Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Four

After two days of sick child hell, I'm close to throwing in the towel and asking to be replaced. Three hours of sleep two nights in a row and being spat up on every feeding has a way of wearing a guy down.

Forgive my absence and forgive me if I don't return before the vote. I saw the Cylon statement thing and anyone who doesn't say the phrase is a damn fool who is either selfish or bad. Quit dicking around and just say it.

I am a Cylon. Please cross my name off the list and whoever is keeping that list, make the names of those who said it yesterday a different color for organization's sake.

Pressure vote the worst looking holdout and make sure you've got two vote recipients from yesterday's lynch as backups in case there are any rezz ships still out there. We could have been done with the sorties by the deadline but not anymore. I'm so far behind at this point that I don't even know who to vote for.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Four

So say we all.

After a night of tending to a sick and fussy baby, I am behind again, not to mention tired. I'll spend the next 24 hours or so re-reading a few things and catching up on Day 4. It seems we have options today, which is nice. Let me check on our sortie status before starting my re-read.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Three

Apologies, Polo. You are correct. I have LoRab self-voting her first vote instead of you. :p Just the product of hasty work. Once I don't have a sleeping baby laying on my chest, I will fix that. I have all my technicolors saved in a Notepad file so I just have to add new days and info without recreating the list or quoting myself each time.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Three

A question for the host:
In comparing the lynch poll with your vote post for Day 3, I see that SokothQultuq's vote is not recorded on your Day 3 list. Is this a mistake or was his vote withheld for some reason?

Here is his vote:
SokothQultuq wrote:Keeping with my promise. I rolled a 10. So 3J it is..

I vote JaggedJimmyJay
Others have voted in a similar format as this.

If it is a mistaken omission, he voted in the thread between Epignosis and juliets.

I'm just looking for a yay or nay on whether his vote should appear on your list.

I'm going to go work on my technicolor lists but Sokoth's vote status is kind of important for accuracy's sake.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Three

Awesome result guys, really. I wish I had gotten that write-up on Glorfindel into the thread sooner. Would any of you later LoRab or Nero voters gone that way even? I realize that we now seem to have a few more fish to fry but please don't forget about Glorfindel. I'm convinced he's a Toaster. Heck, even the civvie that was just mislynched was leaning that way.

Since nobody has submitted a sortie in a while,

GOLDEN THE COWARD ;) ! Let's do :

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Three

Alright, well, I still feel pretty good about my Glorfindel case and I will most likely vote for him. That law is making this a frustrating lynch. Best case scenario if LoRab isn't a Toaster is that she's the secret role and has some kind of anti-town angle and she gets lynched. If she's just a civvie and bluffing, then we could be in for a whole lot of suck depending on her role.

Glorfindel wrote:
G-Man wrote:Finally he chastises Sokoth for finally forming some opinions because Sokoth takes aim at Glorfindel for what looks like a hasty "NO U" reaction.
Is that REALLY how you see that exchange my friend? I was chastising 'Sokoth' for precisely the opposite - I don't consider random, unsubstantiated accusations 'opinions'. I seriously doubt that anyone else here would. I AM genuinely trying to figure out this game and although I may be 'tinfoiling' for the first time I seriously think there is more to this game than the simplistic black and white view some people have adopted. Personally, I think what you've painted there is a pretty flimsy case almost rivaling the 'Two Face' accusation leveled at me in my last game here. Nonetheless, if that's the best you can do in finding a Mafia Team member, good for you.

One thing that has concerned me for some time time now is my initial exchange with IAWY. As I stated in the Sign-up thread, he was the reason I even signed up for this game. In the last game we played together, I defended him from the 'get go'. Given our history together, I find it extraordinary that he would make an accusation against me Day 1 like he did. After Dr Wilgy replaced him, gave him the benefit of the doubt and have heard practically nothing since. Then there was the exchange between IAWY and Magnus (Nerolunar). In retrospect, the whole 'No, you!' exchange doesn't really look as convincing as it did at the time. Distancing, perhaps...
Admittedly, by the time I got to the NO U I was feeling pretty cynical toward you. It happens when you case somebody. There's a point of no return in regards of suspecting someone. Once you cross that point you read them like a baddie no matter what the say. That's where I was with you at that point.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Three

Apologies for the lateness of my Glorf case. It was my night to feed dinner to the baby and she's got a cold. Lots of fussing with dinner and some scary gaspings for air while I worked that post up. Looks like we'll be sucking snot out of her nose often tonight. Ah the joys of parenting.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Three

A preface is in order to understand where I'm coming from.

I don't usually look for teammate behavior until I have vote data pointing me in that direction. I also don't track people's meta because I've never been the best at it. When looking at Nutella, I saw individual behavior that looked bad to me. My theory on Glorfindel is built around similar observations.

Check out his post history.

His first four posts include the following:
-Whoops I missed the start of the game
-Whoops I didn't read the rules
-A slight civ vibe based on skim reading
-A funny post of no substance
-Whoops I missed the vote

Then two mechanics related posts, and an "I'm catching up (43 pages in) but totally lost" post, lowering our expectations for Day 2.

On Day 2, we get:
-a post where he says he feels good about Matt and Zebra
-a mechanics related post on Toaster allegiance
-another mechanics post
-an oy, complicated show lore + complicated game mechanics = headache post
-another mechanics post
-a big long post where he hands out some civ reads but comes up empty on suspicions

Then there is the post where he says he finds it hard to take IAWY seriously without explaining what that means. Does he think IAWY is bad or just acting differently?

Then a "don't call me a slacker" kind of post responding to my LRD vibe pickup. He says he's trying but it's hard but he's not very good at the whole forming baddie reads.

Then he takes two posts to help DrWilgy sort out what thoughts were about IAWY to help him better understand the situation he's walking into. Helpful for Wilgy but not the big picture.

He says he thinks LC might be trying to get lynched (agreeing with SVS) but that LC's sortie hijack makes him as unhelpful civvie at best and mafia at worst.

He votes Long Con Day 2 for "reasons already stated" but his prior post didn't even label LC as suspicious. He just viewed him as a liability to the civvies. The way he worded it is shady because, rather than restate his reasons, he puts it on the reader to go back and find his reasons on their own. Because, you know, it's easy to remember the mild suspicions of a quietish player in a game with 2,500 posts.

When Silverwolf presses him for justification of his vote during Night 2, he finds a handful of detailed points that made it a reasonable choice for him. Where was all this info when he cast his vote? Nowhere. When he voted, he said "reasons already stated," which alluded to a post that only covered maybe two out of the five points he unloaded at night.

Then you've got a bunch of empty banter and trying to pitch in with the sorties overnight and into Day 3.

Later there is a post where he agrees with JJJ, calls a few people civ, and throwing shade at Sokoth without committing to calling him sus. Then a post defending sig, a post clarifying his stance on mechanics, and a post where he thinks something JJJ proves his point about either sig or mechanics (I'm not sure which).

He apologizes to LC for his vote and lists a few players he thinks LC is wrong about. Finally he chastises Sokoth for finally forming some opinions because Sokoth takes aim at Glorfindel for what looks like a hasty "NO U" reaction.

Early on, he sounds like someone trying to figure out game mechanics but he focuses solely on Toaster mechanics. There's the complete lack of calling anyone suspicious three days into the game. Fluff banter to look helpful and pad that post count too.

Any one of these on their own would seem harmless but all three of them combined sets off alarms in my brain. Asking questions and discussing no -suspicion related issues without the willingness to put some skin in the game just feels wrong.

Does any of this sound reasonable or am I working up another Keyser Soze?

What does "time to vote" mean? We have seven hours left. Also, speaking of not contributing, you have made three posts on this Day. :evileye:
Just time for me. I felt like voting now.

Despite my low post count, I have still yet to see Wilgy read anyone or try to get some ground in this game. I feel like he is flying low on purpose, and I expect a replacement player to start questioning and engaging in discussion. I think its weird for a replacement to enter a game and then do practically nothing.
And what about the handful of players who have been doing practically nothing since Day 1? Don't get me wrong, The BOTD will expire for Wilgy soon enough, but why focus on him when others have been doing the same for even longer?

I'm going out to mow. I'll finish my hunch on Glorf after dinner.

Aw crapweasels, we missed it. And I see JJJ may have flubbed his too.

HOST: are sortie calls due at exactly six-hour intervals or must they simply be at least six hours apart?

I guess we'll find out if we get results for JJJ's sortie. This feels like it shouldn't be such a difficult thing to keep track of. :sigh:

Although I still have her on my Possible Civvie list, S~V~S is hanging onto that spot by a thread. She gave me good vibes because of the pressure she put on me early because it felt the same as in Spirited Away. In that game though, she kept the pressure on me beyond my first set of reads. There hasn't been the same kind of follow-up this time but I'm also not posting in haikus like I did during Spirited Away.

I saw some of your posts and maybe someone else's touching on her earlier. Since she was on my Possible Civvie list at the time, the issue of her wasn't on my radar. Can you give me a post or two to use as a starting point? I'll try to look her over once I finish my hunch on Glorfindel.

A formal ranking of last night's list is as follows:

1. Glorfindel
2. SokothQultuq
3. DFaraday
4. Spacedaisy
5. Sig
6. Long Con
7. Metalmarsh89
8. LoRab

I'm ready to put pressure on some of the quieter players because it's too easy in a full game to get a couple days in without giving many independent reads. Low posters and those who mostly agree or disagree with the opinions of others for too many days in a row ping me.

I'll go into more detail on Glorfindel in a little bit. I think there are a few things there that don't add up. I'm still mulling over SD's follow-up posts to her pouty reaction during late Day 2/Night 2. It feels like low-hanging fruit but low-hanging fruit is sometimes fresh.

I'll have to ISO sig to help confirm a few things in my notes. LC and MM are both long-term studies that give me headaches. LoRab is still on there because her recovery-mode posts aren't quite enough to squash my auto-sus of her after the posts that made some people see a possible Nutella connection.

LoRab is still high sus due to my default sus of her. LC and MM both feel like they're up to something. Sig got strange Day 2. Otherwise, the rest are giving me Lazy Rotten Deborah vibes. Sokoth needs to start producing.

As mentioned earlier, we don't know that his sortie was accepted. If we get results for it, then we'll know and we can schedule future sorties based on that. Hopefully we get confirmation well before the next one is due.

I realize it's the weekend and all but where is everyone? We had something like 1,000 posts over mothers day weekend, so why is a non-holiday weekend so quiet?

But he doesn't say outright that we're back on the normal schedule nor does he say that Scotty's sortie was accepted.. Does our sortie schedule run every six hours from the night post or every six hours as a set time like it had been before? If we're back to the previous time schedule, then we missed another one. The original schedule had us going 5:49 and 11:49.

Host: can you tell us if Scotty's sortie was accepted? If it wasn't, how early or late was he?

We need to get this figured out in case not all of the Toasters are vulnerable yet.

Off the top of my head, my top three suspects today are Glorfindel, Sokoth, and Spacedaisy. I have to read back through SD's big posts to see if what she had to say pulls her into a neutral read. Sokoth needs to start asserting himself and coming up with suspects. It's Day 3. The new player benefit of the doubt is officially over.

Linki: sounds good Epi. If our host straightens us out on the timeline, then we'll tweak your time here and there. I'll be at a birthday party tonight, so the earliest I could take one might be mid-day or evening on Sunday.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Two

Awful period for the Penguins. Nothing seems to be clicking despite that goal.

Back to the votes. Long Con gets out to a 2-goal lead and then Matt votes Zebra. The next two votes come in for Nutella (SVS and SW respectively). All of a sudden we've got ourselves a fairly clear three-horse race.

The votes that look strangest from here on out based purely by looking at the vote order are:

#11- sig votes sideways for a Epi who hadn't picked up any votes because he was or seemed unlynchable with the rezz ships in play.

#12- Long Con doesn't vote to help himself but rather votes for sig. I'll have to check my spreadsheet for his reasonging (i'm on my smartphone and only took picks of my vote tracking) but I think it had something to do with sig voting for Epi. In fairness, sig's vote was weird.

#14- Scotty's vote could look like a bus attempt to help put Nutella well into the lead but I'll have to check my notes for his reasoning.

#15- Bea casts a sideways vote for LoRab. It's in the middle of the pack and maybe she assumed the Nutella train was going to run away with it. Timing wise and big picture wise, it does stand out a little.

#18- Polo casts a mid-to-late sideways vote for a self-voter that no one is paying attention to.

#19- SD's vote could do one of two things. It either brings Long Con within one vote of Nutella to play up momentum on that train or it's designed to put the kibosh on any Zebra train momentum after Rico's vote there. Or it could be both. Either way, it is notable especially given her tone.

#22- JJJ ties this race up. Always a gutsy call to create a tie so late into the voting.

#23- DF votes for Zebra. An attempt to reignite that alternative or just avoiding breaking the tie?

#26- Glorfindel votes last and bring LC within one, opening the reults up to shenanigans if certain roles are in play.

That's a lot of potential votes to examine and it's just my opinion. I need to look at my notes for vote reasons and other sus lines. I'd do it now but hockey.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Two

A look at the first two days of voting is in order now that the first period of the hockey game is over.

Having torn a knee ligament before, I'm pretty sure the Tampa goalie popped one. That hurt to watch.

Votes were spread way out on Day 1, making it hard to look for shady votes without forcing a read. Six people picked up votes before anyone got a second. By the time we got to vote # 11, there were nine players with votes. Coupled with the fact that seven people missed the vote (possibly a punishment?) and two people failed to place their in-thread votes correctly, Day 1 was missing almost a full third of all possible votes. Finding anything in Day 1 is going to be hard but the second half of the votes will probably be more telling in the near term. That may require ISO'ing some of those players around their votes.

Day 2 is by far easier to parse but even then it may be too early to lean too heavily on vote analysis even though we flipped two Cylons. Once again, we start out with a spread, this time five votes for five different people. The oddball of the bunch being Vomp's self-vote.

The game is back on. I'll finish this during the next intermission.

I'm trying not to get too wrapped up in it just yet, as three days of vote data is my gold standard. As long as I don't die tonight or get lynched tomorrow, you can bank on some technicolor vote analysis come Night 3.

Number One, Cavil, "boxed" number 7 at some point before the series started. Being "boxed" is the closest thing a Cylon can get to death without actually dying...they are basically "turned off".

That would take time to get used to if I ever watch the series because I'm used to the actor as the hologram guy from Quantum Leap. Kind of like how the nerdy dad from Malcolm in the Middle became the evil dude on Breaking Bad.

Awesome result! But I'm confused (and bear with me if I'm repeating anything that's already been discussed, I'll be catching up throughout the day). Nutella died as a Toaster instead of being rezzed like Epi. If we're still hunting rezz ships, why did Nutella die? I had wondered earlier about the possibility that some Toaster models are linked with a certain rezz ship (assuming that Golden the Coward ;) isn't just trolling us by allowing the grid search to continue needlessly).

Looking at the roles, Epi flipped as...
Sharon ‘Athena’ Agathon (number eight)
...and Nutella flipped as...
Simon O’Neill (number four)
Different colors, different locations, different lynch results? I can't remember what color goes with which location. Can someone refresh my memory please?

What's missing is independent thought and any mention of his own suspicions. That's almost exactly what Debra did in Biblical Mafia, hence the term Lazy Rotten Debra.

Your points are noted. I'll consider making him an ISO priority.

There's a "Debra" in the Bible?

Ah, yes. Deborah, not Debra. Sorry. Lazy Rotten Deborah. See? The experience of her in that game traumatized me so much that the correct pronunciation of her name has been stricken from my memory.
Am I losing my mind? Correct spelling, not pronunciation. :disappoint:

Is there anything specific on Metalmarsh that gives you pause?
JaggedJimmyJay wrote:I'd be interested in hearing your beefs with Metalmarsh89 and Glorfindel to round out your top four, since I've already examined the other two thoroughly.
A lot of my issues with Metalmarsh revolve around his lack of substance. I've been noting page #'s on my notes spreadsheet, so the information below relates to page #'s in the thread (assuming a thread set to 40 posts per page).

He starts out Day 1 with his usual silliness. Maybe it's because I was just in a game he hosted (hence he was a little more serious) that has me thrown off but his silliness seemed to run on too long. His early vote was odd and on page 15 he was asking some very easily answered questions and then more goofiness. More fluff and snark until page 29. That's when I first note him saying anything that I deemed useful. He was cautioning listening to what Epi was saying. This is after the lynch mind you. That means he coasted through Day 1 on a whimsical flying snark machine. :suspish:

Some other things he said seemed off. He didn't believe that some Toasters could be civ-aligned, which makes a lot of sense for a complex game based on what seems to be a complex show. On top of it all, Golden the Coward ;) speficially mentions that wincons are secret. His skepticism of the checkerboard grid plan was palatable to a point- Drum could have suggested that grid plot because it would miss the rezz ship(s) but it wasn't so sneaky at all. I also grew tired of him by page 37 because it seemed like he was content to just troll Ika rather than keep the game rolling forward.

I have very little on him during Day 2 just yet. All in all, he coasted, he poked, he shrugged, and he called it a day. I didn't see much helpful content and the whole sum of it makes me give him a hard sideways glance.
Hey MM, come defend yourself.

G-Man, how about Glorfindel?
Ahem.

indiglo wrote:@ G-Man - Good notes, thanks for sharing those. I don't remember MM's playstyle at all (assuming we've played together much, which I don't remember either, how sad) so is this pretty typical for MM? Or is he usually a more serious player?
A few months have passed since I last played a game with him openly (was he in EST Heist?) and I'm bad at tracking metas. I know he's goofy but I'm feeling disarmed by him so far.
