INTENSELY, with rainbow wall posts, almost EXCLUSIVELY on voting records. Very few people were reading players individually, but instead studied lynches. So I calmly made a point of showing up at about the 3/4 mark every single day, made a little post explaining my vote, and voted. To the lynch readers, my lack of content didn't seem all that important, lol, and I survived that way until Day 13!

While I wasn't exactly proud of the choice I made for this game, it was kind of fun to keep it calibrated ehhehe
I still wanted to take you down early on, but nobody else cared and I took the pedal off myself. :disappoint:

Hats off to Esther and Rahab, otherwise. I died having them, based on posts analysis, as having the cleanest record.
timmer, I knew you were having some serious RL issues, as it affected your game briefly in The Flash as well. I can't say I fault you for your experiment in continuing it, especially since that's unlike you. Lol.

Definitely. Elo and Blooper, you both played an excellent endgame.

nijuukyugou wrote:Epi gave me the perfect role for this game because I was a bit baddied-out from Roger Rabbit (as in, worked hard and needed a break from being devious) and really busy with end of year schoolwork. I got to choose whether or not I wanted to search for heathens or horsemen each night and join their win condition if I found one. I strongly considered never searching for anyone and playing as a civ this game because it doesn't stress me out as much, but my role was also convenient for checking up people, so I used it for a bit to my advantage. I checked Paul Night 1 and got no response, so I figured out he was civ. My suspicion and vote for Uzziah at first was totally legit, so it worked to my advantage for quite a while! Would've been convenient to keep up the power as a civ, only checking who I thought was civ, but I couldn't resist the chance to be bad or indy :D
I can relate 100%. I'm so glad I've been given civilian roles in recent games (this until I replaced in but even then I tried to make it civ-friendly when I didn't have to, Economics, etc.)

Yes. About that. I've never seen such inactivity. I quit writing down Night actions because I would have three or four regularly.
:disappoint:

I was saddened by that myself. Even with my hectic RL and playing another game, I was able to post once per period as Stephen for a while there.
I don't want this to sound too serious hat mode, but I'm still seriously considering playing a future game as borderline inactive, considering how bad I got burned being so active (yet wrong about stuff), whilst others fared much better and did so little. Of course, I said I'd play like Deborah did, but I can't do that anymore, now that she flipped bad.

Now that this game is over, I can also disclose that my Omerta game was partially a protest both in this regard, as well as towards the tendency to lynch "oddball" players right away, early on in games. (Even though I'm a hypocrite for the latter part, because I also contributed to oddball players getting lynched in this game  )
Trust me, I've felt like that, and I could relate entirely as you going down, especially since I was bad in many of my first games just like you've been. I feel like it's easier to view it that way when you learn mafia as a baddie, rather than a civilian who has the mindset of helping the thread; as a baddie, you're more about survival. But don't give up on being an active participant. I've tried to tone down my game before, but it's just not me, and I haven't stuck to it. It's way more rewarding to develop a town-friendly active style and win as either alignment. I told myself I'd much rather win seldom but truly deserve it than win more often just because I develop a low participant or nonthreatening meta.

You're one of the most promising mafia newbies I've ever seen and I'd hate to see your playstyle degenerate just to ensure your own meta or survival.

It's clear, through this game, that the P-Score needs to be taken more harshly (and as Epi announced his intentions to be more harsh on it, I will as well), and the inactivity this game was definitely the worst I've probably ever seen at this site. GoC2 was pretty bad too, but this seemed worse somehow.
