I think that nutella looks to be earnestly trying to solve the game. I don't care about campaigning to get the gun. I think that's a task left to other people. The player most likely to get the gun, and in my mind the player working the hardest to get the gun, is the one who puts in the most transparent civilian effort to solve the game. nutella is on the short list of people who I feel qualify for that decision.

I feel like boo is projecting a supposed strategy onto her. I don't think the route he is proposing is the only way a player can go about earning credibility in this game.

Because being directly responsible for killing a civ is never a good look.

It is Day 1, and any player that gets the gun is going to be getting it because they are generally trusted by a majority. Being wrong and shooting the wrong person, especially on Day 1, is not a death sentence for anybody. It's a losing strategy for the mafia team to hide from that. I would not expect certain players to pursue that route. nutella is among them.

I don't get why we are assuming that the mafia team does not want the gun.

I liked leetic's initial vote, honestly. It didn't register as too serious, and I took it as nothing more than an effort to infuse some life into the thread. He succeeded at that, albeit indirectly. I don't fault him for not responding to ensuing kerfuffle. I think he's just not here right now.

It's fine to tell me that I'm misreading things. But it doesn't mean anything if you can't tell me why that's the case. So far I've just been trying to get you to follow up on things that you have already said, but your response has been "I didn't say that."
Because people were saying that what you did was a bad thing and I disagreed. So I voiced my disagreement.

I wasn't trying to imply that. What I meant is that I don't care if you consider what I did to be a defense. I've played a lot of games where someone always suspected me cause I would defend players and I disagree with mentality that defense = buddying = scum. So if you're going to call what I did as a defense to say that in scum for it then do that. I don't care and it won't stop me from defending players in the future.

These are just a few posts from very early on in that game. The tone was consistent throughout.
I suppose it's not so much that she avoided reads, but she definitely gave off a very carefree attitude. She didn't seem to be bothered by the few pushes on her and wasn't gonna let people bully her into playing the game any way other than the way she wanted. The fourth post down comes to mind in particular.

johann i'ma have to respectfully disagree with this strategy. i guess wagonomics is way different on this site than what i'm used to, but just agreeing to kill off suspects without using flips to develop our reads isn't the best way to go about things imo. nor is it the best for the person getting a gun to straigh-up follow town consensus-- that never goes well from what i've seen. let people do their thing; try hard to pick the right person to get the gun

also, self-killing: actually never.

These are somewhat cherrypicked posts, but the tone in all of them doesn't quite resonate as the same style of player that I saw in AC. That could be nothing. Moods vary, not all games are the same, etc. But her response when I poked at this didn't inspire confidence:

She doesn't deny or it tell me I'm wrong or anything of the sort. She just asks me to explain it some more and then transitions into some reflection on her position in the game. Maybe I should have gone back to see how she handled suspicion in the previous game, but I don't think it was like this. This has the look of a player who feels like they're being caught.

No, I'm not seeing what you're seeing with boo. But I believe you when you say you are seeing it, and that's what I care about. The day is young, we'll all develop our reads as we go.

I scum read funnygurl specifically because she does not look how she did in Assassin’s Creed.

She was mostly a town read for me in that game. I wavered because of unfamiliarity a few times, but she was never a suspect for any prolonged stretch of time.

i don't like focusing on myself so much but the fact that so many people are incorrectly reading me despite having a better handle of my play in past games is leading me to believe that there's a considerable proportion of wolves within the people who've already said stuff

Because in Assassin’s Creed you were easy breezy loosey goosey and let the game comd to you at whatever pace it may. You were open about your lack of reads early on. This game it feels more like you’re making a deliberate effort to promote reads. It’s a contrast to what made you a firm town read in your previous incarnation.

I really don’t feel like this format produces any wrinkles in scum hunting. The new curiousity is that it forces us to trust somebody.
