Nacho, you were quieter in Unfortunate Events, and then turned out to be bad. This reminds me much more of your civ game on here (Monkey Island). Do you believe this is a meta tell I should read into, or just a matter of your circumstances at the time of each game?

I think there are lots of reasons baddies kill people. Threat is one, but not the only. And who is to say how big a threat baddies perceive items to be.Nachomamma8 wrote:I can't foresee a situation where "this player has an item" is a reason for me to nightkill them as scum over "this person is a threat to my team" and if the scumteam has a different approach then I don't think there is a very good chance of us losing this game.

Re: Phenon Mafia: Day 1 - And Into the Fire
1) Our setups can be wildly different. For the game to be balanced you'd expect around 20-25%, but what if there are two teams, or malignant indys etc. The setups are normal more often than not but they can vary, andSilver Lantern wrote:Yes that was also my understanding, it just seemed like JJJ was calling for a slow down, but I guess he was just saying not to pile on votes.Golden wrote:My understanding is that its 11 that ends the phase, but 6 are required to have any lynch at all. This is something we have to be careful about, because mafia could engineer a no lynch.Silver Lantern wrote:I think the # of mafia thing is suspicious enough that I have no issues voting for him/her.
If we get to 6 votes on someone, the phase ends?
What's the mafia/town ratio for this # of players on this site? Where I usually play its usually 20-25% depending on powers. It's a power heavy meta.
2) Sprit is really bringing this set up (mostly, as far as I can tell) from elsewhere, so we have no idea of what he might do. This game set up is relatively new here (or at least could be).
Also, if we are talking about Dizzy, it's only his second game here, so he isn't overly familiar with this site either.
The lowest we've got. Except maybe Vompatti.Silver Lantern wrote:Is Dfaraday usually a low poster?

I agree. But it did read as though you made a presumption. At the moment, I think we should consider all options as open.insertnamehere wrote:I don't see any reason to presume that the direction poll is completely irrelevant and cannot benefit either the civilians or the baddies.Golden wrote:I don't see any reason to presume that particular options will benefit a particular faction at this stage.insertnamehere wrote:MM, Golden, and 3J all want us to go to a different destination.
Only one of them will benefit the civilians (assuming whoever has the map is a civilian).
That's a problem.
I also think that it's very difficult to know, or do anything, about a 'mafia-favouring' option at this early stage. But, it could become helpful information in hindsight later.

I don't see it as anything other than normal inh either. I didn't feel like we were talking past each other, it felt like a conversation where we traded perspectives.nutella wrote:I trust JJJ the most, so I'm voting for northeast.
I think this dispute with INH is kind of silly and might just be people talking past each other -- I think he's saying completely reasonable things, and everyone else is also saying reasonable things, just from different standpoints. I don't read anything suspicious here.

I think you have a tendency to suspect me, but here is a golden rule you can trust me to live by.insertnamehere wrote:I'm not calling it a slip-up, but it is as Golden said, a series of unfortunate events. I'm just open to the possibility of it being a fictional one.
Even when bad, I lie very very rarely. I don't create fictional stories. I heavily discourage teammates from doing it as well. Why? Because all it can do is lead to you getting caught in the lie. It's just a really poor strategy. There's a reason my baddie game is relatively successful, and it's because I leave as few threads to tug on as I possibly can.
Lies are reserved for things that can create a significant game advantage (and even then, you need to feel like its a safe lie), or for fake reads.
Having said that, I do see the advantage in lying to protect others from nks, as a civilian.

Re: Phenon Mafia: Day 1 - And Into the Fire
I mean there's two answers right. One answer is that I can't leave something hanging that appears dishonest (even if it was honest at the time) - I wouldn't call this a 'slip', just an unfortunate series of eventssig wrote:The fact you said you didn't have the map then you said you did.Golden wrote:What was strange about them?sig wrote:I do agree with INH, those posts did seem strange, but would it be something the mafia would do? It could have been a PM slip true, but I'm not convinced that's the case. However, I don't see any reason why a mafia member would do this, I view it more as you trying to make it harder to narrow down the map holder and as of right now we have four(?) people claiming the map. Myself, MM, Golden, and JJJ.
So I wouldn't lynch vote you on that and I would find it suspicious for people to use that as a reason to vote for you.
Speaking of voting I should totally get an item tonight. Vote for me then.
Also I voted East since Philadelphia is on a east coast.

I wouldn't have chosen to say this in a vacuum, but since I already said I didn't get the map...
I did get the map. I was just impatient and assumed the PM had gone elsewhere.
It doesn't feel massively helpful, but it does enable me to turn the compass directions on this poll (and others) into specific locations. If we go to a location that turns out to be favourable, I might be able to help us get back there. It looks like you can't get everywhere from everywhere, though. For now, it's meaningless to me.
Thanks to those who trusted me. It genuinely is the first time I've been elected to get one of these! I assumed it had gone to Jay.

The more I think about it, the more I think people should just go with their gut and not declare it. It does potentially put a target on a person's back.nutella wrote:Oh boy a fresh hot new game!
The map thing kinda reminds me of selecting prefects, in that it kinda feels almost like some kind of popularity/trust contest between the enthusiastic players who nominate themselves, and it feels dangerous to put that trust in someone who asks for it but... idk, anyone who played that game should remember that whole can of worms. But it would be best to eventually form some kind of consensus, we just have to hope we don't pick the wrong nominee.![]()
As for the poll I don't know what the context or consequences may be but I think scientist is the coolest out of those
Also, I don't remember what game the prefect thing was now, and what actually happened with that?
I'm assuming in this game there will be more items (based on the way the PM was written) and so there will be opportunities to spread them out a bit, hopefully.

So far we only have two non-self-nominations for getting the map. Golden for Jay, speedchuck for Quin, and I'm already wary of both of them. But this is Day 0; I'm wary of everything.
My kneejerk is to say that Jay should have the map, because if he's town, I trust him to make good use of it. But that's kneejerk.
I can honestly say that I will likely only be able to get on once a day this weekend, so I shouldn't get the map. Not if I infer correctly that having it would require me to be on more than possible. (Again, that's only for this weekend, I'll be on more after that.)
