Thanks again for everyone that continued with the game.

Despite how it looked, mafia could have easily lost in this last phase if some things went differently.

The two biggest things I would have changed in balancing were:
-keeping Scooby’s NK conditional limited to only a phase. I do agree that it’s rather powerful if he’s left alive. I didn’t think he’d be alive this long, nor did I realize how open people would be about their roles and locations, which made his job easier and receiving 2 NKs two nigiri in a row.
-not specifying what the soup specifics were for the town at large. If I had included the mafia needing to match roles to locations, people may have played closer to their chest.

Despite the seemingly impossibly situation that town were put in here on D5, they could have at least mostly secured win last night with optimal decisions.

I must also bring up that there were many circumstances in this game that adversely affected certain decisions and outcomes- almost 1/3 of the players requesting to be subbed out didn’t help the flow. The substitutions were admirable and played fantastically, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that having to bring in substitutions changes the game in subtle ways.
The other part is the typical role madness. There’s bound to be lots of swings. I wouldn’t call this a blowout by any means, even if mafia have been sitting pretty for a while.

If anyone has any questions about other stuff that happened behind the scenes, just let me know and I can fill you in as best I can

*ROLE: You are the talking Great Dane mascot of Mystery Inc. and enjoy fighting crime and eating.*

Sniff: Four times in the game, at night, you use Sniff to copy the potential ability effects of the location the group selects during the night. You do not have to be voting for the location in question. Note that some of these abilities are role-specific and may have no effect for you. This can be blocked.

Also, as long as you are still alive and not compromised, if your team nightkills the monster that corresponds to the location matching that cycle (preceding day), your team will receive an additional night kill to be used the next night. This additional night kill can be either a combined action from one player or spread between two different mafia members.

Soup kill: mafia collectively have access to one Soup Kill to use during the game. This cannot be blocked, and is used in place of the factional nightkill.

Mafia need only connect Roles to the Players AND the respective Locations; deaths will activate in the order they are submitted. Once a combination on the list is incorrect, the soup kill stops, and only previous correctly-guessed players will be killed.

If a player is given Scooby snacks, their ability will take priority over all actions that night, their vote will be worth 2 the next phase, and their shot, if used this phase, will instead not be expended. This does not apply to the factional night kill.

Apply Makeup: Once in the game, at night, you may apply makeup. Doing so allows you to absorb any abilities targeting you that night. Then one of the players that targeted you will become your lover. You will enter into BTSC; if one lover dies, the other will immediately die as well.

EVENT: Stage Whispers

Every player in the first 24 hours may send a message of 5 words or fewer to another player. You may do by putting the intended message and target in your private channel.

However, if a player would be sent a message from an even number of players, they will instead not receive anything.

Any successful message would be delivered at the 24 hour mark.

Day 5: The Backstage Rage




What a creepy house.

It didn’t help that Velma got herself stuck in the swamp while searching for her glasses and just..never came out. This had to be the worst work study program she’s ever been involved with. This swamp had no air conditioning or gift shop. Sure, the gang solved another case, but if they were going to be living in squalor, what would the point be?

Scooby Doo was moping again, talking to a friend that was no longer there in the back of the van. It was quite pitiful, and Marcie offered to be a friend.

“Hey Scooby Doo?” she asked politely, “I know you miss him. But he’s not coming back.”

Scooby jolted his head and gave her that stare- that human-like, blood-shot eyed stare. It chilled Marcie to the bone.

“Raggy is here. He is here. Arways,” he growled, gesturing to his heart.

“You a dog lover, Marcie?” Fred asked from the driver’s seat, looking at her in the rear view mirror.
Marcie shuffled nervously. “Sure, I guess. Dog’s are fine.”

Fred steeled himself. “It’s hard to get involved with a dog. Scooby picked us. You understand? We belong to him.”

‘That’s probably the weirdest way to say you love your pet I’ve ever heard,’ thought Marcie. She looked back to Scooby and he was suddenly extremely close. When had he closed the gap between them in the back? What the crap?

“Roo can be my roo rest rrriend,” he whispered, pushing a box of Scooby Snax into Marcie’s hand.

Then they arrived at the theater.

“Let’s investigate. This one’s for Velma,” Daphne offered.

She couldn’t be sure but Marcie didn’t think this line of work was for her.

Pirate Bounty: Three times during the game, at night and as one action, target 2 players and 1 prize from your list: the first player being your main target, and the second player being their mark. The first player will be told there is a bounty on the mark’s head. If the player successfully voted for their mark the next day, they will be rewarded with the prize of your choosing.

Some potions have been imbibed!
@hollowkat downed the Black potion with a satisfied belch.
@Kate drank the Bubbling potion and her face suddenly turned quite emotive.
@Creature drank the Pink potion and licked his lips profusely to get every last drop.

Two potions still sit on the counter still to be imbibed: Orange and Green. Any player can tag the host and announce in thread to drink a vial, with any effects announced at the end of the day. Only one player may drink each vial, and players may not drink more than one.

5 different-colored vials of liquid are sitting on the table in the foyer of the mansion: Orange, Green, Bubbling, Pink, and Black.. Any player can tag the host and announce in thread to drink a specific vial, with any effects announced at each 24 hour mark in the day. Only one player may drink each vial, and players may not drink more than one.

Day 4: Nowhere to Hyde




Marcie was still in shock.

One minute, the tall stoner was giggling and making shadow puppets to the dogged amusement of Scooby, and the next a gigantic boulder fell atop him with a resounding thud. 2 others died in the incident, but that wasn’t as important.

The mood was somber in the Mystery Machine, as the group trudged toward the marshy swamp. They had received a call from one perturbed Dr. Jekyll who was concerned that his experiments with potions was turning him into a monster. The group, not believing in ghosts, had agreed for the money; now they were in no mood to play silly games, but had a reputation to uphold.

It was weird for Marcie- seeing these adult children mentally grow up in a matter of seconds after having to deal with sudden loss. With the amount of grizzled and wayward inmates finding their demise in prison, Marcie had already witnessed the horror of death, and was now acting as the eldest in this event.

So it was that she was driving the Mystery Machine into the marsh, keeping the group going. The entire gang seemed to be in psychosis in the back: Fred rocking back and fro, Daphne applying her 4th base layer of makeup in some sort of distraction, Velma practicing memorizing her logarithmic functions, and Scooby…well. Scooby didn’t seem all that phased, for some reason. Especially considering he had just watched his best friend crushed in front of him. He sat in the back expressionlessly staring at her, his eyes locked on her whenever she looked in the rear view.

‘That dog ain’t right,’ Marcie thought, shaking her head.

After some sharp turns to avoid willows, a dilapidated mansion came into focus, surrounded by an eerie fog coming from all directions.

She put the van in park, and spent far longer than she should have looking for the parking break, and announced, “Okay. We’re here.”

No one moved. Marcie sighed, and opened the door. She was strangely excited, even if the sense of mortality and foreboding was very real on her mind.

Why did she feel so alive?

“I’m gonna go talk to Dr. Jekyll. Should I expect you all to come too?” She asked to the group at large? When only Fred responded by throwing up into a sandwich wrapper, Marcie shook her head and closed the door, walking confidently over the marshy driveway to the front door.

Ventriloquism: Once during the game as one action, at night, you may redirect all actions targeting one player onto another player.

Midnight Snack: You may once per game at night choose to copy another player's role abilities (not alignment). Your target will not be notified as such. This ability activates as last priority. The copied ability will be copied with 1 shot, if applicable. Associated location benefits may come into effect.

If you ever use Midnight Snack, you lose the Ventriloquism ability.

Scooby’s Night With a Frozen Fright





“And I would’ve gotten away with it too…if it weren’t for you meddling kids,” the gruff man admitted as the gang surrounded his car.
“And rour rupid dog, roo!” barked the dog.

Marcie knew that wasn’t the end of it. If there was one thing she had learned after attending to the gang’s hijinx and crime solving over the past weekend, it was that they didn’t stop at solving the crimes- they started searching for it. Which brought them to this dock on the river, where Shaggy spied a car double parked in a handicapped space without appropriate signage dangling from the mirror.

Marcie thought it was petty at best to be waiting for this guy to come back from a day out fishing only to jump him like some of the criminals they had caught over the past few days. But Fred can look really imposing with a bat.

“If you want, we can make sure you aren’t lying about your handicap needs,” threatened Fred, while repeatedly slapping the bat into his hand in some menacing show. The man immediately turned white and threw up his hands.

“Nnnno! N…I’ll never do it again! I swear!” the old man stuttered.
“That’s right- you’re going to drive straight to the authorities and turn yourself in. Or else Fred will find you and break your knees!” Daphne added with a sneer.

Marcie was starting to get second thoughts about this arrangement. If these people were so emboldened to solve crime that they would go so far as to create crime to solve it, where they really the good guys at all?

An hour later, and the gang was all giggles and smiles, sitting on a picnic table on the dock eating the largest sandwiches Marcie had ever seen humanly possible.
“And did you see the way he looked at Scoob when he heard growling? P-p-petrified! Heheheheh” laughed Shaggy in between bites.
“Positively shivering with fright!” added Velma.
“Speaking of shivering…look, gang!” yelled Fred, pointing into the river. Marcie could just make out a large cubic object bobbing slowly down the river. If she didn’t know any better, she’d have assumed…but no, it couldn’t be.
Taking action, Fred delegated, “Daph. Be a dear and fetch me the rope from the Mystery Machine.”
Daphne, ever dutiful, ran to the van and returned with a long rope. In a couple quick motions, Fred made a lasso as if in a cartoon and tossed the rope into the river, connecting perfectly with the large slab of ice.
“Come on gang, heave!” he huffed, and all of them, including Marcie, dragged with all their might until the object came onto the dock.
What they saw shocked them. Before then stood a 7 foot tall caveman enshrouded in ice.
“Well if my calculations are correct, that thing has to be millions of years old!” Velma astutely reasoned from nothing, “And I know just the person to look into this further!”

The gang loaded the caveman into the back of the van, and Marcie had to admit, this clown car was getting to be beyond cramped. But they made it work. Shaggy still had mustard all over his mouth and dribbling down his beard as he told Marcie “Don’t worry, dude. This guy that Velma knows is a real cool dude.”
“Reah!” added the English-talking dog, “He ran ralk with dolphins!”

Marcie shuddered. Talking dolphins? What was this world coming to?

I don’t like how the thread state has eroded overnight. I know we post these blocks of rules that are easy to skim over every game, but they’re posted for a reason. Games don’t function nor are they much fun for anyone else if you don’t elect to have a bit of civility. This isn’t a topic about being ‘mean’. This is not meant to stifle your speech. But it is meant to be civil. There is a difference. If you think something you might be saying is a bit too on-the-nose and could be contrived as a personal attack, take a step back and/or reach out to one of Quin or myself. This is a game of lying and deceit, and you don’t have all the information to know everything that’s going on.

This is a warning to be Respectful to one another. I hope not to have to step in and say this again.

EVENT: Ferris Wheel
Take a spin on the tallest ride in the park!

Today, any player may sit in one bucket as the Ferris Wheel spins. Which bucket the player selects is dependent upon the time stamp of when they choose to get in. There is no limit to the amount of players that can get in any one bucket. You don’t know how fast the wheel is spinning. There are 4 buckets on this Ferris Wheel. If you would like to get in the ferris wheel, you may say so either in your private channel or in thread, whichever is said first.

At the end of day, every living player in a bucket will enter into a private chat with all others in that particular bucket, lasting until end of that night.

Foul Play in Funland




After witnessing firsthand Mystery Incorporated in action unmasking the villain at the Airfield, Marcie was exuberant. Sure, the tall guy and the talking dog spent more time hiding and snacking in the radio tower than they did solving anything, and the nerdy woman kept running into walls while only half a step up from legally blind, and sure, when the two attractive people reappeared after splitting up, her makeup was smeared all over her face. But knowing all of that, it quite amazing to see them come together and close the case in a rare form of kismet.

For Marcie’s part, she didn’t do much more than observe. And the gang didn’t seem to mind. It seemed as if she was brought in as more of a moral support, and in a perverse way, an ego-validating witness. These people knew they were ‘the bomb’ as the tall guy liked to say.

The mood in the van was electric. The groovy music was blasting through the front speakers because the back ones were busted. She didn’t know how much authorities paid this group to reward them for their endeavors, but it had to be enough to live off.

She was cramped back here, which wouldn’t be a problem if they invested in air conditioning or the dude with the terrible facial hair brushed his teeth every now and then. The floor was littered with burger wrappers and some chocolate milkshake cups from the local malt shop. The dog had downed 3 malts all by himself, which probably wasn’t something a dog should be digesting, but who was she to ask questions? Now the dog was creepily staring at her all the time and appeared to have a big smile on his face. Marcie tried to look elsewhere.

“Do you like to have fun?” politely asked the nerdy girl.
‘What a weird question,’ Marcie thought.
“Uhm, yea. Sure, fun is good,” Marcie shrugged.
The dog’s smile got wider in an outright human demeanor and Marcie felt even more uncomfortable.

The van collided with something. There weren’t windows back here so she couldn’t see what it was. Eventually the van slowed to a stop. The driver spoke up: “Must’ve hit a deer or something back there. Well gang, good thing you like fun, because we’re here.”
“Like, where’s here, dude?” Tall man inquired.
The redhead poked her head in the back and smiled, “Funland.”
The manchild and the Great Dane looked at each other in pent-up anticipation, then exploded in joyful screams of ‘SCOOBY DOOBY DOO!!’

They mercifully jumped out the back and started running towards the entrance of ‘Funland’.

“Far be it from me to tell them it’s not open,” sighed the nerd.

Everyone got out of the van. The driver cleared his throat and spoke up, “Just like last time, there’s been some disturbances here. The rollercoaster and the Ferris wheel seem to open, but the park isn’t yet. Something’s foul in funland, and we’re gonna get to the bottom of it.”

Marcie still didn’t know her place in the group. But for now she was just happy to be with a group of people that didn’t completely belittle or tease her. She looked back to see if she could see the deer that the van hit, but she didn’t notice any deer on the side of the road. Though there might have been 2 human feet sticking out of a nearby bush. Marcie shrugged. It couldn’t have been that. She then departed into Funland, intending to have fun.

ROLE: You disguise yourself as a demented Knight in Armor in order to scare others away from your art forgery scheme in the Museum.

Armorize: Twice during the game, you may give a vest to a player of your choice. If a kill is to be made against that player at some point in the game, they will be protected and the vest will be expended. You may not target yourself.
This ability expires on Day 4.

LOCATION: County Museum > At top of day, you will gain access the Museum curator, a Dummy account named Mr. Wickles. If he is not chopped, you kidnap a player of your choice that night, blocking their role but also protecting them from all actions.

Mr. Wickles has no voting power and leaves the game after this day phase. He must post at least once to utilize his night power.

The van screeched to a halt outside of an old airfield. Luckily, there weren’t any active planes around. Marcie hated flying.

The scraggly, spindly guy in the back with Marcie reeked of skunk and B.O., and if she were feeling more mean-spirited, she’d have called him names far worse than her own Hot Dog Water moniker. The guy threw back the door and ushered Marcie out.

Once in the parking lot, the large dog came out of seemingly no where and did what looked like an 18th century partnered Irish jig with the tall man in such a polished manner she’d be surprised if they hadn’t rehearsed that ad infinitum over the last 5 months.

A gorgeous red head with a compact emerged from the front with her makeup bag in tow. The bag was the size of a bowling ball and probably weighed as much. The woman cocked her hip to the side. “I love flying. Are we having a private charter?”

The bespectacled woman that initially ushered her into the van fell out of the cab, her glasses instantly scattering across the asphalt. No one bothered to help her. For some reason, that fact made Marcie pity her. Not that anyone bothered to help her back in school.

The door shut and the driver came around to stand near the red head. Too close for Marcie’s taste.
“We’re not flying. There’s been reports of a spooky ghost from outer space shrieking around here,” noted the burly man with the fabulous neck-tie. He turned to Marcie. “Okay. Marcie. We figure the creature is from outer space. We figured we could use some help.”

She frowned. “You’re joking.”

“The truth is, like, out there, dude!” Cried the guy with the green shirt.
“Reah!” Chimed in the dog.

“Look, we don’t really think it’s an alien. There’s bound to be something else going on. Something illegal,” explained the redhead.

“What…What good can I be? I’m just an ex con…Also, wait, did that dog just-“

“It takes one to know one, man!” Continued the tall gangly man. “It’s what Scooby’s always, like, saying, dude.”
The dog, to his benefit, said nothing. Then it went to a nearby luggage car and marked his spot. Maybe she just imagined it talking before.

She glanced around to see that the bespectacled woman was still crawling around in vain to find her lenses on the ground. She cringed inwardly at the situation.

“We’re gonna get to the bottom of this. I’m sure we’ll bring flying high by the end of this,” the jock with the white shirt stated, smiling.
No one laughed at the pun.
“I’m already, like, half-way there dude! Hehehehehe!” The patchy-faced sloth boy giggled. The muscular guy continued, “Ok gang, let’s split up. We’ll meet back here later. Don’t die.”

The woman on the ground finally found her glasses and rushed to follow the diverging groups as they crossed onto the airstrip. She sighed inwardly. ‘Why am I even helping them? What did I get myself into?’ she thought, as she made her way into a hangar.

Three years, six months and two days. That’s how long Marcie Fleach had spent oscillating between laundry duty, kitchen sanitation and mail sorting under the watchful eye of the prison guards. They rejected her request for the kitchen apprenticeship due to the large assortment of metal silverware.

Which- let’s be honest- was a far cry from the rollercoaster steel she had stolen to land her here in the joint. After all, she wasn’t Magneto. Where did they think she would go if she made a grand theft of oxidized dinner spoons?

If there was one person that sympathized with the banality and drudgery of the inmate experience, it was Marcie; or “The Manticore”, as her ‘friends’ called her. If she could even call them friends. She didn’t have many friends on the outside.

As the guard gave her her final possessions she had forfeit on her way into the clink, he gave her a once-over.
“You meeting anyone out there…Hot Dog Water?” The guard gave a smug smile. Marcie grimaced st the guard, and as a pointed answer, snatched her belongings and headed for the exit.

‘That was about right,’ she thought to herself. Somehow the guards found out her old nickname the losers at her old high school used to call her. It wasn’t even accurate- her mom told her she smelled like old roses, which isn’t a vast improvement over hot dog water, but it at least sounded sweeter.

The sun was shining brilliantly in the parking lot. She squinted to adjust to the light. Passing by a few visitors on a smoke break, she bummed a cigarette and enjoyed her first free cigarette in 3 years, 6 months and 2 days.

She was enjoying the feeling so much she didn’t notice the flower-pocked van easing up alongside on the curb. The window rolled down and a masculine voice called out, “Hey! You Marcie?”

She squinted again but couldn’t make out the speaker but as her eyes focused, she did a double take and jumped back in surprise. The occupant in the passenger seat was large and in shadow, but it definitely looked like…

“Earth to Marcie! You’re Marcie Fleach right?”

Yep, it sure seemed like that large dog was talking to her. Yep, she was definitely losing it. If she was losing her mind, she might as well run with it. What was there to lose anyway?

“Yeah, that’s me,” she shrugged to the large dog in the passenger seat. The dog didn’t seem like it was actually involved in this conversation. Maybe that was the driver talking- not the dog.

The side sliding door opened with a creak, forcing a cloud of what looked like smoke out of the van, and a younger woman poked her hand out.

“Wanna help us solve a mystery?”

Marcie only briefly hesitated before taking one more drag of her cigarette, flicking it off towards the prison, and climbing in.

It is now Night 0.

    Excessive Appeal to Emotion (AtE) is usually not warranted or helpful for a fun game state.
    Do not Angleshoot. This amounts to using information outside the game to publically influence reads. If you think something might be angleshooting, it probably is.

SPECIAL RULES:

  • All players have a number of limited-use abilities. If a player has multiple abilities, they may only use one per phase, unless otherwise noted (mafia factional kills are separate).
  • There is an 80-post limit per day. If a player goes over their limit, they will lose their vote and their role abilities for the cycle. If they do it again, they will be mod-killed. You have been warned.
    There is no post minimum, but if you haven’t been active in a cycle I might reach out to see if you need a replacement.
  • Night 0 is only for abilities that utilize it. If your ability does not say it can be utilized on Night 0, it cannot be used then.
  • Each night via poll (including N0), players select a location to investigate. Each location corresponds to one respective monster (town), except for a small number- these locations give benefits to no monster. The following day, the selected location will be the focus of the day, sometimes bringing a day event. If the monster linked to that location is still in the game, they will also gain a boost to their main ability that cycle.
    Once a player has died or a location has been chosen once, the matching location will also be removed from the poll.
  • There will be elements that some might consider “unconventional”, but note I will never lie to you. Role reveals will always be real. All roles have a number of abilities and most roles have an associated location that gives their role benefits. This is a role madness game.
