The Syndicate Monthly Newsletter

Hey gang!

Because we love you all so much, we've decided to start sending out a monthly newsletter to apprise you of all the happenings, present and future, on the site. You all should have received the December copy yesterday in your inboxes. It is reproduced below for reference, and all future newsletters will be posted here as well. Thanks, and happy mafiaing!

The Syndicate Monthly Newsletter for Information and (Some) Whimsy
December 2016

Chapter One: New Moderator Categories

As you know, The Syndicate employs a number of attractive and talented people (at scandalous wages, I might add) to perform the various moderation duties necessary for an outfit of this size and scope. Whereas moderators have generally all been lumped into one category, we’ve made some changes to better define the various roles and assign them accordingly. The moderation team now includes:

Mods on Duty

These are your familiar game mods who are there to help the players of a given game resolve any difficulties or questions they might have with each other or with the host. It’s important to stress that the MoDs are there as a resource for you. We want to maintain an atmosphere of friendship and fun in the game threads, so please utilize the MoDs when you’re feeling frustrated, hurt, or otherwise having difficulties in a game.

The Mods on Duty are: Dom, Golden, JaggedJimmyJay, juliets, Sloonei, Spacedaisy (with S~V~S as admin supervisor)

Social Moderators

Social Moderators are a newly created category designed to monitor the Off Topic forums of the site. We love the fact that there are so many games, joke threads, and topics of serious discussion, all of which contribute to the strong community we strive for. Nevertheless, sometimes tempers flare, words are ill-chosen, and misunderstandings happen. If you see anything like this in the Off Topic forums, please report it to a Social Mod, who will endeavor to straighten things out so that the fun can resume.

The Social Mods are: Epignosis, nijuukyugou, thellama73 (with JaggedJimmyJay as admin supervisor)

Technical Moderators

You may think that running a Mafia site is all fun and games, but there’s a lot of technical expertise, housekeeping, and good old-fashioned administration that goes into keeping things running smoothly. The Technical Moderators are in charge of site maintenance, new features, and keeping track of things like the Hall of Fame, which are surprisingly labor intensive. If you’re having issues with the site, or if you have an idea for a new feature you’d like to see implemented, contact one of the Technical Mods.

The Technical Mods are: Metalmarsh89, Ricochet, SokothQultuq (with MovingPictures07 and Turnip Head as admin supervisors)

Chapter Two: Introducing the Graphics Team

See all those fancy banners in people’s signatures showing which games they’ve won? Those things don’t make themselves! Traditionally, hosts have had to make their own banners, but the lack of time or graphical expertise can lead to some banners that are less than what they could be.

Enter the brand new Graphics Team. Whenever you need a banner or other graphic made, these are the people to contact, and they’ll whip up something spiffy quicker than you can say “Nijuukyugou.”

The Graphics Team are: Spacedaisy and Long Con

Chapter Three: Personnel Changes

We are pleased to welcome Sloonei to the Moderators on Duty team, in recognition of his enthusiasm and dedication to the site when we first reached out to the Rate Your Music Mafia community. Be nice to Sloonei.

We also welcome SokothQultuq to the Technical Moderators team. Sokoth brings some much needed technical knowledge to the site, and we look forward to implementing some new features that have long been on our wishlists with his help. Be mean to Sokoth.

Appendix: Games Seeking Players

We are currently seeking players for A Mafia of Unfortunate Events hosted by the inimitable DFaraday. Whether you appreciate the charm and whimsy of the books and movies, or whether you just want to play a full game run by a talented host, this game will surely give you pleasure.

Dfaraday’s game will be followed by Sprityo’s Phenon Mafia, a game with a setup too fiendish and complicated for the present author to understand, and Majora’s Mask by Soneji, which has another video game theme, I guess.

That’s all for this month. Thanks for reading, thanks for playing, and thanks for being a part of our community at The Syndicate!
