Re: Random~
Got my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. I think mine were unusually difficult because it took about 2.5 hours altogether. It wasn’t a lot of fun, but at least this weekend I have an excuse to lay around and do as little as possible.

Rochester is a cool town — the Strong Museum is fantastic and you can't go wrong with a good garbage plate. I've had my fair share of fun there and up in Brockport.

Welcome to Buffalo! 30 degrees this time of year feels like beach weather!Sloonei wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 4:43 pmI went outside to dig my car out of the snow. It’s so cold that my eyes started to water, and then that moisture froze my eyelashes together. If the school closes tomorrow as well, I’ll have to wait a whole nother week. At that point it will have been over two months since I had a class to attend.
What has my life come to that this is what upsets me?

Re: Random~
The people that complain about today’s generation being weaned on participation trophies belong to the generation of parents who were giving them out. It’s not like kids got together and decided they’d get them ...

Thanks for sharing, Turbup, and best of luck moving forward.Turnip Head wrote: ↑Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:41 am Today is National Coming Out Day so I wanted to share something. For a long time now I've identified myself as transgender. It's something I've kept hidden from my friends and family, mainly because I had no avenue to pursue it financially. I've never felt comfortable in my body, I've always felt like something was wrong on a fundamental level.
So, the idea is that this is something I'm finally going to act on. The road ahead looks long and challenging, but I can now say I have a real direction and real goals for my life whereas I previously had none of those things. It feels like I'm taking control of my own happiness for the first time.

Re: Random~
I went to Toronto last week for a day trip and had a swell time crossing back in. The guy at the border was taking about 6 minutes per car while the line to the right just zipped by. Five cars in front and that adds up. Finally when I was next in line, the guy goes off to vet somebody’s trunk or something ... and then his replacement proceeded to ask me 3 questions, then let me in, over a grand total of 25 seconds.

Re: Random~
It’s basically just Facebook statuses (or MySpace statuses if you prefer) but the leadership is terrible and it doesn’t lead to a lot of learning or understanding between people who disagree. It’s good for memes but that’s about it.G-Man wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 7:01 amI never understood the appeal of Twitter. I grew up in the heyday of AOL Instant Messenger, when reading people’s away messages was oftentimes as much fun as IM’ing people. Twitter strikes me as nothing but away messages. Sure, there’s an art to pinning your thoughts down in 140 characters but it all boils down to “this is what I’m doing” or “this is what I think”. The sheer volume of tweets posted in a day boggles my mind. Unless you spend a great deal of time reading through the feeds you follow, you might miss something worth reading. And unless you tweet a lot each day, your feed will get buried by those who do. It’s become, what this old-timer views as, an away message arms race.ColinIsCool wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 7:17 am Twitter is an overwhelmingly net negative in my life and in the world imo

Re: Random~
We don’t get a lot of bad storms like that typically, but the snow is mostly brutal (you may recall having seen it on the news around Thanksgiving 2014 — I had a week’s worth of classes cancelled) and it will fluctuate wildly from day to day. People joke that you can get all 4 seasons in one week here, but ... it’s not a joke.Sloonei wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 12:01 pmIs the weather always so severe? I’d like to know what sort of childhoods the police officers involved in those cases had, but for them it’s probably more about being a bully than concern for the kids.
