I'm off to Sweden for a few days, and not sure what my Internet access will be, but I'll make sure to check in at least once a day if there any polls.

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine [Night 2]

I'll go with 23. I'm hoping the boxes are filled with inflated balloons and thus will help him float safely home if he runs out of fuel.

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine [Day 2]

Hmmm. Well this definitely made Day 2 a lot more interesting, and in my opinion has given us a lot more leads than we had before. If you do die, thanks for that llama. I'm still not sure if your plan was brilliant or boneheaded.

My question to you if you manage to answer is: why single out DP for your plan? If I'm understanding correctly, you had no more reason to believe DP was bad than anyone else. He almost got killed, too, which would have given us much less info than you dying on purpose and would have turned out really bad if he was civ.

Mongoose wrote:Sorry - been slammed at work today. Also, had to go do my civic duty via jury summons.

Anyway, I chose Snow Dog due to llama's Hidden Message School of Thought. Can't spell Snow Dog without "goon." My apologies.

This is ironic, coming from you, Mongoose.

The shortness of this games days is really throwing me off, I keep expecting two where we get one. I'll be around a great deal tomorrow and willing to chat about whatever, but my major thoughts are thus (I can elaborate and explain tomorrow; I'm dead tired):

RIP, S~V~S. It's a shame to lose you so early, especially when you were so helpful to the new players. My theory is that she was killed mainly because of general helpfulness. Since she hadn't accused anyone of anything, I don't think her death gives us great leads.

The pig voters thing is still largely a joke, right?

I had decided not to vote Nev today, but he's seemed exceedingly prickly. I don't know what to make of it; I kind of changed my opinion on him with every new post of his I read today. For now I'm inclined to withhold judgment because I'm so unsure. I will ask, though: Nev, you said you had a certain role in mind for llama. How could that possibly be, so early on? I'm asking partly in astonishment at how fast that happened, to get more info about your thought process this game, and partly out of general curiosity. I've almost never pinned down a specific role, only alignments, and I'm curious about how others do it.

So, all that said....I don't know who to vote for. I don't have any pings anywhere near large enough to lynch someone over. So I'll go with...Bullzeye. Why not?

Oooh, I just saw polar bears! I almost want to be dead just so I can haul those. I'd get a special cold car, and polar bears are the best.

Boogs, really sorry to see you go, especially to go so early again. I'm sorry you have felt singled out and haven't been having fun, as well. If you do reconsider I'll be happy to see you in games.
Nevinera wrote:Man.. dinner with family, and I forgot about the poll :-\

I guess it wouldn't have changed anything, since I wouldn't have voted for myself.
Russtifinko wrote: Voting Nevinera. The hinting at info or grand theories but then leaving before explaining is a pretty thin ploy to avoid being decommissioned, if you ask me. Similar to cliffhangers in paperbacks. It doesn't necessarily mean Nev is bad; goodies and baddies both want to avoid decommisioning. But, well, it's Day 1, as I believe someone mentioned, and I have to vote for someone.

Not hinting, and it's no 'grand theory'. I didn't 'leave before explaining', I specifically chose not to explain for a clearly stated reason and then left.

I have no info at the moment, just logic. Specifically, I want the Narrow-Gaugers to be careful about hinting - it might seem like a good idea to give the other Narrows a hint so they can find you fast, but please be *really* subtle if you do try that. Civ BTSC groups of any real size are a huge advantage (remember the endgame of MotU), and baddies will see your hint too. Don't waste your check on me, I'm not claiming to be a Narrow (hear that, baddies? Don't bother scrapping me!). I think there's a fair chance that they won't believe me (and if nobody else hints, they won't have anything better to go on), so if anyone wanted to protect me tonight, that'd be swell ;-)

I choose pigs because bacon.
Fair enough. As I wrote at the time I posted that, it was Day 1 and the best ping I had at the time; it didn't mean that I was absolutely positively convinced you were a diesel. Although your quickness to try to make me look bad for my vote is not giving me the warm fuzzies.
Andrew wrote:I'm wondering which animal is going to get the most votes. What do you think? Please quote and answer.
I think pigs and goats will tie at 4. I'm voting horses, for equality! I actually like most of the other animals better, but my suspicion is that we need to work together to get all the animals moved. So I'm trying to help out with that.

Voting Nevinera. The hinting at info or grand theories but then leaving before explaining is a pretty thin ploy to avoid being decommissioned, if you ask me. Similar to cliffhangers in paperbacks. Linki with S~V~S: good point that the way the new players talk could give hints about whether they have BTSC. That'll be something worth watching as we move on. I'll also have a close eye on Boogs, though I'm not ready to vote him just yet.

Lizzy wrote:I suppose the half jurist in me tells me to be cautious when pointing fingers. Like I said, at this stage of the investigation, we know close to zilch. Soooo... everyone's innocent until proven guilty. Till then, for me it's either random or following an already existing or developing trend.
Linki: Interesting discussion, Snowie and Lizzy. I actually think that, in Mafia, innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply. If anything, I'd say the opposite is closer to being true.

And Lizz, as a continuous campaigner against random voting, I can say that the reason I dislike it has nothing to do with the Day 1 vote itself. Almost all Day 1 reasons are very weak, like you said. However, having a weak ping requires accountability in that the person voting is supposed to explain themselves in the thread. Their statements from Day 1 may be illuminating when examining behavior later in the game, especially if a baddie has been caught and we're looking for teammates. A random vote comes with no such explanation and thus can't be used as evidence (either of goodness or badness) later on.

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine [Day 0]

I almost forgot-speed game means 1-day decisions!
Boogs wrote:On that subject, Rust any info with you being our only Brown paint voter?
I didn't get any info or advantage from voting Brown that I can see so far. Unfortunately.

Thanks for also posting the poll results, Epi. That'll be really helpful for me.

I'm also curious to hear about Nev's ideas, and about why Boogs mentioned Civ (as S~V~S pointed out). I think I won't be voting a newbie today in observance of good form. I can't promise a grace period any longer than that though, just because of the sheer number of new players in this game.

Thanks for the poll results, llama! If it's not too much trouble I think I'll be needing those for all the polls during the game, since they end after my bedtime.

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine [Day 0]

Yay game! Hi everyone, and welcome to all the players I haven't met before (I count 8 or 9 of you). It'll be fun to have you along!

I think I'll choose Brown. It's not very glamorous, but someone ought to pick it.

I was thinking it's about time for me to get an avatar as well. Anyone have a suggestion, or an idea about what a Russtifinko is? I'm considering a lizard with dreadlocks, but that's technically a "Rasta Skink-o".
