Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms [Day 4]

not sure if i'll be on in the morning for days end so I'll vote now.

One of them is gonna go to Glorfindel. I think he has more going against him than for him at this point, and what he's said since things really took off haven't changed my mind on him.

I'm a bit iffy about the second vote. Nobody wants to even entertain the Dom train anymore which annoys me to no end, so I'm gonna put my second down on DisgruntledPorcupine just to see what kind of response I can get here. Dropping unexplained votes in on main wagons at the very end of the day is not helpful to the civ cause. I'd like to see you duel.

As I have already said, I read everything. As it was happening. Completely unable to believe my eyes. I know exactly when I got votes and how they influenced the vote tallies. I know who didn't vote for me because I was silenced - that would be you and nutella. Scotty said "So what if he's silenced?" And the other three said nothing at all, and it was AFTER you said you weren't voting for me.

I'm painting the lynch exactly how I experienced it, from my POV, how I perceived it... and tbh I'd have no reason to paint it in a false light even if I was bad so I don't know why this is even important.
Unrelated, but this made me realise I made a mistake earlier in an ISO I did on Boomslang. I said he voted TH for prefect and said all this stuff about how TH was under scrutiny so it was iffy but he actually voted INH

This is the context of DDL's original "I don't trust Jay" stance. Dunny is talking about voting for prefects (i still haven't figured out what that means), not voting declaring anyone a town read.
I'm not sure I interpret this as indicating anything for DDL's alignment. He always plays with a bit of firm and aggressive stance, especially early on, so I can see a town Luffy just wanting to get this thought out there for the uninitiated. I still have some doubts about the sincerity of this stance though.
3J, Scotty and INH are our prefects. Whatever benefit they gained from this is still up in the air. I wonder if even they know, going by what I've read of their posts.

I remember Luffy being this sort of controversial player in Turf Wars, and I'm definitely seeing hints of that in this - but I don't think he came off as genuine in this case.

Re: Romance of the Three Kingdoms [Day 4]

Here's my thoughts on Luffy. I'm going to try something new and do a continuing sort of score after each post, because he's got so much meat to go through and I always suck at quantifying how I feel at the very end. I'll start off at 5/10 just because...middle ground. I don't know. As I said, I'll refer to each post as post 1, 2, and then just give my thoughts- you can follow through my ISO by looking at his posts from his earliest to latest.

I just realised that since I don't talk about every single post this is just going to be confusing. Just try your best to follow along. :puppy:
---

1. Makes a point not to trust JJJ based entirely on meta and previous games. I remember having a disagree opinion on this sentiment but at the time I never really found it suspicious. 5/10

2. 'Judge people based on this game, not on how much of a good civ they tend to be' - a complete contradiction to what he just said, and I don't like it very much. 4/10

3. Responds to elohcin with basically an elaborated version of what he just said. I think I'd feel okay about this if he didn't completely contradict himself before. 4/10

4. Votes himself and INH for prefect. My read for INH is pretty wishy-washy because nothing coming from him springs to mind at the moment, so if INH ever dies I'll have something to compare this to. 4/10

5/6/7. He has some discourse with Glorfindel. It's soft and doesn't amount to anything. 4/10

8. He town reads Glorfindel. Or more specifically, 'gets good vibes'. That's a more flexible way of wording a town read to avoid criticism if he ever needs to back down. He has an entire paragraph as to why Glorfindel is giving him good vibes, and like, half a line for Elohcin. If Glorfindel is lynched today and comes back bad I'd be scrutinising Luffy a lot more. But as it is, still 4/10.

9. His prefect vote is a joke vote. 4/10.

10. Points fingers at MP for wallposting, says that it's not a criticism. 4/10

11. Responds to MP to suggest that his wallposting was BS, and that he picks out BS to reply to. In the very same post he mentions seeing lots of suspicious posts on Day 0 but didn't bother addressing them. Suspicious posts = BS, no? 3/10

12/13. Discourse with 3J. I didn't see his worry of people blindly following 3J reflected in the earlier posts he made, but the sentiments behind it I still agree with. 3.5/10

14. He picks up on a suspicious post by Russ. Although he's second guessing himself I do agree with his reason for finding it suspicious. I think there was another he pulled this sort of 'First to do this win a vote' so after I do this I'll go find out who that was. To discredit myself a little, I did play along with whoever that was. 4/10

15. Says that we should lynch those we are most suspicious of, and he's looking into end game. I don't think anything of the latter part but I thought it'd be good to bring it up. 4/10

16. Says he finds me suspicious and says he'll elaborate. There's a post a little bit later where he agrees with my reasons to dismiss MP's aggressive behaviour as being suspicious which is the closest he comes to it, but he never did come back and explain his reasons. 3/10 Nevermind, he just forgot about little 'ol me. It's a bit later.

17. 'MP is not me though, so I don't know if its a good idea to project myself on him, but after this episode, I just don't feel like I want to lynch his role at all.' - was this just bad wording? ?/10

18. He's neutral reading me now. Sounds like his reason to scumread me was a miscommunication if anything. Ok. 4/10

---

And that's just Day 1.

I was going back looking at MM's votes during his somewhat limited time with us and would like to make the following observations:

Day 1: MM's votes for Day 1 were on: Dr Wilgy (21) and Turnip Head (22). I obviously don't know MM as well as most of you but is it really THAT likely that he would've voted for TWO of his Nanman team mates on Day 1  From an outsider's perspective, I should think it somewhat unlikely - which on balance is a better look for TH. I'm happy to reconsider this if anyone would like to offer an alternate opinion.

Day 2: MM was the last to cast his votes for Dom (54) and Russtifinko (55). Prior to placing his votes, Russ was 'runner-up' wagon on 7 votes. The next highest wagon was timmer on 6 votes. So assuming MM's vote was a 'hail Mary' self preservation vote, wouldn't it have been more logical for him to have voted the next highest wagons (Russ and timmer) than to place his vote on Dom? Admittedly, timmer's last vote (6) was made immediately before MM's (by Nutella) but I wonder what conclusions could be drawn from that? The vote for Dom was on a slow burn from the beginning of the Day phase (starting on vote (5) and followed by votes (9), (13), (23) and (43). In comparison, timmer's vote was meteoric - picking up 6 votes in a matter of hours (votes (26), (31), (33), (41), (48) and (53). If self preservation were his goal, I'd have thought MM would've voted timmer before Dom
It looks like a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors to get people to turn away from TH and towards Russ. I know this post was influential in m own thinking about Timmer. I can't help but wonder if this wasn't the push of a baddie to get a lynch train going at the top of the hill so that it could speed up on its own.

More suspish of TH now. Starting to be suspish of Glorf.

Can someone summarize why people are suspicious of Sorsha?
I had the opposite opinion as Glorfindel had in the Day 1 part. I'm not seeing how the timmer lynch would influence your opinion of him in this post. Can you elaborate?
This post, made when folks were talking about both TH and Timmer, reads like a soft defense of TH and a push towards Timmer. It's questioning the premise of suspicion without overtly defending, as a mafia teammate might do in order to defend. Assuming TH was actually silenced during the last day, then this could be defending a teammate who could not defend themselves (but too early in the cycle to speculate that he was silenced). It even adds the, "I could be wrong" point at the end.

By questioning why MM voted Dom and not Timmer, he implies (fairly directly, although without saying it in so many words) that Timmer and MM were teammates. This reads like an intentional redirect of suspicion from one player to another. We now know that Timmer was civ. I'm wondering if Glorf and TH aren't both teammates of MM (and, hence, knew that Timmer wasn't their teammate).

And I just caught my typo that I meant to say, "It looks like a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors to get people to turn away from TH and towards Timmer," and not, "It looks like a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors to get people to turn away from TH and towards Russ." I was looking at his post when I wrote it and got the names discombobulated.

Being that I already suspect TH this, in all fairness, furthers my own resolve. But I don't think it looks good for either TH or Glorf in my mind. Those will likely be my 2 votes.
I see it now, and I agree. I think I could vote Glorfindel today. TH keeps popping up so I'll be looking at his posts at some point today as well.

Sloonei wrote:I was looking at some of the timmer voters overnight and a found a few questionable things in Glorfindel’s history. First, These two posts represent his only noteworthy contribution to the Day 1 proceedings, and all he is doing is rejecting a voting strategy proposed by others. He does not propose anything of his own and I see no commitment to anything, really. Looks like Glorfindel spent most of the day in the shadows and then stepped out late to position himself against what could be perceived as a bad lynch (Bubbles, aka me, voting for JJJ and Scotty. I assume Jay was town and have no read on Scotty at this point).

That’s one thing. I read that and was feeling a mild tingle, but then I got to his next string of posts and the tingling intensified.
There’s no nightkill Night 1, so Glorfindel immediately jumps to the conclusion that there’s an inactive scum who simply forgot to submit the kill and then proposes the strategy, which he’s normally against, of lynching quiet players because of this. On the following page people started pointing out all the numerous other ways that a nightkill could be prevented, but Glorfindel doubled down on the “inactive scum” theory, even suggesting it’s the most logical explanation. I would not say it is logical to assume that every single scum player (if any scum player is capable of submitting a factional kill, idk how Epi’s doing it this game) simply forgot that there was a responsibility to submit a kill on Night 1, rather than the list of other possible explanations (doctor, unkillable role, roleblocks, etc.). Glorfindel sort of acknowledged this here but also stuck to his guns.

What do y’all think of this? I am not at all familiar with Glorfindel’s playstyle, so any useful knowledge there would be helpful.
It's worth noting he mentioned the Yellow Turbans leader specifically. Thoughts?

This is my first time playing too, but I don't think that believing a kill-less night was due to inactivity could ever be something that someone historically believes in.

Not really seeing the logic there.

I also admit that Timmer has been acting nutso, but seeing as he's already most likely due for a duel, I'm not gonna throw another log on a blazing fire.
What do you think about the fact that timmer voted TCF?

A baddie would have no issue throwing darts at everyone, whether landing on civ or indy, as long as it doesn't backfires at him (apart from, in extremis, bussing a teammate). An indy, technically, could be in murkier waters and try to tread more carefully. His D1 votes look pretty weaksauce (DF, DP). Then on D2 he locks on significant counter-wagons, at a bad timing, according to my chart - which looks more committed and relevant, but isn't an improvement, I'd say.

linki: right there, Mac. To paraphrase: Wilgy would concoct WIFOM for MM. MM would concoct WIFOM for TH.
Surely Marmot wouldn't double down on his teammate though. That would be epic dumb. Would be giving him concrete boots.
I considered the possibility. I think it's feasible for him of all people.

Voted Dom and timmer. The latter voted TCF so I avoided going there for now. In hindsight I might have thought too hard about that, because I skipped on the detail that they could both be bad, just on another team. I'm comfortable with my vote anyway.

Dragon D. Luffy wrote:Alright I don't have anything to add myself so I'm gonna make a proposition to you all.

Talk about the following people:

Boomslang
Bullzeye
Dragon D. Luffy
Elohcin
Nerolunar
Quin

All those are players with 5 or more posts, which posted on day 2 or later, and yet nobody seems to be talking about them.

Yes I included myself. I fit the above criteria so it's only fair. And it feels awkward when nobody wants me dead, I don't like it. Talk about me more please.

Don't have an opinion on them? Well it's a great time to ISO them. Go.
Here I go. I'm not quoting things because cba, so follow along in his post history, I'll try and address each post that speaks out to me in a different line. I'm skipping Luffy for a different post, because I know I can get through everyone else without a post being way too bulky but he'll inevitably wind up with a whole post to himself. :p

Boomslang

First thing of interest is that he votes the marmot for prefect, though it's under the guise of something not particularly related to the game. The question is 'do I believe him?' He also gives a vote to TH, who's also come under a bit of scrutiny, so it's something to point out.

He also was pretty thorough in explaining why the idea of pitting civs up against baddies was bad, but then he dialed back to agree that 'because we have more warriors, it's a good strategy' - which pretty much just contradicts the point he was making. I feel like he's arguing the opposite of what his earlier justification should be saying in later posts. Not a good look.

His first accusation was at Jan - I don't think anybody was even looking at Jan before this and that hasn't really changed. I think his reasons make sense. He addresses the marmot wagon and later even jumps on it. I'm not sure exactly where this put marmot on the poll, so my read would depend on that, but this suspicion kind of just springs out of nowhere.

His latest post makes me feel better. Boomslang seems to just be following a bunch of non-mainstream suspicions and is consistent in it. I like that in practice, but there's the possibility in my mind that he's just trying to avoid coming under fire for being involved in the 'bigger' wagons. He's standing out pretty well, though, so I'm having my doubts there.

Overall, maybe the slightest of civ reads. He should post more.

Bullzeye

First things first, he votes Wilgy for prefect - though again, there's a non-game related reason. Keeping this in mind for the future.

He says a bit about how the civ vs baddie or baddie vs baddie opinions in terms of the duels aren't suspicious. I disagree. But he seems genuine.

He self-votes day 2, and not anybody with him. I guess it's cool. Neutral.

Another slight civ read. Should also post more.

Elohcin

Some discourse with Luffy, her reasons for supporting 3J as prefect are good.

She has a bit of an 'odd' opinion about the duels, but she's on the suspect vs suspect side, which I like.

A prefect vote for Wilgy. Her reasoning is just because of a lack of time to read the thread. I think by what she said she has been somewhat involved in catching up, so I'd imagine she voted those two based on some sort of a civ read.

She's pretty early to support the case against marmot. I don't recall who she's voted for today and when (and with this site's internet being as it is, I don't want to go search for it) so I'd be interested to compare this post with the time of her vote (and reasoning for her second, as that may obviously delay it)

Nevermind. She did follow up with a vote for marmot and russ. The timing reminds me of the idea that Dom was saved, but I'm not very interested in pursuing that train of thought until we know that for sure.

Of the three I've done thus far, she's my strongest civ read. It's not a confident read, but that comes with the territory of having a low post count. I imagine this might change pending Dom's flip...if it ever happens.

Nerolunar

He's pinged by MP's defence at the GTH thing. Most of us put that down as PhD stress, right?

Marmot pries into his 'reasonable bandwagon' idea. It's sort of soft, and doesn't really tell me anything one way or another, because it's not pursued by him.

Points fingers at Glorfindel for having this overtly friendly attitude. I've stalked a couple of games I haven't been in and when he's playing he generally always has that attitude. Even with he's under scrutiny. He must be some sort of masochist, idk. I don't really know why that accusation exists.

He's open about his under the radar playing style this game. I've not seen him do this before, but seeing him acknowledge it before any else looks good.

I'm slightly iffy about his vote for the random voters. One of them did land on timmer a person I'm currently scumreading, and he was an emerging wagon.

Nerolunars a neutral read, but if I were to GTH it, I'd say bad.

nutella wrote:The weird thing about Russ is that he was around a little bit on day 2, but didn't really defend himself despite being on the dueling block. He just barely responded to JJJ's points about him, but basically nothing since. There was also this lynch reaction that a handful of people (myself included) didn't like. I really don't know what to think of him at this point tbh. The things that JJJ pointed out were never particularly incriminating IMO, but his style has been weird and, as I said of MM, rather cavalier :p Did he give up on defending himself from the bandwagon? Was he quite confident that he was going to win the duel, and just not bother getting worried?

Since I started writing this post he's made another check-in post that's really no more than that, and he says he'll probably "more-or-less random" vote today due to not catching up. I'm kinda feeling worse and worse about his style/participation here -- in fact it's pretty much the same feeling I got from MM. Russ is climbing back up toward the top of my list for today.

Timmer has very few posts of substance -- like many others he couldn't keep up with the thread, but his drive-by vote was pretty suspicious. He's defended it twice and seems to think it was a perfectly fine thing for a civ to do. I'm rather inclined to disagree, but I suppose I could see him feeling genuinely ok about it. But the fact that he voted for the two runner-ups to MM is very suspicious. Especially looking at where he voted on Rico's handy chart -- MM was in the lead but Dom and Russ were pretty close behind, and Timmer brought them even closer. Doesn't look good. I may very well vote for him again today.

Sorsha has popped in a few times and not caught up/participated in the thread discussion much but she has brought in her own unique perspective on some random stuff. Like she wanted to go after the prefects and thought they might be more likely to have teammates, which is actually not an unreasonable point, but her attitude when asked about it was a little odd. When asked about the main candidates on day 2 she said she didn't suspect Dom, wasn't sure about Russ, but "would be ok with an MM vote" but then she voted for herself and INH. Tbh that strikes me as the kind of thing a teammate might do -- saying she's ok with that bandwagon but not actually joining it -- but the fact that she voted for herself and another non-vote-getter is a less suspicious way to uninformedly vote than timmer's.

DF seems to me like his usual self, and has been completely reasonable in his back and forth with Dom. I think he's good.
I see what you mean RE: Russ, I've looked over a couple of his posts and he seems to just be faintly here.

I've not looked at anything posted by timmer or sorsha yet. I can say that the one time I played with timmer before he was my strongest town read in the game right off the bat, so if that's not the case this time he must be scum. I'll have to have a look.

Could you elaborate more on sorsha's "odd attitude" toward the prefect thing?
I was about to dig into you a bit for what you said about timmer here, but I assume by the formatting you were being sarcastic.

I think in this game Dom sticks out. When Dom is scum, I don't see him sticking out. He might be present and vocal, but it feels more like he is trying to be able to show he is there and part of the game but without drawing attention to himself.

Boomslang wrote:Alright, finally got time to sit down and work through this thing. Thanks for keeping posts under a thousands per day, fam :P Very glad the MM suspicion turned out, and I'm not surprised by the JJJ prefect kill. Kind of surprised INH and Scotty haven't been attacked yet, but then again, INH hasn't been much of a force in the thread. Some of my thoughts thus far:

I really liked nutella's defense against MP. I thought the second point, where she called him out for misrepresenting her attack on Dom, was particularly cogent. MP highlighted the "annoying" part while ignoring the meaty "sufficient content" and "voting behavior" reasons. That kind of deliberate misdirection pings bad to me.

I think LoRab's read on TH is very good. There's opportunity for WIFOM, but TH does seem too chummy with MM at the start, and I think "Or I could always vote myself so that I can duel the marmot and bring honor to my home." is a big red flag. It would be a way to take a vote out of play for a teammate in a seemingly selfless manner. Also, I see a possible motive for the immediate JJJ nightkill. JJJ asks why TH has beef with MM, and TH just shrugs it off with the silly "He made rude remarks about the size of my ancestors' bellies." Killing JJJ could be a way to eliminate followup questions today?

I don't like Nerolunar just kind of shrugging off my criticism of his D2 votes. The distinction between "random" and "impulse" votes seems spurious, especially when he says random is "being indifferent about the voted players" and then that his impulse votes were based on Timmer and BWT being "careless and uninterested." I don't get excited to vote for players who seem uninterested; carelessness is a slightly better criterion, but he provided no specific evidence. Can you back that up from thread posts, Nerolunar?

Jan continues to seem more baffled than someone should be. "Why wasn't anyone killed?" has plenty of reasons, and it's worth conjecture on why. That's the second time Jan has said something that seems to show a carelessness with thinking through the rules.
My only concern is that a lot of the reason MM was lynched because of his interactions with Wilgy - so I wonder how likely it is that TH is trying to pull the same strategy as he did after it blew up in his face. I think you make a good point with the rest of your case, though. He'll be getting ISO'd by me for sure.
