Excellent, both the nominee and the backup. This should be fun to watch.

I don't think their 4:1 ratio is ideal for all-vanilla though. I have looked into it a lot with the intent of hosting one eventually, and that ratio, friendly as it may look in most setups, is still mafia-slanted in a mountainous setup. I saw a statistic from mafiascum indicating that 11 vs. 2 mountainous was still won by town less than 40% of the time.

The effort and competitive spirit of the games might equalize them a bit.

I'm pretty sure it's my favorite setup and I have never actually played in one.

Well, there was one RYM game where everyone was vanilla, but it also had no vote changes. That's an enormous mafia advantage and my mafia team cruised.

This is Epi's second time submitting himself for the tournament. He has been a fixture here for a long time. Nobody is going to tell me with a straight face that he isn't a great Mafia player. It's time.

That's no slight on our other nominees. As I said before: the play is strong here, and you guys would do a great job.

If anyone is concerned that they might not hold up in such a competitive environment for whatever reason, let me offer some reassurance:

The Syndicate has forged itself as a center for some intense brands of Mafia, and the player base here has become extremely skilled through competition with itself. The number of good Mafia players around here is something I know I'm proud of, and they come from all over the place. At this point there aren't many game styles we haven't seen yet, and the recharged civilian push over the last year or so is perfect to prepare anyone here for a mountainous setup. We are hunters here, and we are deceivers. We have to be, both from our experience playing without infodumping and also our foray into vanilla-heavy heist games.

I would pit the regulars here against anyone with confidence. It doesn't have to be any great pressure either -- no matter where you're playing and with whom, it's still a game meant for fun. If you play your own way, however you feel comfortable, you have as good a chance as anyone.

Hey good call, I'd forgotten about that. It would be the easiest game to host of all time since nobody has night actions and all voting is 100% straight-forward. I don't know what all extra rules they have in mind (i.e. closed night phases, hammer or no hammer, etc), but with that information it could certainly be done.

I had the privilege last year and would happily defer to anyone else who wants to try such a thing.

I'm thinking of converting one of the heists I have queued into a mountainous setup. I want to see how that goes here.

As I said in the other thread, I am very glad they're going to a mountainous setup this year -- everyone is vanilla. That is the best way to measure the core elements of Mafia (investigation and deception) without giving anyone an advantage/disadvantage inherent to a specialized role. I have a feeling that will lead to even more activity in the game threads, since that will be the only place any information can be gleaned. I am looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Apparently I'm eligible this time then? I'll still step out. I already had my fun, I want to see someone else do it. My burnout is too much anyway.

He and Sloonei both made the finals, on opposing sides (Golden town, Sloonei mafia). Sloonei had to replace out due to being too busy. Golden and the town won the game convincingly.

Actually I believe all former finalists are out, meaning you, Golden, and I are ineligible -- though we can be on the judgment panel if it still works that way.
