ReaDing through the roles a little closer, I found this:

based on this, I'm guessing that Each L and N means how many lynches and nights our assigned roles can survive. As you can see, the Boomslang role gets extra night protects when certain events happen, hence the "???" part of "N= 1+???" Just my best guess...
