I think his posts come across as genuinely believing he is towny, which if he's scum he would not genuinely believe
mm, i think the comment that most closely reflects that mindset is him joking about being mischop bait - it's the type of joke that usually does require a certain level of comfort to be able to pull off, and i get your point about that level of comfort not meshing with what his mindset would probably be as scum (ie: nervous). i think the other posts you brought up are mostly NAI, but i'll think it over

i am tired and still not up to speed, sorry.

what's your take on the game state so far? how are we doing? what would you like to see happen over the last ~24 hours of day 1?
1. if you're town, then i want you to townread me in the next 24 hours. i can't snap my fingers and make it happen, but that's my wish. this is partially for selfish reasons and partially because i feel like it'll be good for the threadstate if we can work together. having as many people to bounce my reads off of as possible is really important to me in a game like this

2.the gamestate is fine. i'm concerned about the fact that we've been hearing from the same ~10 voices or so, when this is a 20+ player game. i feel like there are a number of people who have been able to weasel out of explaining their reads by just outright ditching the thread for long periods of times, and that makes productive dialogue a lot more difficult than it would be if we had more centralized communication. i don't really feel like any valuable towncores are forming today and i also don't feel that people who ~are~ universal townreads have any real sense of cohesion - feels like everyone is just kind of blindly stumbling around shouting their own suspicions right now

so uh....maybe the threadstate isn't as good as i thought, lmao, but most of this is probably par for the course for d1 of a game of this size. the best thing that could happen in the next 24 hours is if the players who have been largely silent today came back with strong and well-substantiated thoughts, but i don't think that's going to happen
bounce reads off me. I'm feeling bouncy
could you give me your GTH reads on the following names?

urist
rej
poison
c4e5g3d5
nanook
nanook can be scum. Probably lightly >rand scum
Rej is town
Poison scummy
C4 has had some weird posts tbh and I'm less sure of them right now but I haven't really agreed with ~any reasons people have been scum reading him so lol
Urist idk. They're taking a really weird angle if scum. I'll probably need to ISO them to give real thoughts cause I haven't cared much
oooh the rej townread is spicy, can i hear more about that? does it just stem from the post where he said that he was mischop bait?

somewhat agreed with nanook. mildly agreed with poison (i believe that someone presented the theory that poison is a little bit ~afraid~ of the thread and doesn't really know what direction/angles to take with her scumhunting, and that's a vibe that i've consistently felt more and more as the day has gone on and her content has waned. that might not be totally fair to her, i just feel like her solving has largely been directionless in a way that kinda pings me - im also kinda worried about her tr on me lol, it felt a little fake). i mildly scumlean urist but i could probably be talked out of it if they just ......explained their reads more in-depth. his reasoning for scumreading poison was fine, i guess

You could make this post score an 80000 on the Scoville scale by naming names right here.
urist, boknows, rej, kza

this isnt to say that all of these people are dodging the thread maliciously - i've just felt that communication with them has been difficult today

actively worried about jackofhearts, boknows, urist, rej

everyone else is w/e
Tell me what’s wrong with the other three of us eh?
urist - lazily signal boosted the momentum against me at the peak of the moment when i was being pressured, and then ducked out of the thread. has not addressed any of my questions. had an incredibly confident scumread on long con that was shaping a big part of their perception of their game - a read that seems to have disappeared w/out explanation in their most recent string of posts. (is that because he doesn't think that long con is enclave? i don't know, i'm just worried about the confidence on a lot of reads that i think are probably just outright incorrect)

boknows - felt confident enough to post an entire readslist at a point when the rest of his posts were 100% filler - reads reeked of TMI (his reasoning for townreading me was vague and generic, he gave similar reasoning for both poison and long con but then reached completely different conclusions - i think esooa pointed that out already)

rej - posts have felt overly focused on keeping up the appearance of solving - piggybacked off of the thing that i was being pressured for on page 3 and then kept the same read on page ~20ish in a way that felt static. i don't get the sense that rej's reads are fluid, dynamic, or in the state of development. they feel like conclusions that he reached because he feels like he needs to reach conclusions, as opposed to conclusions that form from just organically approaching the game w/a detective mindset
If this was my entire understanding of the game, I wouldn’t be concerned with Rej based on that.
why's that? is it typical for rej to play that way?
In terms of being like focused on a couple things while not being a major thread presence, giving him the appearance of trying to maintain an appearance of solving.

Does that sound like Rej here or is it worse than that?
it's a little worse than that

this introductory post from rej checked off a few boxes for me:
Rej wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:18 pm
staypositivefriend wrote: Sun Feb 28, 2021 8:30 pm i have two townreads but im not gonna say who yet = )
Heya, here to play some low effort, this is the first post that pinged me. I personally don't like posts like this because they are confusing as heck. This could be the most unneccessary soft claim, or this could be a bait, or this could be anything.
I always ask myself why a town should do this, the last time I saw someone do this they ended up masons with someone and they got lynched.

Anyone beat me to this.

Also I see Long Con and KZA are voted currently. I feel whenever I play here Long Con gets voted somehow. Will drop my opinions once I am cought up.
1. rej piggybacks off of the same reasoning that dom/sloonei were pressuring me for. this is strange to me only because rej outright says: "the last time i saw someone do this, they ended up being town." it felt like he was nitpicking at the particulars of my playstyle more than he was trying to glean alignment indicative information out of it

this would all be fine and good if he didn't echo the exact same read again 30ish hours later (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&p=737871#p737871)

2. rej brings up the dynamic of the gamestate (ie: long con and kza are being voted) and makes no commentary about it - choosing instead to promise more content in the future (which of course, never actually ends up coming)

there's also him asking a question about c4 on viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&p=737061#p737061, and then never following up with it. or outing a townread on sloonei/dom on viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&p=737854#p737854 because they "ping him the least". it all just feels fairly shallow and like rej is struggling to maintain a solvey tone without actually .....solving

the thing that i like the most about rej is him calling himself mischop bait, lol

bump

I am fairly aware of my own play and how townie/scummy it is and I don't think there's a marked jump in towniness
oh i forgot to respond to this

it's actually a little bit hard to explain - the difference is really just in how methodical your analysis is

like for example, this is how you responded to me in bread mafia when i asked you for your read on me:
Alison wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:08 am
staypositivefriend wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:01 am alison what made u go from scumleaning me to townreading me? the progression was pretty swift
I'm sorta null on you atm. My reason for scumreading you was that you seemed a little too quick to townread Dk even though you repped seeing them as a really scary scum player who you'd be paranoid to townread too easily. You had an okay response that shows you've put some thought into how scum!Dk would act here, which is congruent with seeing them as a strong scum player. So that soothes most of my concerns with your townread on Dk.

You haven't really stood out as town the way I know you can, but the biggest actual concern I had with you was satisfied, so I'm just nullish on you right now.
it's a fine post, but it's also very A to B to C. your intent was probably to get me off of your back

here's a post from you in this game where you described your read/opinion of me:
Alison wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 4:15 pm

Esooa wrote: Mon Mar 01, 2021 3:20 pm @Sloonei I think your points make sense and I like them

I wanna ask about something else now though which is, I'd rather move on from this at this point (which maybe is a bit selfish because I understand your point and don't need to talk about it more while others might) though, because I think it'd be better in the case spf is town to not push it for the next 28 hours we have, and still useful if she's mafia anyway

This is me saying I think SPF could be mafia but I also want to find her town, and if you wanna do the same our way to do that right now is drop the push until tonight imo
as I made this post like 5 other people said something similar which makes me uncomfortable, though
my take on SPF is that as much as she would like to pretend to be a tryhard player who brings energy to the game she's not-so-secretly in it for the fun of interacting with people she enjoys playing with, which is why her play amps up when she gets to play with hally tutuu etc., and because of this she routinely tries to engage the thread as a whole with high-effort stuff like reaction tests, asking for thoughts on X and minigames (GTH games, trust falls) as either alignment. I've seen similar patterns of behavior play out even when SPF is town where she does something "tryhard", doesn't seem to have the conviction to really fish for reactions or scum thinking behind it, and gets scumread for not contributing enough or not having authentic enough solving.

the upshot of all this is that I don't really see much of her play up until this point as being really powerfully indicative of alignment. it's just bread and butter SPF stuff. if mac or sloonei does a reaction test and there's no bite behind it then maybe someone's a wolf. but if SPF or tutuu does a reaction test and there's no bite behind it then they're just being their usual high energy high participation look at me selves.
in both cases, your stances are the same (SPF null), but the way you speak about the read is considerably different

in bread mafia, you were content to nullread me and then let me fall into the POE - that was the extent of the "solving" you did for my alignment, save for a few softball questions

in this game, you are content to nullread me, but your nullread comes with highly specific conditions (ie: "spf can be inno child in a couple of days", "spf is being pushed on for similar reasons to bread mafia"), and most importantly, your nullread on me is not the end of your attempts to solve me. i've noticed a similar dynamic with your reads in this game in general - they feel considerably more fluid and thoughtful, as vague as that might come off

i can expand on this further if you really want

The fact should make you even more concerned. We have 26 slots to sort, chop chop.
You may be feeling a bit of extra urgency if these phases are shorter than you're used to. This is a relatively slow start, but I'm not concerned about the pace. It's the weekend, we have four active games on this site right now, lots of people just don't seem to be here right now. They'll show up.
I couldn't care less about the people that aren't here. Someone is here and is actively choosing to keep the game slow.
i would argue that my choice to not immediately share my two early townleans is provoking more conversation than it would if i had chosen to share them immediately

i just dont feel a sense of urgency about this game, in all honesty. the majority of people not posting on a sunday does not concern me - there's still a lot of time
Okay fine it's not scummy anymore but it's still annoying af. The discussion it's provoking is one guy saying "spf bad". That's it.

it happened in radiohead mafia. it happened in bread mafia. it happened in my hydra game with hally. it happened in rocks falls invitational

and every time i face that pressure, there's almost always some scum that tries a little bit too hard to defend me/dismiss the concerns about me, as a way to look townier when my alignment is eventually revealed

i haven't felt that level of TMI from anyone but foresight and maybe BoKnows, tbh
in fairness, kza and poison fit this description too

moreso kza - cause they echo'd the sentiment of: "it's annoying that SPF has to answer the same questions over and over", which is TRUE, but it was so similar to my own complaint that it made me worried they were speaking from a place of TMI

but since there's so many people who fit this particular description, it might not be worth pursuing as a foundation for my reads. it's just something i'm keeping in the back of my mind, because i have the unique perspective of knowing that i'm town and being able to analyze the dynamics of the momentum around me more easily

addendum to that addendum:

there's usually one scum that subtly signal boosts the early momentum against me without directly playing into it. sometimes the scum is hands-on if it's an aggressive player that wants someone they perceive as an "easy target" to pick on, but the signal boosting usually comes in the form of: "yeah, spf might be scum" or etc

i don't feel that sloonei or dom (the two main people who have spearheaded the momentum against me) fit that description

rej does fit that description to an extent - he dropped a vague "i got pinged by this post" suspicion about the same post that sloonei/dom were pressuring me about (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&p=737059#p737059), and then dipped out of the thread again

urist did the same thing - lazily marked me as "enclave" and then dipped out of the thread while avoiding directly interacting with me (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2055&p=736688#p736688) - concerning to me that he reiterated the same read a little while later with no visible progression or solving inbetween. and ive pointed this out already, but what happened to his incredibly confident scumread on long con? why is it absent from this post?

i was briefly concerned about falcon because he reacted to sloonei's posts about me with a basic: "yeah, i think spf is more likely mafia than not", but the way he talked with me/interacted with me didn't really feel like it carried the underlying mindset of someone who was worried about me. it felt like he was trying to sell me into his perspective as opposed to trying to read my perspective - but i do think his perspective around BoKnows in particular (the thought that bo was avoiding him to avoid getting "tone caught") was a pretty unique one that's more likely to come from a town mindset than not

this might not be important to anyone but me, but i wanted to share my thought process re: the early momentum on me and how it's impacted my perception of the game
