Re: Game of Champions 2017 - GAME OVER

I think you balanced well the roles with the misinformation or ambiguity or red herrings or whatever you want to call it in the thread. You gave us enough reasons to doubt that we could ever actually know anything. I like that in a game. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to run this and I had a lot of fun! Probably my best (and maybe my only) 3P win, definitely my first GoC win!

I joke but that one was rough to swallow :P Come on man!

I thought initially "Oh cool, a first-phase fool role with a bonkers win condition (who in hell is going to survive long enough and consistently get votes and consistently be in the lynch wagon to make 7 votes/lynches?) that'll morph into someone that can actually do something once I inevitably die. So I had some wind in my sails at least, poking the bears and futzing with the game a bit while I waited to die. Then I died and the role stayed exactly the same in a game where it was explicitly in the rules that everyone gets two roles and the wind from those sails vanished and you can probably see that in the thread :P

Anyway it was a fun game, thanks for (almost kind of) inviting me Golden/Juliets. You guys did a great job.
That embarrassment was due to my list, but it's because in the past we had not included Heists in the GoC. So my list was correct, but we realized that the reason we hadn't included the Hejsts was we originally were going to do a smaller All Star Game for the Jeist MVPs. When you signed up it caused us to re-evaluate the process of Heists and GoC qualifications. So don't be embarrassed, you were a force for change. Anyway, all that to say sorry and it wasn't anyone's intention to embarrass you.

My biggest, and really only fear about being lynched was that I might come back bad after all the work I’d put in as town. It made me realize that scenario probably wasn’t actually in the cards for this game. That’d just be cruel.

That and I’d be separated from Sister Daisy.
This is what terrified me too! I figured, if anyone was likely to change alignments it would be a 3P. I was so afraid of being lynched or killed and coming back bad when I had been playing civ so hard for the whole game.

One of the most interesting things to me was how hard it was to get people to believe the word 'random'.

The first post literally said they were randomised.

So yes, all the Strex ended up on one tribe. Bad luck, but I also never expected LoRab to sit on the button for as long as she did, even though she didn't know what it did.
This is historically how it happens. The button's first appearance was in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy hosted by myself and Merlin. aapje had the button originally I believe and he held it FOREVER. We never anticipated that. We figured who can resist pushing a big red button with unknown result? appje ended up gifting it to G-Man late in the game. G-Man pushed it fairly soon after he got it and by then we were nearly to end game, we were like oh shit the players are going to be so pissed when all the role get randomized fresh...

Moral of the story: never think that you can anticipate how your players will respond because you just never know.

S~V~S I'm sorry I was beating a dead horse with you but I couldn't honestly figure out what you felt about Speedchuck and after we figured out what your role did, I felt like I needed to know in order to sort what I believed about your alignment. I had a feeling that you were trying to avoid getting in trouble with Golden's strict role claiming interpretations. I got a stern talking to at one point for something that wasn't actually even a role claim at all, but could be interpreted as such. I hadn't even meant it that way, lol. But it was me trying to push conversation in a direction that we hoped would help make people back off Sloonei. So what can you do? Anyway, sorry if I was driving you crazy, but I had a reason, I swear!

Since there were four Strex, I believe there is likely to be a 4th Even, unless LC used his ability on someone and their death reveal was false. I don't see any reason to believe that though. Even so, we lynch Kyle and we will know for sure if we have another out there or not.

If Kyle is the lynch switcher (I don’t know who else would have done it) I would believe him to have an innate ability or at least very quick reflexes to PM golden, since Sloonei and I voted like 30 seconds before the EoD.

Either way, I’m down for lynching him tomorrow.

I doubt Kyle had a lynch switch, I think he has a teammate with one or else a civ who really believed INH was bad did this.

Re: Game of Champions 2017 - Night 15

I'm with DDL on this one. Don't get caught up in paranoia Quin, SVS is civ for sure. There are certain things she has done over the course of the game that I think point to this. And her behavior recently (though I disagree with her decisions) read like civ SVS to me totally. Let's not pull a Sloonei type lynch again.

Current thoughts: I still struggle to hear Kyle's voice when I read his posts. I've been trying to figure out what that means exactly and I think that I'm just not reading his posts as genuine. And I think this is something I feel more on a gut level. I don't have a god reason for it. I definitely did not like some of his posts after yesterday's lynch but it could be partially due to my frustration over the day's result.

Scotty is the opposite, I look at a lot of things like his first role and things he has said and I think he makes more logical sense to me than Kyle. Most recently that he seems to be trying to keep the field open rather than trying to pursue the Even PoE. Is he afraid the net is closing on him? Despite this, my gut is saying Kyle over Scotty. I'm not sure I understand why exactly.

Short of hard and fast proof of someone else my vote will go to one of these two today.

Dom, why would you chase down another avenue with far less solid leads? I have no desire for this. It gives baddies a place to hide or a way to avoid a lynch. Additionally, we don't know for sure if there are three or four baddies on each team, we could be chasing phantoms. We will know more if we lynch an Even and see if the game ends or goes on. It is the most logical course of action here to follow our best lead to try and lynch an Even.

I'm tossing my vote on Kyle for now, but could be persuaded to switch to Scotty possibly.

Kyle, I am increasingly ready to lynch you. Your arguments make no logical sense to me. Why would Sloonei include himself in considering who his personal PoE pool has been limited to? That was what Sloonei was doing, not posturing, he was the playing the game. Neither Civ nor mafia in their right mind would ever include themselves as possibly being a contender in their own personal PoE pool of suspects.

And as I have said all game long, we are all working on supposition, we don't actually *know* anything. In light of roles like Nutellas and LC's, we can't even be 100% on flips. And I strongly dislike people discounting thread work becasue it does not fit a mechanics construct that is only hypothetical. One of the games I hosted, Dogma, is a game that I know to have been one of Goldens faves (and that Juliets co hosted). It included an entire dead team the rest of the thread knew nothing about, it include merged bad teams, it included a shitton of chaos. Golden likes the mystery, not the predictability.

So if I think someone is bad, I don't appreciate it being blown off becasue it doesn't fit someone elses hypothetical construct. I will take the constructinto account, but it won't trump threadwork in this mechanics scenario.
Why on god's green earth if were on a team wth Boomslang would we try to save Sloone unless he was on our team. You absolutely are tinfoiling right now.

what I said about sloonei had basically nothing to do with you. my point was that Sloonei's order of operations for the process of elimination on the whole pika2.0 thing was potentially self-serving and shouldn't qualify as a reason to trust him.

him putting you high up on the list for reasons that he also applied to scotty, who was low on his list doesn't look good to me.

your being good or bad isn't particularly relevant to Sloonei's treatment of you and others in regards to the PoE. the only way Sloonei pulling you away from the fire looks bad for both you and him is if you're both evens, which seems unlikely and also isn't the point that I'm arguing.

Yes as an example you compared how Dom was behaving to how Sloonei was behaving. You literally said Dom is low activity but he isn't constantly apologizing for low activity. But Dom is playing his normal game. Why would he apologize for that? Sloonei on the other hand, while more engaged than the average player, he is not playing to the same standard as he normally would.

As far as cbob, I am considering it based on his sudden interest in what appears to be an easy bandwagon to jump on because it's the big topic at the moment. I'm ISOing now.

Re: Game of Champions 2017 - Day 15

I kind got detached from the game a bit in the last lynch because i didn't fee strongly about any of them, and now I am just getting back in here fully. So... I'm surprised by the flack Sloonei is catching. It's pretty ridiculous imo. Sloonei and Epi are my strongest town reads and Sloonei has been there since probably Day 2, he is looking pretty civ.

SVS, comparing Dom to Sloonei is like comparing apples to oranges. Dom is lower activity in almost every game he plays. Not that he doesn't contribute, but he doesn't post as much as Sloonei normally does. Why would Dom apologize for playing the way he always plays? Sloonei is someone who plays like Jay and dunya, they do a lot of legwork in the thread, analyzing and ISOing like crazy. Did you ever think that perhaps his apologizing constantly for being less engaged is because he feels like he is failing to live up to his own expectations for himself? Because that is how I've read them. Look, I've mislynched Sloonei before in the past, that is usually how I learn to read someone better, by being VERY wrong about them. I'm not interested in doing it again. Just not seeing Sloonei as bad and I would definitely oppose his lynch today.

Also I'm not liking the opportunistic look of cbob jumping on sloonei either. I need to ISO him to see if this is a new development.

Serious question: let's say there's people with two lives left, but no mafia roles. Do you think the game ends?
Asked this already. It does.
Ohhh, clearly I missed you asking this. But I am very glad for that answer.

Uh not sure how that happened, but the part where I say "up until his death I trusted him" refers to Quin, not Blooper.

I've been wondering that myself. I hope the answer is yes it would end, because if you were in a role playing hard to win for the team you were aligned with, and the game didn't end because of you still being in your first life, which would basically force you to lose after you had worked hard for the win con your first life needed... THAT would be a bastard role.

weird list tbh
 I was taking a more practical approach to the lynch. though I have at times suspected Boomslang, I have recently begun to feel like I don't find him so suspicious. It was probably just the vastly different viewpoints that he and I were taking early in the game I think. cbob, I don't know. I will do an ISO on him, but I haven't felt particularly pinged by anything there, we'll see how I feel today after I do an ISO. Blooper is a no go for me, and up until his death I trusted him. I haven't seen anything to change that opinion. That left sprityo who had claimed a bastard role. And I can see what he meant since he could possibly redirect a civ's ability, thereby confusing their results. Though I wouldn't necessarily call it a bastard role. I apologize if I made your end unfun for you Sprityo, you are a cool dude and have played hard the majority of the game. I kind of feel like Epi though, I don't think it was the worst possible result.

Ah! I see why I gave you that impression. No, it was directed at the fact he seemed to think me questioning what he said was a sign of me making an accusation against him. I don't suspect him. I don't trust him either.

Re: Game of Champions 2017 - Night 13

I have floated that a couple times, but I don't currently feel an overwhelming suspicion of Boomslang.

S~V~S I neither trust nor suspect sprityo atm. I must have given you the wrong impression, sorry.

I've been quieter because I feel less comfortable with the options on this poll sadly. It's been interesting to watch it develop though.

I would say right now I feel most comfortable with the reasoning DDL presented. If sprityo is telling the truth and he has a bastard role, then it likely will be to our benefit to eliminate it from the game. And if he is lying then we have probably caught a baddie.

I'm going to [VOTE: sprityo] aubergine because I don't feel convinced any of these candidates are the person we are looking for. As you can probably tell, I'm still holding out a belief that we only had three on each team and we are now down to one. Everyone keeps talking about the mechanics and how with two lives it makes more sense to have more baddies, but it doesn't really. We will have the maximum number in our second lives. And at any given point in the game we will never have more civs than what we started with. The numbers do not support a good balance if you give us two teams of 4 baddies each. That is 8 baddies in total. And I am fairly confident that there is at least one of two 3p roles too, judging from Scotty's first role description. So that would be what, 10/11 civs vs. 8 mafia vs. 1/2 3P? In light of this I'm optimistic we only have one Even left.

But if I am wrong and we have four per team, we will figure it out eventually. And I would say sprityo is probably the best vote. But really as long as we don't lynch Blooper I am ok with any other result of this lynch.

Re: Game of Champions 2017 - Night 13

sprityo I don't suspect you, what you thought Golden said is more what is usual in a game so I can understand defaulting to that. But unfortunately it is not what he said. Easy enough mistake. Best way to determine our situation now is to lynch an Even and we will know for sure.
