i lived on the north shore of oahu (waialua area) for 2 summers. we had a house on the water and could see whales occasionally from the kitchen window.

I liked hiking there a lot. lots of cool elevations and waterfalls.

ohhh my god that's my favorite area, my mom has taken me to stay at beach houses on crozier drive 10+ times <3 (she grew up in kailua and had a family beach house on the north shore)

also love the hiking especially nuuanu pali

We are formulating plans to eventually maybe get a little house an hour or two upstate that is close enough to drive to the city when we need and still have a backyard and hiking opportunities

Central Park is at least partially helpful for our mental well being

I grew up in a little neighborhood in the Mount Kisco/Bedford area right on the Croton Reservoir, had an awesome backyard that went into the woods, would recommend that area for sure

i feel bad for anyone for whom indian food is not in the regular rotation

Give me a movie/show or book recommendation that fits the bill.
Ursula k le guin has some good sci fi books that I recall being approachable for serious readers that aren't sci fi fans. I don't remember the order you're supposed to read them in offhand but left hand of darkness and the dispossessed. I recall hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fitting the bill well (both the movie and the book). Asimov is an acquired taste but a lot of his stuff is focused more around philosophical/ethical concerns rather than the specific made up science, nemesis and a lot of his other short stories in particular.

For movies/tv...well doctor who is a classic entry point for a lot of people, and is pretty accessible...star wars of course...perhaps not stereotypical sci fi but the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is an excellent movie

Le guin is amaaaaaazing especially those two yeah, her stuff is super thought provoking and has so many beautifully crafted sentences

The Chinese garden is really nice! Japanese one even nicer, and bigger/more spread out, but a bit more out of the way.

I'd argue that Codenames also has a social deduction element, at least in my experience there's a very psychological/personal bent to deciphering the clues. I love that game as well, and Resistance is fun too (haven't played it as much)

I have a lot of trouble picking a top ten. These are the ones that had the most impact on me, I think.

Sloonei, I recommend all of these, if you like the genre that they sit in. Nichijou is a bizarre comedy, One Punch Man is a parody, Haruhi is a slice of life, Durarara!! is a character-driven mishmash of gangs set in a strange city... Lots of variety there. I'd only recommend the English versions of Baccano!, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and maaaaaybe Durarara!! or Haruhi. The original Japanese is still better, and that's coming from someone who has seen both.
Don't watch the English Steins;Gate. It's missing a lot of the charm of the original, in my opinion.

I write fantasy novels, generally. Any idea that strikes my fancy. Right now it's a story about a principled teenage girl who also happens to be a necromancer. I'm having a lot of fun with that concept.

I think I've seen a few episodes of Haruhi, and I still haven't watched Baccano but it's definitely on my list. Never seen Death Note either and have never heard of Mob Psycho 100, but have seen all of the rest of them. Durarara, Steins;Gate, Nichijou, FMA:B and OPM are all probably in my top 10 too. My number one favorite though is probably Seirei no Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit), if you haven't seen it I strongly recommend it. It's gorgeous.
