Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms [Day 5]

I don't have lots of time today, but I'm just gonna put these statements out there:

-I think Quin is bad. I may or may not have time to form a case on him, but this is based on mostly tone.
-LoRab looks good this game.
-I don't buy TH's rebuttal after being silenced, nor do I understand why we dropped that case entirely. He can be very articulate when he wants to be, and comments like he has made such as [paraphrasing] 'I play this way because I'm trying to play a specific game' is raising my alarms. I may or may not be voting for him this phase.
-I don't feel like CapsFan warranted any votes yesterday or the day before. Volunteering for a battle and then chickening does not a baddie make.
-I think killing Soneji, who has made no appearance this game, is a VERY odd choice. I think there are several people in this game that would kill an inactive to increase the challenge. Because that must be what that is, right? A challenge? There is no other rational explanation for Soneji dying last night. That only helps the civs. Whoooo would do that as bad?

Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms [Day 5]

I'm not fully caught up. I seem to have been *ahem* absent all of day 3.

I was completely convinced MP was town, so GG those that voted him. Like he was my #1 town read, but now it makes sense why he asked for a replacement and then decided to stick it out. Too much fun being a baddie, eh MP??
And GG Russ, our two-time champion. Just don't be two-timing us, eh?

Anyone have any questions for me? I followed a bit on day 3, but didn't get through all of it.

A baddie would have no issue throwing darts at everyone, whether landing on civ or indy, as long as it doesn't backfires at him (apart from, in extremis, bussing a teammate). An indy, technically, could be in murkier waters and try to tread more carefully. His D1 votes look pretty weaksauce (DF, DP). Then on D2 he locks on significant counter-wagons, at a bad timing, according to my chart - which looks more committed and relevant, but isn't an improvement, I'd say.

linki: right there, Mac. To paraphrase: Wilgy would concoct WIFOM for MM. MM would concoct WIFOM for TH.
Surely Marmot wouldn't double down on his teammate though. That would be epic dumb. Would be giving him concrete boots.

This is the type of thing that MM would do though: "he wouldn't do that"

Ricochet wrote:If the general feel is to make out of Day 3 a test lynch, I could go with pitting TH and Caps.

Otherwise, I find that nominating TH strictly for WIFOM is a slight gamble (then again, about as much as pinning MM was, for the same reason) and nominating Caps for his lynch-me posts is a big gamble - seriously, Caps, do NOT express resignation if you are civilian, we are not the kind to prioritise "clean-up lynch" as a mindset and it would be detrimental to our hunt.

If sig will post by the end of the day (which he should, unless he's incapacitated), then nominating TH would be a gamble for rolling Turban or indy, because otherwise it'd make little sense for him to be Nanman if he was incapacitated - and I really see no better targets, among active players.

Off the top of my head, I'd pursue a timmer lynch right now: his vote, his DIY-like rebuttal which left me pretty meh, his possible connection via MM's own vote tactic. I don't know if I have clear second choice yet. I should still revisit players that are read baddie, like DFaraday (since Dom insists) or Boomslang (since DDL has a particular badread on him).
TH, to me, is not suspicious strictly for the WIFOM. Yes, that could be dangerous indeed. Though to an extent, that's what MM was- a hunch based around WIFOM.

I'm going to vote him because he refused to answer my question. Could he be incapacitated today since he hasn't posted (to my knowledge)? Maybe. But if he survives this lynch he can take a nice bath and tell us all about it tomorrow.

I'm voting INH and TH like I said previously.

I was going back looking at MM's votes during his somewhat limited time with us and would like to make the following observations:

Day 1: MM's votes for Day 1 were on: Dr Wilgy (21) and Turnip Head (22). I obviously don't know MM as well as most of you but is it really THAT likely that he would've voted for TWO of his Nanman team mates on Day 1  From an outsider's perspective, I should think it somewhat unlikely - which on balance is a better look for TH. I'm happy to reconsider this if anyone would like to offer an alternate opinion.

Day 2: MM was the last to cast his votes for Dom (54) and Russtifinko (55). Prior to placing his votes, Russ was 'runner-up' wagon on 7 votes. The next highest wagon was timmer on 6 votes. So assuming MM's vote was a 'hail Mary' self preservation vote, wouldn't it have been more logical for him to have voted the next highest wagons (Russ and timmer) than to place his vote on Dom? Admittedly, timmer's last vote (6) was made immediately before MM's (by Nutella) but I wonder what conclusions could be drawn from that? The vote for Dom was on a slow burn from the beginning of the Day phase (starting on vote (5) and followed by votes (9), (13), (23) and (43). In comparison, timmer's vote was meteoric - picking up 6 votes in a matter of hours (votes (26), (31), (33), (41), (48) and (53). If self preservation were his goal, I'd have thought MM would've voted timmer before Dom
I could totally see MM voting for 2 teammates for prefect just for the shits and giggles, mixed in with a dose of WIFOM. This makes me more suspicious of TH, TBQH.

And good pick up and analysis on day 2. Timmer might get my second vote. TH is likely getting my first.
Sloonei wrote:anyone can answer that question, it's not just for rico.
Day 1: Scotty and Wigly dueled, Scotty won. Wilgy was Ahuinan
Night 1: No death
Day 2: Russ and MM dueled, Russ won. MM was Dong Tu Na
Night 2: Yellow Turbans killed SVS. Nanman killed JJJ

And, based on your questioning in the thread, I'm guessing that you don't have BTSC, which makes you likely civ (indy is possible, but there are more civs than indies). I mean, a baddie could replace in and fake the questioning, but I don't think many would take the time, and that's not how I've seen baddies act when they replace in (or how I've acted when I've replaced in as a baddie). So, I'm feeling good about you for the moment.

No sign of lynch shenanigans, so it's probably the first sentence.
Who are all the dead players and how did they come to be that way?
Wilgy tied with me 5-5 on day 1, where votes piled on us in the last 30 minutes for various random reasons. Wilgy's last post said something to the effect of: "we talked about LoRab in BTSC, MM" throwing some glorious WIFOM before he was lynched. No one was killed on night 1, for some reason. I think the common belief is that there were powers at play, and not inactivity (at least from MM's baddie camp, since we know Mm was active). Though there's really no way to know.

Day 2, MM did a terrible job of defending his votes, and the Wilgy WIFOM was too juicy, so we pitted him with Russ (Dom almost was sent to battle). He was lynched, and was on Wilgy's baddie team.
Last night, SVS and JJJ were killed, so I would assume both teams woke up and killed. JJJ was a big contributor to the thread (I was leaning civ) and makes sense as a kill I guess. SVS had one post detailing she didn't have working Internet. So that was an odd "mercy" kill I suspect.

INH I've been callin out for being actively campaigning for a responsibility in day 1, and then after winning the election, disappeared. He then reappeared yesterday briefly apologizing for his absence and saying he was ready to play. And then...nothing. So, ok then.
TH has been skating around me all game. He voted for me on day 1 for reasons that didn't exactly have a rooted reason. I have asked him point blank multiple times whether he thinks I am bad, and he has either ignored it or shrugged it off on purpose. He's been overly unenthusiastic in solving the game from the normal Civ-minded TH I remember and compounded with MM implicating him IMO in the WIFOM guacamole, I think he is one of them yellow turbans

I'm slightly confused of the killing of SVS. I understood JJJ for sure, and I'm sorry to see him go. Then there were 2 prefects. Some would even say INH doesn't exist since he hasn't been here since the Cretaceous period but I digress.

MovingPictures07 wrote:See, the problem with that for me anyway is that Dom is pointing out a trend with Bass that I, without actual in-depth analysis, have noticed as well. Bass did have a string of games where he posted quite a bit early on and then trailed off with respect to activity, and regardless of whether that was true, he consistently did seem to be less posty when he was bad, much more so than trends with other players. Do I think that's even remotely foolproof though? No. I wouldn't be caught dead using that as a solid reason to think Bass is bad.

But you've touched on something about Dom's play, Scotty, that I've started to notice too as I'm getting into the beginning of Day 2 and thinking on his Day 1 stuff. He's definitely throwing around a lot of suspicion (DF, JJJ, Bass, from what I've seen and can recall so far), and doing so in a fairly assertive matter (though that could be due to the gimmick), but on the basis of little, dubious, or nonexistent claims and reasons. I'm starting to understand that the thread isn't exactly teeming with information by which to judge other individuals and we have to start somewhere though, and I wouldn't say this is out of character for Dom. I don't feel like it's inherently suspicious because I don't understand the motivation that a mafia Dom would have to behave in this way. It's unnecessarily risky. And GTH I'm reading Dom's posts as genuine, even in the presence of the Trump gimmick.
Do you have any knowledge of the last time Dom was bad? I can't remember, and usually don't like using meta examples, but the "out of character" thing is striking, because this is not the same type of Dom I remember playing with. This is like G-Man level gimmicks, where usually I see him as a pit bull that just got a bad haircut. Clipped, short responses, and getting dirty with people.

I can't read him behind the gimmick, but I'm not voting him primarily for the gimmick more than his lack of intention in voting day 1. If you're gonna pull a timmer and rando, then at least rando. He listed DF (and Bass as potential suspicious if he remained UTR) but voted me and JJJ. His post-explanation was as contrived as I expected, and I don't feel bad in voting him right now.

Our 3rd prefect, INH, hasn't checked in since he won the title, and I would highly consider voting there if I had a 3rd vote

As a prefect, I would expect my peer to want to at least participate after putting up such a lukewarm campaign as is

Speaking of Russ:

Russ, it'd be groovy if you could talk to me about my Day 1 case against you. It's a new day and I am not one to cling to old material, but I need inspiration to change my mind. Let's chat. We've already talked some about the first point, so please focus on the other two.
Did Russ respond to this?
I don't believe so.
:sigh:

It may just be that I'm still not fully caught up, so correct me if I'm wrong, but for a d1 baddie lynch and 835 posts in the thread, it seems the thread is in a stasis chamber.

Can someone help me out with the Dom stuff? Is that in Day 2? Maybe I'll CTRL+F these pages for "Dom". I don't see anything compelling on MM or Russ, especially when considering the sheer amount of players who didn't vote yesterday and didn't interact with Wilgy, so I'm a bit alarmed at the current vote tally with less than 5 hours until EoD.
Here's my take on it and why I voted him out the gate:
Spoiler: show
Scotty wrote:As one of your prefects and reigning champion, I would like a word with everyone that voted for me. :suspish:

I really wanted to quote posts and have shit saved in drafts right after the lynch, but we can't do that when the thread is locked, so I wrote it in my head. The ink didn't dry, and now I'm an inkwell.

It's hard to see that lynch as a save opportunity for Wilgy, if he was saved at all. Those votes came pretty fast. He was, after all, a warrior, who had a pretty good chance of defeating the average bear.

But I'm yo prefect, so simma down.

I understand some of the votes for me:
-I got TH's reasoning, even though I don't agree with it.
-Nutella had a long winded explanation of her vote for me, disliking my oversight of voting DF even though he had posted. Meh. Not the most solid reason, but it's day 1, and it's a ping she followed through with, talking about it before Wilgy was in danger. She agreed with me that INH needed to show up, and brought up that Wilgy hadn't been around in a while. So she agrees with my concern that INH hasn't been around, but votes me anyway, followed by voting Wilgy for...not showing up. I mean, the fact that she voted for Wilgy at all makes me want to believe she's not on his team. If she's bad, I'd expect it on the Yelow Turbans.
-Bubbles. Um. Votes me and JJJ because she wanted to see a duel between us. In other words, she voted us because she wanted to vote us. In other words, she put the milk in the pantry because she wanted to put the milk in the pantry. I strongly dislike this vote/explanation. If there was a Wilgy save going on, this would add up. She put JJJ ahead with 4 votes, and me right behind with 3. Wilgy had 2 at this point in time, tied with a bunch of people.
-Domald voted for me and JJJ. Let's see what he had to say about suspicions:
Dom wrote:
DFaraday wrote:I'm not liking Dom's rationale regarding Bass. Since Bass is generally a low poster, that feels like Dom is setting up an easy excuse for voting down the road.

Also Sorsha wanting to vote prefects sounds like a bad idea to me. I get the impression that prefects have important abilities or something, so why would we want to put them up to lynch right away?
And there's this DFaraday guy. This DFaraday guy-- he's just... well.. do I have to say it? He's not good. No good at all. Lies and twisting the fact like the crooked media. Rooting against me.

Listen folks, Bass better stay active. Otherwise he's saying empty promises and looking to be ignored. That's just despicable. We, as a game, cannot let him get away with this, folks.

(c) Paid for by Dom/NJU 2016.
Wait, that's funny. It looks like he meant to vote DF and Bass, but accidentally voted for me and JJJ. Whoops, must be some mistake. Because I just reread all his posts multiple times, and the only time he expressed any sort of sentiment toward me is when I criticized his posting gimmick and he called me "sad". He doesn't really mention JJJ as far as I can tell.

So...why did he vote for me? Or JJJ for that matter. I REALLY don't like Dom's vote.

-my first vote was Bass, who said most of my posts were filler posts and campaigning posts, which is fair. I did have a lot of those. Such is my day 1. He voted for MM for similar reasons, so I'm not gonna jump on him for this vote. Makes sense, and was reasoned. I don't think he looks as suspicious for that.

Dom and Bubbles are my top priorities today. I will most likely be voting there.

Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms [Day 2]

I'm also going to remind everybody that even when someone looks like they're actively attempting to look for baddies that in a game with multiple baddie teams, even baddies will be doing this. And just because someone leads a charge against a baddie, that doesn't validate them as civ.

I'm having lots of trouble reading people in this game because I feel like everyone is bad to an extent. It's like, Wilgy is dead but there's still 6 more baddies, 3 independents, and we still need to outnumber other civ factions to win. It's kinda a crapshoot, which is what The game of Mafia is, but I must warn people that civ labels should be used sparingly, since 1/3 of the players are not civ, and over 2/3 aren't even on the same civ team.

And I think once I get to the end of Day 1 I'm going to take a break to work again for a couple of hours, and then come back and try to catch up.
I might be a bit biased since I mostly targeted people on my train, since I find it highly likely that at least 1 Mafia member jumped on that.

Check out my 2nd post of day 2.

Again, I might be biased but I think there is something there. Compounded with the lack of defense that both MM and Dom have brought forth after the fact, I'm fine with both of them leading lynches right now.

It's very hard to judge team compatability with multiple teams, but gotta start somewhere

Yeah, you know, I'm just gonna lock this in: I'm definitely voting for Domald.

For my second vote, I've been stewing it over and am fine with voting MM. Wilgy's last remark about talking to MM in BTSC is something both of them would do as bad. I know MM would because in a game we played over in Bulba he outright said something like "I am totes bad lol" and I called his bluff to get him lynched day one, and we was indeed bad.

Plus he seems intent on becoming a gladiator, so I'll give him the honor he desires.

If I HAD to pick someone, you come to mind as someone I could see myself suspecting down the road. But I would rather keep you around to gauge you better in case you are actually civ.
I have played games with you. Indeed I just played one about phobias in which you pushed the easy button eternally and you were bad. So when you do it here you can expect to hear about it.

What do you mean "you could see yourself suspecting me down the road"? Am I suspicious now to some degree?
I play the "easy button" on day 1 regardless of my alignment. This is a terrible way to gauge my badness.
This stemmed from perpetually getting lynched on day 1 or getting NK'd night 1. It's in one part survival strategy in these awful 'must-lynch-someone' day 1's. The other part is- sometimes inactives can be bad, or laying low. Sometimes they can be good. Which sucks, but in the scheme of things, it could be worse, like eliminating someone that is actively contributing to the thread.

As for suspecting you- I don't really right now. I think you have been pacing yourself this phase, and are rather cautious in your reads. But you haven't voted so who knows what you're really thinking. So down the line, I'll have a better idea of your thinking and motivations. Right now, you're just a pair of clown shoes waiting to be put on.
