Re: Game Over! Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I've had this experience as a host as well, and it is very frustrating. Especially when you have crafted the rolls to be balanced, and then one player not using their ability throws the game out of balance.Roxy wrote:I agree bc it is what happened in this game.Epignosis wrote:It's an issue I've tried to address here:Long Con wrote:I can't believe the dismal Civvie track record in the Jobs section of the Hall of Fame. I find two reasons for the rampant string of Mafia victories:
1. Overpowered Mafia with an unbalanced ratio.
2. Apathetic or uninvested civilians.
Not the overpowered mafia obv as there was a trio of players that were alive longest all from different teams.
Uninterested civs.
I cannot tell you how MANY PM's I sent out prior to the start of night literally BEGGING the civ players to use their power.
Never in any game that I have hosted have I seen so many civs not bothering to post, play or use their night action(s). It really bummed me out after all the work that went into creating a fun and balanced game - to have to beg people to use their ability. As a matter of fact there were a few that NEVER got used r if they had the civs would have had better chance than what they did.
My favorite completely unused role - The Dead Collector could choose any dead power they wanted to - they had kills, blocks, protections etc at their disposal and yet never used - a real bummer especially as it was my favorite role.

Re: Game Over! Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I don't really understand the distinction. How can you play as a team when you don't know who is on your team or who is trying to betray you? YOU are the only person you can really trust, so it makes fusing as a team difficult.S~V~S wrote:But every other place I have played it was 50/50 tbh, and the games had balance similar to ours. Except STV, where the civvies won more often than not, and that's because they were all very active for the most part. No chiefs. Here a lot of people seem to be playing to win THEMSELVES, rather than playing for the civvie cause. Perhaps because so many of our players started playing here, we grew our own culture. But I think the "*I* wanna win" culture we have going would see more civvie wins if it became "*WE* wanna win".Epignosis wrote:Are you implying that all Native Americans are followers?S~V~S wrote:It could also be civvies that play their roles as individuals rather than as members of a team; everyone wants to be a chief, no one wants to be an Indian. And civvies need Indians more than chiefs; too many chiefs, and the Indians lose interest. A trend I have noticed here is the civvies waste too much time suspecting each other becasue they are not even trying to play together or as a group.
I could be wrong, but IMO the games here are not any more out of, or in, balance than they are, or were, anywhere else![]()
Seriously, I think the issue is more that, in a full game, there's 48 hours to talk, but many people (mostly civilians) will wait until the last few hours to "catch up" and vote. These people have not allowed themselves the luxury of processing and digesting the information. Then what ends up happening is that they vote between the two (or three) people who have the most votes (or self vote- even worse) and call it a day. They're okay because it isn't them. If I have one skill as a FEB, it's forcing the false dilemma between two civilians. And most of the time it works like a charm.
I think uninterested civvies who don't really do any analysis and just follow the crowd is a bigger problem.

I tend to trust Boogs on this, because I don't think he has a strong incentive to lie right now. He was not taking any attention, so he doesn't need to save himself. If he were bad, he could simply stay silent and still have a good chance of seeing a civvie lynched. I don't think anyone was in such immediate, inevitable danger that this kind of hail Mary would be necessary.

I don't understand why MM said he wasn't afraid of being lynched. That was such a suspicious thing to say. Maybe when his role goes up on the front page we will get some insight. I thought he was going to flip The Black Knight, who I assumed would be bad, on the basis of his comment.
Anyway, I'm sorry MM.

Right, I have to go out so I am voting now. MetalMarsh's latest posts appealing to me for opinions and claiming he isn't scared of being lynched make me feel nervous about him, and I think Mongoose is unlikely to be bad, so I will vote for MM.

Re: Day 6 Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Why are you not afraid of being lynched? That's an odd thing to say, and every time someone says it, it makes me think they are bluffing. Although maybe you think being lynched will only result in a flesh wound.Metalmarsh89 wrote:Sorry for the multiple posts.thellama73 wrote:I find it odd that MM chose me to solicit an opinion (ostensibly a defense) from. I'll be honest, I have not been particularly suspicious of MM this game until this question, which rings all sorts of alarm bells for me.
I want your opinion because I haven't really gotten anything from you directly game, but maybe that was because of your read on me. I'm also trying to gauge your responses as well because I have grown very suspicious of you ever since Made was lynched.
I'm also not afraid of being lynched, so I'm trying to get as much reaction and interaction as I can if it were to happen.
I think it is natural to assume the French are baddies, if that is what you are asking, since they are the closest thing to a villain the movie has. Like I said, I had no real read on you until now, but your more recent posts are making me nervous. Right now I am looking for players who have not really stood out to me, since I think that is where the baddies are most likely to be hiding, while us big blustery blowhards kill each other.

I would also like to add that I firmly do not think Mongoose is bad. I happen to know that she is going through a lot of RL stuff at the moment, as well as hosting her own game, and I find her relative lack of participation completely normal. I think I know her style pretty well, and to me she reads like someone too busy to really keep up rather than someone who has a team to help her craft better arguments than the ones she has been making.

I haven't been getting the civviest feelings from Mongoose's posts, but my real problem is llama. I have been pretty sure he is civ, but reevaluating if I am super off. People said Mongooses defense of him was strange and possibly forced, but I haven't seen a forced defense before. I do remember in Supernatural being forced to do the opposite and make a case on Tranq. Juliets were you the trickster role in that game? Have others seen roles with forced defense before?

I have to admit, as suspicious as I find you. I am fairly tempted to go after a quiet person this time, because I feel like the baddies are letting the noisy people kill each other while they stay silent. After Made and SVS, I am nervous about lynching another very active, high posting player.
