This is really interesting, but wouldn't it be more likely that Mrs.Torrence role blocked? If she role blocked again last night then maybe no one else received a drink either. It looks like SVS and I both received a drink on Night 2, Mongoose almost got one Night 3, and I received another on Night 4, so since SVS and Mongoose didnt receive one Night 5 (if Bullz' theory is correct) then lloyd may have been role blocked again? Definitely jealous of your weekend SVS! Sorry you chose to vote me, as I am not who you think and am not a threat to you. My win condition does not require killing people. Re: The Shining: Night 2
From rereading Kate, I noticed she has never said anything openly about her win condition. In general she has said very little. This post makes me curious. I do not know if MP's suspicions are correct, but with so few of us left, I think this is pretty likely. I am not sure about SVS. She and Kate seem to be playing very different games, but SVS, whether lying or not has been very open about her win conditions not being a threat to anyone. With this in mind I am probably going to vote for Kate.Kate wrote:I think she said she liked my avatarMovingPictures07 wrote:
One thing I do find notable is that S~V~S and Kate haven't said a word to each other about each other so far this game. What that means I have no idea, but it is kind of interesting. They both can read each other insanely well. I'm sure I could think of other such similar things, but I wouldn't say anything immediately comes to mind as SUSPICIOUS or notable in that sort of way. Just observations that don't really tell much currently. But we still have some more time.

Seriously though, how do you read someone in this game? Isn't it all kind of dumb luck? I don't really have an opinion on her because I can't tell her affiliation because from the way the game is explained she doesn't really have one, nor does anyone else. Here's my official read: I think she's a player with a role. I haven't seen any indication that she has a partner, and if she does, its not me. I am not a Grady twin. I don't want to be lynched.

Re: The Shining: Day 5
You are correct, we all have to be some role, but I am not a twin. I can't speak for Mongoose. I think at this point its hard to define baddie. There are no more NKs, therefore I think it more accurate to say that we each have our individual baddies. Meaning those who prevent our win condition.Vompatti wrote:It has to be someone though.Kate wrote:I'm not suggesting its anyone, I'm just saying its not me.Vompatti wrote:Are you suggesting it's Hedgeowl and Mongoose then? I'm not getting baddie vibes from either. I wish we didn't have to lynch anyone.
While my win condition does not require anyone's death, I had forgotten about the lack of Night power if we dont vote. For this reason I am going to have to vote today, but I've been doing some rereading to help figure out who.
Have others received drinks by now? Is this a nightly thing?

Re: The Shining: Night 4
Hmm, these are really good questions. I had just assumed that when King was lynched that was why the killing stopped. Now I think many of us also thought that someone else might start killing as roles could have shifted. However, your points about role blocking etc. are worth noting. I think the chance of Nev and Wendy doing a combined role block, would require some pretty awesome luck. Not to say it isn't possible. Of your scenarios I am inclined to say 3, but we still don't know what Lloyd and the twins are up to. I think they are the last mentioned as potential "baddies." Of course after MP's lynch no one is going to admit if their win condition affects others lives.Mongoose wrote:These are the characters that have been offed:
* Jack Torrance
* Stanley Kubrick
* Stephen King
* Dick Halloran
* Delbert Grady
I was looking at the Players List on Page 1, and noticed that no one has been NK'd since N1.
There are several scenarios for this, and more than one of these is probably occurring.
1) Until Nev died (during the Day 3 vote), he was very effective at protecting various players.
2) Wendy, who is still alive, is doing a rather awesome job of role blocking a murderer.
3) All the "murderers" have died off already
4) There were PMs missing from various players on N3 and N4. Those PMs could have come from a player who has a murdery ability.
In summation: do we think any of the remaining characters have the ability to kill off characters at night? Or: are defensive players just playing very smartly.
I am also curious about this. Were you trying to imply something about the opera? Is it in the movie or book? Or is this Snow going cray cray? Since Mongoose's backwards writing we haven't had any weird public actions. Maybe that was a power of Jacks?Snow Dog wrote:Cozy fan tutte

Re: The Shining: Day 4
Ok, so clearly the no lynching strategy isn't going to work. However, another consideration is the Night powers. All those that don't vote can't use them as someone pointed out. Since there are no more NKs this doesn't necessarily mean that someone is bad or civ for voting.
I can definitely see MP's frustration, but think Kate is right. He has openly admitted, like many of us, what his win conditions are and will probably be lynched for it since it represents an unknown threat to us. As he points out, obviously we can't all have conditions that compliment each other entirely. Therefore someone has to be lying or is laying low. I don't think MP is lying, but do think based on his own words that he and I do not have complimentary win conditions.
Maybe Mongoose, Bullz, and Vomps have more to say here?

Nev is clearly desperate to get lynched and blatantly lying, saying he's lying, and altogether seemingly going insane. I am not going to vote for him in this scenario. It just doesn't make any sense. Unless it supports your win condition, why would you vote to lynch Nev if that's his win condition. And if killing someone supports your own condition clearly you may be a threat to the rest of us.
linki- jealous of bwt now!

Re: The Shining: Day 3
This isn't the llama gambit right? Cause I don't think that would work in this game. Since we all have what I assume are different win conditions, I really don't know how to interpret your suicide as having an 'extremely civ' motive. I am 95% not inclined to vote for you. I know the tendency is to lynch people for their behavior if it smacks of the weird, unpredictable, and unexplained, because they're probably a baddie, but Nev's actions strike me as decidedly odd.Nevinera wrote:After I'm lynched you will still all be confused. My suicide has a rational motive, and an extremely civ one.
I won't come back to haunt you. Unless the rules allow that? That would be cool :-p
As for haunting, I have started to wonder if based on our theme there might be more than meets the eye for the dead characters. That would be one of the only ways I could consider Nev's actions rational at all.

Re: The Shining: Day 3
So I really have no idea how to read Nev right now, cause this seems blatantly like the exact opposite of what we should do. I am surprised your reasoning led you here MP, but I understand the total lack of good candidates. If Nev is being honest and his win condition is aided by us lynching him, why would we do that? As llama has pointed out there are no traditional baddie civvie roles. Yes King was the most traditional baddie in the open, but we have no idea how the game will change us all. Since I don't know Nev's win goal I am a little nervous to vote him. You make an interesting point about the twins MP, but if Nev is one I don't think Snow is the other. Will spend some time rereading, which thankfully in this game is still possible.Nevinera wrote:Oh noes! You saw right through my clever stratagem. Me and snow are in cahoots; you should definitely kill him first though.MovingPictures07 wrote:Crap. This is tough. Yet again I feel I'm in a similar situation.
Now I realize the win conditions and roles are weird here, but I just can't get past the self-voting. Any baddie can do this in any game, especially in a game where the setup is strange and take advantage of people being rationally cautious, and continually avoid getting lynched due to a balls-to-the-wall approach. I realize there's a theory about insanity, but Nev has been saying for multiple day periods now what he has been regarding his win condition. The truth is that he voted Snow on D1, offering that Snow vote him in return, and then now he's gone off and voted for himself.
I'm contemplating that Snow and Nev could possibly have BTSC and be the Grady twins. Would make sense, wouldn't it? Not sure of that at all though. Given it's difficult to sense anyone else's intentions, and even though there is a possibility Nev might actually benefit from votes, there is always technically a possibility for something like that in a game with secrets. I wasn't sure I bought it with Snow Dog and I'm not sure I buy it now. I know for sure my win condition is NOTHING like that, and I don't see any role other than maybe the hotel that would benefit from something like that. Why would Nev do this perhaps? Well, another possibility is that he sees Snow Dog has survived twice now and seems a bit smug, so maybe he sees that it's an effective strategy. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, it doesn't change the fact that self-voting literally gets the civvie cause no better (even what weirdly constitutes a "civvie" cause in this game is STILL a civvie cause, of sorts), and especially now that it's Day 3, I find it a ridiculous civvie or baddie move regardless.
Add that I don't really have any reads on players due to the unconventional nature so far of this game and I wouldn't feel comfortable voting for Vomps, Bullz, or even Snow right now (though I might consider him second), or anyone else for that matter.
So... I guess I am voting Nevinera. With some hesitation... but I believe it's my best option given what's happened so far this day period and the previous two.
I will be back at some point tomorrow evening, whenever I can grab some internet.
Cause lynching me is too dangerous. You've gotta believe me, we will all die :'(

Re: The Shining: Day 1
I am curious why Nev threw himself under the bus in his second post. Why do you want to be lynched?Nevinera wrote:Sigh. That's probably me.. I'm just really busy lately!MovingPictures07 wrote:I'd much rather vote for the lowest poster than for Epig being a grammar Nazi, even though it is annoying. :P
Not sure I'll do that though. However, I will have to vote either tonight or tomorrow morning before work, as I won't be back in time.
I'll be extremely overly free in a couple of days when my family goes to Texas for a week;
I'm sure you'll get tired of me posting then!
I'm not really sure what I should be saying though.
I never really know what to do or think until after someone's been lynched -
how people vote on things with no obvious outcome, and how they talk on day 0
just doesn't seem to have much to do with their alignment :-\
You can lynch me if you want though.
I'll probably try to get myself lynched in a few days anyway :-P
The Overlook cannot be lynched, so do you mean NK'd?Nevinera wrote:From the book (I've seen the movie, but don't remember it clearly), I suspect that the hotel has an ugly win-condition.
(I hope theorizing about wincons we *don't* know is alright, Llama?)
I'm particularly worried about the 'threats' floating around - I suspect that they actually indicate some hidden knowledge about outcomes. There are a couple of characters with 'secrets', and in particular I'm concerned what might happen if we lynch the hotel itself.
(I think the bartender probably has one of those powers that can do various things - most likely with names for each capability based on proper mixed drinks. Cause I don't think Llama could help himself ;-) )
This plan clearly didn't work. Forced Snow to try and tie the vote, which somehow protected him? Why would he vote for himself if he was unlynchable? Just to cast doubt?Nevinera wrote:Well, I have very little to work with, and I'm not confident I'll be around before the poll closes, so I'm going to toss one out there.
Snow? I'll vote for you, because I don't think anyone else will. Feel free to vote for me too, it won't bother me.

Was this Kate's reason for voting Epi perhaps?Kate wrote:Llama, shall we lynch the grammar police for you? :P
Mongoose wrote:Oh lordy. Voting time. I sure hope no one votes for him/herself, especially in a game that Llama is hosting!
MovingPictures07 wrote:I will be voting for the first person to self-vote.
If that doesn't happen, I'm tempted to vote for Epig for trying too hard to act like the grammar police, but I'm not sure I'll actually act on that desire. I'm sure something better will emerge... I hope.
It appears that Mongoos, MP, and SVS have declared themselves anti-self-voters. However, Snow's self-vote came too late for MP to act on it. Are you considering a vote for Snow today, MP, Mongoose, or SVS?S~V~S wrote:Death to Nazis, lol~ grammar or otherwise
But srsly GNs are annoying, but not necessarily bad. Also if the host is irked with him, he is less likely to be irked with someone else, like me.
I will not vote for a low poster, or for myself, but I would consider a vote for someone who intentionally does not vote, or who self votes.

Ah, using the Simon approach, direct and to the point. Well done Mongoose. I would also like an answer to this question Mr. Zany.Mongoose wrote:Maybe I was voting Zany Dex in the wrong game. Vomps may have voted for you for a nonsense reason, but I don't think it's necessarily incriminating. We were all pretty much flying by the seat of our pants.
Zany Dex, are you bad?
MP- I think you are confused. The posting contest is happening in the other game. Apparently, the host there thought the game needed more discussion. Thank goodness no one thinks that here.

Ok, I'm going to reread the thread, but I think ya'll are right, we ain't got shit to go on so far.

Re: The Shining: Day 2
Maybe something like posting backwards is part of the insanification. Certain things that happen to us in the game that we can't control perhaps? I do wonder if this will happen to someone else or if these types of things will be different every day.Nevinera wrote:No, no, not a negative power. I think its existence implies a negative mechanic in the game - 'insanity level' reads to me like a form of accumulating value, not a characterization.S~V~S wrote:Well, I think that jacks insanity, for instance, would have ratcheted up once he met up with Grady. I am guessing they were potentially set to become the baddie team, perhaps. Again, I think this may be an affinity check.
You seemed to imply that you thought this was a negative power, and I am not sure why that would be. Can you tell me what I am missing?
I think that people can, in various ways, get 'insanity points', and that with enough of them we start being forced to do things at night, or join the baddie team (by changing wincon), or something else.
I think that power is intended to be useless at the beginning and get more important later.
