I almost always root for the teams from the islands. One good ball player can raise the standard of living of entire villages in the DR, for instance, so I like to see those guys make it to the bigs. Years ago before he became controversial, from time to time you used to see Jose Reyes' whole family, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews out and about on excursions in the NY area and they all looked so happy.
It is my understanding that David Ortiz puts tremendous amounts of $$ into the DR economy, and Pedro Martinez not only pays to have whole villages upgraded, he pitches in on the building himself.

It's hard to conceive of baseball without Big Papi for sure. He's like Mr Boston really.Sloonei wrote:Our only real question here is how to react to not having David Ortiz in the lineup.

Re: All Things MLB
They were my local team for years when I lived in NW Montana, "only" 10 hours drive away ha ha. Closest Major League ballpark. Every year they have home series against the Yankees, and my husband was all Yankees. So we went every year. I got used to rooting for them to beat the Yankees
So we also started going occasionally for Interleague series since I am all National League.
Plus Seattle is my favorite American city, so there's that.

Re: All Things MLB
Since the Mets crashed & burned (but what a glorious crash & burn it was!!) I am rooting for the Cubs. They are always my first fallback after the Mets & Mariners (the Mariners are the only American League team I can abide; I have seen more Mariners games live than any team).
GO CUBBIES!!

Re: All Things MLB
I don't need Instant Replay to tell me A-Rod is a huge idiot
And even though he was a Yankee, I always had a soft spot for Bubba Crosby. He was a scrappy little bastard. My husband was a Yankees fan, and I even found myself rooting for them a time or two when they had Bubba.
And the Mets history is a litany of semi-obscurity, lol. I love all those dopey losers <3

Re: All Things MLB
For me it is Doc Gooden & Darryl Strawberry. Old school junkies, true, but imagine what they could have done sober. Not unlike Babe Ruth~ can you imagine what a healthy, sober Babe could have done?
I am glad to have Colon back, and wish him a good season. It is possibly his last, and I am glad he is spending it in Queens.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
It would be nice; Mets fans don't want to see the other team celebrating at Citifield (I still so want to say Shea Stadium ).

Re: 2015 MLB Season
So far the Mets are on fire, and except for that one blip that Granderson pulled out for him, Syndergaard seems really on his game.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
I will always root NL, unless the Mariners are playing, they're my second team. But if the Mets don't make it I would love to see the Cubs win.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
I always root National League first (except Braves, I will root for Satans Minions first), the Mariners & Twins (the closest thing I had to local teams when I lived in Montana).
But yeah, Mets first, then Cubs.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
They take the "color" in "color commentators" seriously
Especially Keith Hernandez, he's a character. I grew up with Ralph Kiner and Lindsay Nelson. They were a bit more sedate but only marginally so. I might be biased but I think we have the most entertaining announcers in baseball.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
All right, we,re approaching the all star break, and the Mets, already precariously hovering around .500 are poised to do their yearly implosion.
Still it could be worse; I could have been born into a Yankee family

Re: 2015 MLB Season
Those are the current NL East standings. This is a clever trick from the Mets. They do this ALOT, but the fans still fall for it. It's kinda like the "Lucy Pulling the Ball Away Before Charlie Brown Can Kick It" trick. They get the fans all worked up and excited, and sometime around the All Star Break, they will collapse and turn into a pile of goo that could be beaten by the Peoria Little League.
But I love them anyhow.
