I find it either insanely paranoid of you though, or manipulative, that you think literally every player going after you during Day 1 was being manipulative. I think if you take a step back and try to re-examine the criticisms against you, you should find at least one person coming at you from an inquisitive and genuine angle, because I at least know that's what I was doing.
What are you still lost about?

I might be paranoid, yes. But all the voters on the INH wagon were grilling me while I was away and were on my back for one reason or another. Of course I'm gonna be paranoid.

I have taken a step back, and that was before the post I made an hour ago.

I don't think every player was being manipulative. People will see what they want to see. But it would be foolish from my part to lay down and think that they are all good, including you.

That Golden is still hung up on me could be a VERY CIV THING to do. But I'm still torn at this point. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt. I really do.

Golden wrote:I don't really have time to do a full catch up, just enough to see that (I assume) inh was good.

I don't much like the epi votes. Except maybe trice's one.

I also really don't like scotty basically being like 'told you guys'. Calling your shot on someone being civilian is the easiest thing to do in the world since a) most people are and b) all baddies have an even higher percentage shot of being right (in this case 15/16); but

c) bragging about it afterwards is the equivalent of discrediting a load of people, even when at least half of them are town, and d) not only does it discredit, but it also puts the focus squarely on 'who voted for a civilian to die' instead of 'who is bad' which are not necessarily the same thing.

I'll be all for looking to see if any inh votes are uninspired. But when I last looked, there were four and all of them felt fair and well explained in the thread to me.
What??! How is "well there ya go" in any way "I told you guys"? How is that bragging about it? Show me where I bragged about you all being wrong.

Now you're just putting words in my mouth and manipulating this away from you and the other INH voters so you don't have to take responsibility for your votes. Yes, civs make the wrong votes all the time. Of course they do. But I already feel like you, JJJ, Sloonei and Mp have all come after me on day 1 for bullsuit reasons and I find it manipulative. Couple that with the fact that I don't trust you guys, makes me think at least 1 or a couple of you might be bad. Just because I haven't had a tennis match where I've spewed 5028 posts in the matter of 24 hours doesn't mean I can't make reads off of votes.

I didn't know INH was gonna flip good, but I definitely didn't think he would flip bad. So get off your high horse, golden.

You made a series of posts back in 1996 (aka the first few pages of this game) where you expressed your lack of confidence in calling out people for being bad so you instead would resort to calling people good.

Anyone can call anyone good. You may be an idiot savant with calling people good correctly more often, but this isn't alignment indicative and I feel like it's an easy cop out for scum hunting.

Not to say you aren't scumhunting, but that pinged me hard.
Does not compute.

Both the orange statements and yellow statements seem contradictory within colors. Try me again.
Ah I see what you mean- yep that was a stream of consciousness post that made sense when I wrote it. What I meant was that it wasn't a good example of being civ. I thought I was clear at the time but I can see where you might have thought I was changing my opinions in the same breath. Does that clear things up for you?

And Golden: wow. I just read your analysis of my playing personality and found it hilarious, so I shared it with my girlfriend. Her response? "I don't care, get this out of my face" hahahaha what s kidder I love her.

I do not believe scotty didn't look at his PM. It's possible he just said he didn't for playful fun, but his tone is not one of playful fun. But Scotty takes his team duty seriously and wouldn't not check in my opinion.

Thats fine. You don't have to believe me, and I would be naive to think you would.i made reads without any context and it was quite freeing. I do take my team duty seriously, but I also don't mean getting civ cred if I call them out early. As soon as Day 1 started, I did look at my role, which, again, you don't have to believe. I didn't check in Psych (not mad max like I thought- thanks for clarifying, JJJ- until somewhere in day 2. This time I figured I wanted to be involved more in the case that I was bad and was pissing off my teammates. Still not bad.

Add to that, I have a tonal issue with scotty. Trice just described him as 'arrogant', but no, this is not normal scotty. The scotty I'm used to is a town force who maintains a certain level of 'tipping his hat' to everyone else. Arrogance is not something I associate with him in the slightest.

thanks, m'lady! *tips fedora*

What's more, from my perspective, Scotty has a habit of getting himself into early trouble when bad. I don't agree with whoever said he is a 'bullseye', because I don't think scotty gets lynched early very often. But I can recall twice he got himself into early trouble - red vs blue and Lost Again season 1. In each of these games my perception is that he was playing a pretty decent game (and trying to replicate town scotty) but got himself caught up in contradictions.

i also tend to get myself in trouble early when good. I'd be remiss to think I could get through a day 1 without a vote towards me. I think the past few times I got in trouble when bad were circumstantial and not a direct correlation. Just unlucky. My "getting caught up in contradictions" as you say, is just an unfortunate side effect of either posting while commuting or between scenes in my show. I'm actually feeling depressed right now in the sense that I've got a lot of personal things I'm deadline with but still committing to 4 games at once. So sue me if I contradict myself sometimes. If that's suspicious by itself, then lynch me. I've got enough on my plate as is.

The Scotty I see at the start of this game is not a scotty I've seen before. But Scotty has no need to mix up a town game that serves him well. On the other hand, he seems to get caught early as a baddie. My impression is that this 'distant' scotty (my read of what Trice is seeing as slightly arrogant, I think) is his attempt to mix up his baddie game and not get caught.

:rolleyes: you haven't seen this day 0 Scotty before? How absolutely obvious, because I was just a neutral party making reads.

Add to that, he's getting caught in contradictions again.

:sigh:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having said all of that about scotty, my vote for inh was more than a 'no u'. I do apologise for my mini meltdown, but to me there is only so many times that you can criticise everyone else for 'not creating meaningful content' while doing nothing yourself.
Jay pointed out that inh 'described mafia' when criticising what others were doing. I agree.
He does things like call out the sig votes as having 'no thread basis' despite criticising the things people are trying to do to establish a thread basis for their votes.
I see it being very plausible that inh is bad and someone... probably not sig... is taking heat for what inh considers to be bullsuit reasons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm genuinely torn between which to vote for. Scotty is generally the one of these two I find easiest to read long term, and I do feel as though he has lacked opportunity to contribute so far. On the other hand, he seems like the much more likely place to get some sort of vague consensus, which means my vote has a higher chance of relevance.

Woof, im easiest to read long term, am I? Guess I should change it up. :grin:

On the other hand, I find inh potentially much more insidious as I do not really know if he ever creates content, and so I don't know what I would hang him on later if he is bad. I also feel as though inh flipping bad would tell us more than scotty would, because I get the sense inh is old school and that defending teammates by implication on day one is definitely something he would do. But he is much less likely to be lynched.

So, with that dilemma in mind....

I'm going to leave my vote on inh, because I have more conviction about him, and if I happen to get some time in the morning I'll revisit it then.
I think deep down you voted for INH and not me because you know you're throwing mud at me for unsubstantiated reasons and even you don't believe it. INH was still a nothing case, and such is why day 1 lynches are generally hogwash. This little diatribe poses as a criminal breakdown from a warped psychologist. I think I'd leave the doctor stuff to the real Wilgy in this game.

This is our break down, now I haven't read enough to have a read on Boom or Scotty, but if A-person/Lorab/myself is being pursued to get lynched I would look very closely at whoever is trying to set up our lynches since there is no evidence one way or another and lynching a low poster on day one when we already have 15 pages is a good place to throw a day 1 vote if you're mafia.
I find myself agreeing with you and thinking you're civ which means you're probably mafia.

I like these baddies and my own GTH scum team might look similar right now, so that's good. Congratulations Jay, you've broken down my Day 0 as a neutral party. It was an interesting experiment, because yes, I did depart from my normal meta. Except did I really? I haven't committed to voting anyone, and my normal day 1 is going to go after low posters. Nothing new here.
This is less believable to me in this game than it would be in most games because it has become trendy
Oh, has it? I did this in mad max and don't remember anyone doing it recently before that. But I'll be a trendsetter, sure.
I know I can't prove it, but I don't really care to impress you explicitly. Anyway, I looked at my role at the start of Day 1 and can keep this day 0 in my back pocket.

Just skimming through, I have vague notions that MP is probably good. Ironically, I have liked INH's posts- they've had a nice fluidity and logical mindset. But I can't help but think he's being safe with his points---well guarded and fleshed out so as to say "look at me, world! I'm a newspaper and the headline is Me"

Far more interested in bwt, who i have had a hand in killing or voting for in the first day/might cycle several times now. He had some thorough posts up until that post where he posted his strongest convictions which turned out to have as much verve as Gigli. Then he dropped off the face of the earth.

Since votes are changeable, I'm voting there for now. Will see if he comes back in to post stuff about riffraff.

As for my first post of you being bad, JJJ? Meh. Gut read off of an impartial viewer if the first few pages told me you were trying too hard but not hard enough. Wallflowerjng, for jay standards. Which is remarkably saying a lot.

I think that's all of my definitive feelings, or as definitive as this Day 0 is so far.
I'm leaning slightly bad about this post. "If I had to pick one or two," followed by a list of six items, suggests that he's trying to plant multiple ideas into the thread while being overly casual and noncommittal about it. The combination of "Nothing on Dom," "Nothing on Boomslang," and "definitive feelings" is also contradictory, as Scotty pointed out. And again, "as definitive as this Day 0 is so far" is another way to hedge the statement while still inserting the ideas.

Linki: lol 9 pages beg to differ
To be fair, I figured this would start as just a couple of thoughts. But then it turned into a stream-of-consciousness view of the thread so far. So I guess I have stronger/more opinions than I figured I would. Especially given how long it usually takes me to come up with more than just one or two ideas as to what I think is going on.

And yes, that was a very poor and contradictory word choice on my part. I will admit that. But I was just giving MP a response to his question to me and not really thinking about how I was wording it.
You consider "iffy" and "nothing" strong opinions?

That's like me bringing a legless crow home to my gf and telling her I found this dog on the side of the road and his name is Woof Woof.
Actually that analogy is nothing like this circumstance.

I just really want to get a dog named Woof Woof.

Just impressed with the gusto from some people even if it might be mostly hot air. I can't tell much on day 0 and I seriously doubt anybody else can, no matter what they claim. We don't even have a lynch vote today, no night actions have happened, there isn't even a semi-nonsensical day 0 poll like some hosts like to do (MP comes to mind). At best one of the over-enthused paragraphs here will sound funny & gather suspicion - but who is more likely to be theorycrafting and looking for a winning strategy for the civs, goodies or baddies? Baddies benefit more from not directing attention at themselves.

Anyway, if alex is going to be posting his rainbow list here instead of keeping his reads private, it will if nothing else provide fodder for discussion
Which is why I'm personally okay with Day 0 discussions. It has helped me identify and catch baddies later on. Forcing them to be active and post a lot gives more opportunities to read them and more opportunities for them to slip up.
Just popping in for a second here (won't be around for longer than to make this post), but I wanted to inquire something of you, BWT.

You emphasize that you prefer Day 0 discussions like the one we've had in this game because they provide more content by which you can find baddies subsequently. Do you have any even very minor potential leads based on what has already transpired? Or are you merely indicating that revisiting Day 0 once you have subsequent leads may bring more light to whether those reads are more or less accurate? Give me your thought process here and provide a concrete example of a read you've already started developing, if you can.
More the second. Because I'm not really sure how concrete Day 0 reads are in a vacuum and I would need to see enough evidence on that for me to change my mind. I think looking at Day 0 once you hit around Day 3 or 4 can help emphasize those current reads based on past actions or make one reconsider based on said past actions.

It sure sounds like everyone's pretty murky brown to you. Why even mention Dom and Boom if you don't have a read on them?
Because others have voiced opinions on them, and I am just acknowledging that that is out there, but that I currently do not have strong leanings one way or another on those players.
I am currently acknowledging you exist in this game, and that you are probably good or bad.

Not at all. It's a reference to the Super Meat Boy game in which I was a civ with the win condition of getting lynched. It was the perfect role for me, because I seem to be one of the biggest shade magnets on this site. It's easy for MP to throw a gut baddie read at me on Day 0 because baddie reads always seem to stick on me :/

Also I like how Boom and Mp posted something about JJJ not giving enough content and the the next thing is JJJ's retelling of Walden.
Whereas Batman is the hero this city deserves but doesn't need right now, JJJ is the philosopher this thread deserves but doesn't believe right now.

I disliked Boom's entrance but his last little post has me feeling better about him.

That said...and this is probably a stupid question (and I'll probably get flack for it, but whatever). But, uh, are we supposed to be doing anything? There's no poll, but is there any sort of day 0 exercise that I missed? Do we know how we get to day 1 (or night 1, depending on which comes first)?
Hunting for mafia fellow townies. That's what we're supposed to be doing. :srsnod:

But seriously, no Day 0 poll or anything, just check in time... I believe.

I don't feel great about it.
What's wrong with it? I've been clear about implementing POE this game.
Civvie hunting isn't what is bothering me

You made a series of posts back in 1996 (aka the first few pages of this game) where you expressed your lack of confidence in calling out people for being bad so you instead would resort to calling people good.

Anyone can call anyone good. You may be an idiot savant with calling people good correctly more often, but this isn't alignment indicative and I feel like it's an easy cop out for scum hunting.

Not to say you aren't scumhunting, but that pinged me hard.

I made assertions based upon my best understanding of the discussions and that was it. I can't derive a confident read on INH, for example, based upon the point for which MP requested feedback. I said as much. I can provide a tentative lean by meta but little else.

I think the meta you're assigning to me is better associated with a Zebra or a Mac. I may exhibit confidence eventually, but everything is tentative on Day 0. This one especially has been a large portion of strategic debate (I'll accept a share of the blame for that) and check-ins. The capacity for generating meaningful reads out of that is limited.
would you call a bad mac tentative?

Okay. :smile:

Why don't I satisfy your diet?
bc you served a bunch of bull product when you read MP as bad because he's posting a lot.
1. Why are you answering for Scotty?

2. That's an oversimplification of what I did that makes it sound worse than it was. I made a very specific numeral comparison to a game when MP was bad. It's not that he "posted a lot", it's that he utterly obliterated the count lead by a mile. He doesn't always manage quite that. It was something that concerned me in Transistor because I thought it might get him into trouble for being too tryhard. The memory came to me here so I poked him with it. I don't read him as bad. He warrants a little more poking than most other players because he does well to convey "genuine" effort regardless of alignment. I doubt it's the last time I'll poke him.
Why did Dom answer for me? I'm actually curious as well.

I think Dom is bad.
