Re: Random~
Seems we Nauruans made the Washington Post with a storm that blitzed and ravaged through my hometown's region yesterday afternoon. Article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/eu ... defd2a1e8a
The skies turned dark, the clouds brown with dust, the winds teared in, small booths near our supermarket got disassembled, power lines and traffic light got plucked out in, like, 5 minutes. It was quite surreal.
I didn't write this down in "99 problems", because nothing of significance happened really to our building and my family, except for losing power and me still having to go to a trumpet rehearsal, because the teacher is fearlessly cray. But acquaintances of mine were driving home or were stuck somewhere out or found their cars smashed in their parking lot; the city center was littered with rooftop tiles from very old buildings; I had to slalom through fallen trees today in the park route I take towards work; at school, the gym teacher couldn't come, because her daughter was hit in the head with a tile, and another teacher had his house's roof fly off; and the third grade girl in my piano class claimed she was out with her aunt and saw a car being hit by power cables and catch fire... with people inside.
Safe to say we aren't quite prepped for the end of times.

How on bloody Earth is "not teaching grammar" even supposed to be a school (or state?) regulation?

I have been introduced to the activity of Catan while on a brief holiday with friends. I have suffered defeat on my first attempt to the only friend who knew how to play beforehand out of our party of five.
There was no second opportunity to play on subsequent evenings.
How will I now be able to claim my revenge?
I demand satisfaction.

In a related story, we are in the midst of a game of Risk.
After half the competitors went to bed, I showed Simon a live performance of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears, a song he likes. I figured he'd like to see the players behind the song.
He said, "They're just copying what we're trying to do tonight. Copycats."
Hmm?
It took me a moment.
Everybody wants to rule the world.
Risk.
I love the way this kid thinks.
Ten years old, and I'm only beginning to unravel his process.
Maybe everybody wants to rule the world.
I just want to understand his.

Re: Random~
That was legit one of the most wonderful happenings I've read from you, Epig. So glad you had a pastor like this for your service. It's strange and I can't explain how come, but only yesterday I found myself reflecting on how much a religious memorial service can honor the life and remembrance of a person (and/or whether it matters). (Movies usually show me family members giving speeches of their own - was that the case for you as well?) But from the little I know (lost two grandparents and attended a few more funerals of neighbours, teachers, family members of teachers / friends etc.), the church I, at least in theory, belong to (orthodox) could be described as doing the most austere, if not actually lackluster, proceedings: the priest does all the talking and, apart from gathering information on the deceased and his relatives and relaying them accurately, nothing truly is said. Even at the funeral of a cellist's mother - herself having almost turned three digits in her age -, who is Catholic, the priest was permissive enough to allow the cellist to perform a classical short piece, given her background and such.
Anyway, excuse these personal musings / subtle rant, but bottom line, I'm very glad to hear your great-grandmother received a service that was emotional and fulfilling for you.

I'm playing in the Philharmonic orchestra this week. It's doing a screening of G.W. Pabst's silent Pandora's Box (basically a loose adaptation of Wedekind's "Lulu plays", predating the opera written by Alban Berg) with live music (a recent new original score).
It isn't playing with the Philharmonic, it isn't even playing the piano part but rather the celesta part, for which there isn't even a celesta available but rather only a keyboard set on celesta - but hey, I'll take it.

Imma copypasta what I wrote in the Shred FB group, I dont have computer access till tomorrow nor much desire to go in more detail
~~
Kid A played the meh-est he could have played. He was also more anxious all of a sudden.
Third prize. Best prize was a mile ahead, and yet it only received second prize, which was wyrd.
I should view stuff in a positive light, but since I am kaiju nervy Richorse, I feel pretty frustrated by my inability to make Kid A receptive, inspired, able to play richly and expressively.
I made him study this last stretch as intensely as I've been taught myself. I kinda feel these days were all a waste.
Mom A now suddenly thinks "it's ok, Kid A won't ever be a concert pianist. We can just let him be and he'll become a composer, since he likes to write and stuff." One trial itsy-bitsy concert and she's jumping already to this verdict.
Mkay.

Catching up with a few topics here:
1. timmer, first of all I have to express that I'm sorry to hear of your separation outcome, although I'm equally glad that you seem to pursue a positive approach on this. Reading your take on it has been sort of refreshing, although I personally never myself believed in the fact that relationships, marriages and such are destined to have golddust on them forever (sadly, that still lead to inevitable bad kismet in a few of my experiences). As far as your situation goes, there'll surely be many things to sort out, so I hope for the best for you, the kids and anyone else concerned.
2. I have not implemented and/or used any Win10 apps
3. Pepsi hour starts here at whenever I get home or whenever I'm home after 3pm
4. the active topics page looks like this
