I'm playing the Devil's advocate here, by the way. Every option is still a option to me and I believe one needs to tread carefully in the early stages of a game.
EPI IS SCUM, CYLON NEED TO, DIE NO QUESTIONS ASKED! IF I HAVE TO QUOTE SPAM THIS EVEY POST I WILL
I'd rather see what these missions can procure for us, and search elsewhere in the process. Focusing on Epignosis won't help if there are seven other Cylons we need to eliminate.
If things were as simple as "Humans win by killing all Cylons" versus "Cylons win by killing all Cylons", that'd be on the host post right on the first page. But it's not. Keep in mind, ika, that there are 5 humans that are the Final Five: which means Humans can be scum.
If Humans can be scum, Cylons can be town. Until we get some glimpse on whether stuff is as simple as you say I'm not going to just go and say every Cylon is evil. That might be true or not.
But first things first, let's destroy the Ress ship and stop Cylons from being respawned.

This is where I'm at. (What the Marmot said.) Epi is clearly a Cylon. I'm fine with killing him. I also think if we just lynch him again, before destroying Rezz Ships, we get the same outcome - with no new info. I'm willing to try to gain info from him if we can (keeping in mind the source, of course) and also look for other Cylons.
I'm not calling Epi town. I don't think anyone has done that. Some of us are simply open to the possibility that his win cons may be different from those of the other Cylons.
Thought of another question.
@ Epi - Do you have BTSC?
Do you know if other Cylons have BTSC?

Ok, 1 for real last thought.
@ Epi - You said you have no idea why you're back. Did you watch the show?
You were not told about the Rezz Ship? I assumed that would have been common Cylon knowledge.
Logging off for realsies. I love it when games get fun! And this one is complicated enough to be fun AND figure outtable.
Linkis - which I read this time before posting. OMG!!

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One
One final Epi / Athena thought. On the Wiki, this is part of Athena's description:
"Once on Galactica, she is imprisoned and long seen as a mere object. She frequently provides intelligence, but is severely mistreated by an interrogator from Pegasus who beats and sexually assaults her."
So, when I see Epi continuing to post "Ask me questions"... it makes me think... if we ask the right question, he may be able to provide us with intelligence. We just may have to ask the right question. I'll start with a few. Others, feel free to add on.
@ Epi - Am I on the right track with your abilities / knowledge here?
Do you know where a Rezz Ship is located?
Do you know how many sectors a Rezz Ship will fill?
Is there more than 1 Rezz Ship?
Do you have any allies?
Also, we can create a schedule for his severe mistreatment once we get these sorties sorted. Hey buddy, you got a role to play.

Well, I don't know. Scum hunting could still prove useful I think. We could at least identify the Cylons, and then see if they're pro-human or not. (At least now Epi is outed, and we can have clear conversations with him. Another post on him in a minute.) And with good record keeping with our sorties and identified Cylons we could make good progress.Polo wrote:So we should avoid lynches or else we could end up lynching a human.indiglo wrote:I don't think we can permanently kill ANY Cylon until the Rezz Ships are destroyed.
Also, I could be wrong. (Don't act all shocked now. )

In order to get a more complete town consensus, I would like to hear every person's thoughts on what we are up against tonight. If everybody provides an opinion, we may be able to figure it out as a group, and we will also have things to look back on about this and maybe reveal more depending on how people flip when they die.
My opinion - Epi's Cylon role is a pro-human/town/civ role. So I definitely do not think this game is as simple a set up as humans vs Cylons anymore. When I have a few more spare minutes (we are late getting to Game of Thrones tonight as it, but my sweetie is patient, thankfully) I'll try to do some more reading. I say we all check out that Wiki and try to figure out which Cylons could be pro-human, and which definitely aren't.
Also, let's remember, I don't think we can permanently kill ANY Cylon until the Rezz Ships are destroyed.

Personally, with our lack of information I would feel best checkerboarding it.
A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6
B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6
C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6
D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6
E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 E6
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6
Bolded ones should be first priority imo. If they are more than one space in length, we should hit every one of them that way. Once we get a hit, we should hit every spot adjacent to it in order to test if they have length or are single sectored.
I like this plan. So, shall we plan to go straight across the rows in a checker board fashion? As in our next sortie will head to A3?

In regards to Epig's flip, I would believe that Athena is town based on the wikipedia info provided. I highly doubt our mafia to consist of 12 players, and if it did, why would one of them be able to resurrect themselves. Makes no sense imho.
The basic thing with this event is that we need no make sure we have someone at every 6 hours so we don't lose time. Ika striking early is a good thing imo, because theres no way to logically deduce a grid like this, at least for the first decision.

So this is like a giant game of Battle Ship. Now that I can get down with.
I'm ok with the sector A1 for starting. But within 6 hours, let's make a plan, before just shouting out another one. Then, let's assign 1 person, to be responsible for authorizing the next section.
Let's see if we can't plan out the whole thing, thereby making good use of our 24 hours.
Any preferences for how we play it? Want to do all 4 corners? Want to go in a straight line? In a diagonal line?
Let's decide, and go ahead and create a schedule NOW for who will choose the next sector for each 6 hours.
Deal?

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One
Info on Cylon Rezz Ships for non-show familiar peeps (also from the Wiki):
A Resurrection Ship is a large, slim vessel specifically dedicated to the "resurrection" of humanoid Cylons who are killed or lost to the Cylon fleet (TRS: "Resurrection Ship, Part I").
The Resurrection Ship is a long, slim vessel composed of a large glass facade underneath a large metal superstructure sectioned off into individual frames. Underneath the glass, are stored the extra Cylon bodies the ship carries, maintained by artificial means until its ready for a new "host" consciousness. The aft end of the ship contains a large antenna, the FTL and sublight engines.
The interior matches with the Cylon basestar: Spartan metallic rooms with square, dim, light fixtures placed on the walls and ceilings. The rooms are occupied by rebirthing tanks, in which a spare body is placed, thus beginning the downloading and resurrection process (TRS: "Rapture").
The ship carries no offensive or defensive armaments of any kind, and must rely on the bulk of the Cylon fleet for defense. If left alone, Resurrections Ships are completely vulnerable to even the smallest of attacks to the point that Vipers firing through its windows can destroy it (TRS: "Resurrection Ship, Part I").
While Resurrection Ships perform resurrection duties, its the Resurrection Hub that actually controls resurrection. Destroy that and the Resurrection Ships become useless (TRS: "Guess What's Coming to Dinner," "The Hub").
On the show, no Cylon could permanently die as long as they were "within range" of the Rezz Ship. Their minds would just be uploaded/downloaded to the Rezz Ship when they died, and then uploaded/downloaded into a brand new Cylon Body. So they would be the same, look the same, know all the same stuff - so basically be the exact same cylon. Nothing would have changed. So I do not think any Cylon that dies and gets rezzed would come back as a different character.
To die permanently, you have to destroy the Rezz Ship, OR kill them while they're out of range of the Rezz ship. This is not a dynamic I had taken into account, I truly assumed they'd just die. But now that it's happened, it makes perfect sense. I'm just not sure how to permanently kill a Cylon then.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One
So, for folks not familiar with the show. Here's some info on 'Athena" from the BSG Wiki:
Sharon Agathon
The Cylon who eventually comes to be known as Sharon "Athena" Agathon is a Number Eight humanoid Cylon copy.
She is first encountered by Karl "Helo" Agathon when he is stranded on Caprica. Initially assigned to seduce him by impersonating Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii, as part of a Cylon cross-breeding experiment, she turns against her people and helps him escape the planet. Pregnant with Helo's child, Helo is shocked by her true nature but ultimately accepts her lovingly as the mother of his child.
Once on Galactica, she is imprisoned and long seen as a mere object. She frequently provides intelligence, but is severely mistreated by an interrogator from Pegasus who beats and sexually assaults her. Over time, she earns Admiral Adama's trust by helping the Colonial Fleet escape peril several times, and she is eventually appointed as a Colonial Officer and marries Karl Agathon. Agathon gives birth on Galactica, but her daughter, Hera, is subsequently hidden from her, because President Roslin considers the baby a threat to the Fleet. Agathon believes Hera to be dead for more than a year, but after learning the truth about her child during a confrontation with Valerii, she is able to regain her daughter from the Cylons with the help of Caprica-Six.
She later has to deal with Boomer returning, beating her terribly, seducing Helo and kidnapping Hera. This causes her to fall into a depression until she finally rescues Hera during a final battle that destroys the Cylons. Also she gets some revenge for what Boomer did by being the one to permanently kill her. Afterwards, she gets to live out a peaceful existence on new Earth with her husband and daughter.
So, duh, clearly a Cylon. So if we understand the game dynamic to be human vs. Cylon (as Town vs Scum) then he needs to go. If we look at it from a show perspective, Athena was one of the few Cylons who became loyal to the human cause.

Well, with 5 minutes left, I'm going to vote.
*Votes Epignosis*
I'm voting Epi because his defense so far has felt exactly like how he defended in Turf Wars, and not at all like how he defended in R&B. Small sample size? Yes indeed. But it's the vote I feel best about atm.

ISO results -
Polo's vote for LoRab was a mess up. He did not realize votes are non-changeable.
OA voted Polo for the mess up LoRab vote. She was camping and on a cell phone.
Although LC voted Matt, he also mentioned later he thinks Epi is also bad.
SW, I haven't voted yet because that's how non-changeable votes work. (At least to me, in my mind set.) It means I can gather all the info I have time to gather, and then finally, once I've gathered all that info (which I like to do for the entire day period if at all possible - if I'm going to be able to be here EoD) I make my vote. For me, it's dangerous to vote early in the day period with non-changeable votes, because something may happen to change my mind. Now, if I'm not sure I'll be here EoD, I'll definitely vote early to avoid missing the poll closing.
I'm actually seriously leaning Epi, unless something else comes up between now and then. I retain all of my normal, pre-lynch, Day 1 nerves, hesitation and fear.
Holy cow, the linki is strong!!

Oh, never mind.
I am now at a point where I am totally undecided. Rico's final posts before signing off touched my heart. I hope he isn't that emotionally manipulative as scum. But if he is, then it worked on me for today.
I'm not sold on Epi in either direction. More non-ika/SW input would be faboo and extremely helpful.
Otherwise all I have are a few tiny things that seem weird to me.
Zeebs vote for BR doesn't bother me (random Day 1's are random) but her reason bothers me. And she isn't here to explain.
I don't like Scotty's vote for DF. But his reason for doing it doesn't ping me.
I don't like Polo's vote for LoRab. And I don't know anything about Polo. Maybe an ISO there.
LC's vote for Matt, I want to re-read his reason.
OA's vote for Polo is strange.
Wasn't crazy about an exchange LA had w/ika, I think. But then again, if this is her first game with him... there were plenty of those discussions had in previous games w/ika & SW, so don't think I can fault her for that alone.
A couple of ISO's are in the mix for me. But my summary is that I don't care for some of the votes currently on the board, but I also have no great ideas of who to vote for at this point.

You did come around to say you were drained from the other game and gave some unexplained reads but that's not enough for me to read you as town.
I'm going to harp on this. Silverwolf acts like she knows what I do when I'm good or bad. She just said I'm more active when I'm good, and cited Downton Abbey (I was good) and Turf Wars (I was bad) as evidence of this claim.
That's a bad enough discrepancy, but there's more: In Turf Wars, Silverwolf only started suspecting me when I intentionally tried to discredit her opinion of ika (who was my teammate). She did not suspect me for my level of activity.
Ack. Back and forth on Epi now. These last 2 paragraphs are exactly how he defended himself against my suspicion of him at 1 point in Turf Wars. (He was scum, I was town.)

The small piece I pulled from that larger post (the very first quote above) was of separate interest to me because it represented a curious mindset that I don't think I've had as a townie on many occasions if any. I asked him to expand, and he did: he said he was keeping tabs on those who suspected him now as a comparative tool for later interactions in case something changes (meaning his notes function quite like a reads spreadsheet that someone else might keep), and I thought that was a believable answer. Granted, with a second look I'd say it's probably not deserving of quite the frank "town read" I supplied before -- but I'm making a pointed effort to take as many stances as I can because I absolutely hate calling anyone a "neutral read".
To Silverwolf and S~V~S (and anyone else who suspects G-Man for his lengthy notes post):

What does anyone think of Epi? He's usually more involved as town.
I mentioned earlier some players I need to hear more from before getting any kind of read - I was mostly thinking of SVS and Epi.
SVS just hasn't posted enough for me to get a read, and I'd rather wait to vote her until I get a read. Because if she's town she'll be a really good ally.
Epi hasn't posted enough for me to get a read either, although after he made his RAINBLOW LIST (typo intentional ) I'd say I'm leaning slightly civ, because our views aligned on a couple of players. I'm used to agreeing with civ Epi's reads.
I'm thinking both these players maybe just haven't had time to get going yet in the game. (Hell, I feel that way myself! )
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I'm not pinged by Matt at the moment. I see normal Matt business happening there. (And I really didn't think ALL his theories were crazy or out there either.)
JJJ strikes me as full on P50 mode. So light town read there atm.
Light town reads on ika and SW atm as well.
Some others that I'd like to try to gauge straight away haven't been terribly active yet, so will have to wait on those. For some of them, no knowledge of the show may be getting in the way, or the fact that it is the weekend, or whatever. I don't understand how some folks can come out of the first half of Day 1 with a bunch of reads they feel confident about. I don't feel confident about mine, but maybe that's the mafia culture I come from. (HV - Where Srs Bsns Is Not Our Bsns. *Those were the days.*) But then I guess, many of the folks posting reads aren't saying they're written in stone, they're just light reads, which I can get down with.
If I had to vote right this minute, I'd probably toss it Rico's way. But I don't, which is good. Because too many Day 1 lynches (in my experience at least) are mislynches and for stupid reasons, like someone sneezed or coughed when they shouldn't have, etc. And no, I don't think the Rico ping is quite that frivolous, but in the grand scheme of things it could be meaningless.
My brain is starting to shut down so this is getting very stream of consciousness. I'll stop now before I get even weirder.

If Tyrol is dead, however, Cylon attacks on Galactica have a chance of causing the death of an occupant on the Galactica, and a small chance of causing the destruction of Galactica and everyone on board.
Better to get used to it now than later!
Posting as I catch up (but who doesn't know that's how I roll by now? ) so if this has been answered already, my apologies.
Based on the show, the Cylons are kind of like the Borg in TNG - in that their goal is to eradicate all humans. So in the show, Cylons regularly try to hunt down the caravan of human ships that is traveling all around the universe trying to find a new home for all humans.
If I'm understanding this role/so forth correctly, I would correlate it to the opening event of the cipher. It is possible something like that would happen again, and if not solved, we would suffer a Cylon attack on the fleet. With Tyrol around, he can hold the fleet together with duct tape and bubble gum... and hopefully we should be fine. Without him... well, let's not even go there, the description of what could happen is pretty clear.
However, I'm not sure if that's all exactly true, just kind of what I assumed based on the show and so forth. Does that help?

I'm surprised more people haven't forgotten about it! It sounded kind of like Golden is giving us all a free day on these kinds of technical issues anyway, so hopefully it won't be a problem for anyone today.
I think keeping track of who forgets to do so could potentially prove helpful, just to see if there are consequences and/or what they might be. Unless they are made public by Admiral Golden.
Ruh-roh Shaggy!
Oh sorry, wrong show.
FRAK! Well, hopefully some of them were toasters.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One
I had this pulled to reply to, though someone else has already replied w/something similar to my thoughts. From what Golden posted, it is possible that all 8 don't start with BTSC. (All conjecture at this point, as per Golden, but it's fun, innit?) Also, on the show, there was occasionally dissent amongst the toasters. So maybe that may be an issue their team will have to deal with, I don't know.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Given that the toasters are divided into two colors like the humans, does anyone think we should be perceiving them as separate toaster teams? I ask because eight seems like a huge number for just one team.
Also, what about the non-humanoid toasters? Could the Secret be about that? I do not know a lot of the things I would like to know. But, that is life, mon ami.

Well, not any, but specifically a few...Ricochet wrote:By humans being Mafia, you mean the Final Five or any civilian role?
Gaius, Felix, and Tom Zarek come to mind as a few humans who could potentially be on a Mafia team, I would think. Maybe not Gaius, I guess it depends on your PoV.
Then again, this game is a semi closed setup and I've been known to burn my face off before with thinking the game would be too straightforward.
The Final Five has nothing to do with what I'm saying. Pretend they don't even exist for a moment.
What I'm saying, is that I think regular human non-cylons could be Mafia. It seems you've also seen the show, do you disagree with me that it's possible any or all of the names I mentioned could be Mafia?
Take into consideration, also, that the role list isn't divided between "civs" and "mafia", just "humans" and "cylons". And there are some Cylons (again, Athena, and the Final Five minus Tory) that could be considered "civs", so no I don't think it's "purely Matttalk".
I see what you are saying. I think that's an interesting point, too. I hadn't thought of it, but you're right. Some non-cylon humans could end up being toaster sympathizers, if you will.
I think it's also possible that different roles may have different win-cons... like Y can only win if X human is still alive, or Y can only win if X cylon is dead, etc. That would make win-cons slightly more detailed, but could still preserve the basic, intrinsic town vs scum dynamic.

I am not offended.LoRab wrote:And how about that. Those of you that said Sig were wrong, too. The viewpoint I was referring to was from Indi. Now it's possible he is a civ/townie that isn't exempt from Cylonism, but to me it still seems like an odd question. Because he would have been told in his role pm that he was a human and secret Cylon. Or he would have been told he was a human, with no mention of being a secret Cylon. Either way, he would already know the answer to his question if he were a Human/civ/townie, simply by reading his role pm.Ricochet wrote:Wait, I revisited this post and I'm confused a bit by it, especially the underlined part. Well Fine no helping solve the puzzle.

To me, asking that question makes more sense coming from a Cylon. But I am also aware everyone thinks differently. I am surprised this hasn't received more attention than it has, unless no one else reads it as odd. But I would still like more input from others, even if they don't think it's odd.
JJJ (can't I just call you P50 still?) - you do you, bro. Unless you really want to alter your play style. I understand your hesitancy to proclaim town reads this game, since those townies may be susceptible to being revealed as Cylons later (and possible town enemies). But still, you'll have those reads in your head at least, and will have to be aware enough to watch for changes in behavior from those town reads... so we may as well all watch for them together. Ya dig? I say play how you want to.

@Polo - thanks for that Tyrol info/reminder. I thought I read everything thoroughly, but missed that or forgot it. Good thing to keep in mind come future challenges.
