Hey all! Not sure how many of our members are familiar with the mafia variant Town of Salem, but we've been invited to a ToS championship held on Discord over the winter in a format similar to the Mafia Universe championship.

INVITATION TO DISCORD TOWN OF SALEM CHAMPIONSHIP

I’m very excited to invite your community to participate in the inaugural Discord Town of Salem Championship.

The Discord ToS Championship is an annual tournament that will follow a similar format to the MU Mafia Championship. Games will be held on Discord and will feature a Town of Salem rolelist with a few extra roles and mechanics. Like the Mafia Championship, each participating community will elect one player to represent them.

DO YOU ACCEPT THE INVITATION?

If your community wishes to participate, please confirm your participation to sheriffraff as soon as you can to secure yourself a spot. For the first season, we plan to keep the event to 45 communities, but we hope to grow this in future years.

If your community agrees to participate, the deadline for selecting your representative is December 22nd, but the sooner the better.

The games will take place on the Testing Grounds Discord Mafia server. You can join this server here. You are also encouraged to join the main TG server here if you would like to discuss potential roles for future competitions and participate in small events we may hold concurrently with the tournament.

Important notes
You may decide yourselves how you want to elect your representative, but we highly recommend some sort of democratic process (public nominations followed by a poll usually works out well).
In addition to electing a representative, you should also name an alternate (a back-up) who will be asked to step in if the first choice needs to back out.
Your representative should be prepared for having to read upwards of 2,000 messages per 24 hours during the early stages of the game. Additionally, there’s a requirement that each player must send at least 25 messages per Game Day. Only active players should apply/participate. I repeat: Your chosen player needs to be able to promise a good amount of activity on a daily basis!
Each game will have a host and a cohost. Hosts and cohosts were selected through an application process and all have experience hosting games of this and similar formats. We will also have several community members work as general overseers to further safeguard against potential host errors.

SEASON 1 FORMAT

The tournament structure
45 communities will participate, each sending one representative.
QUALIFIERS: 3 Qualifier Games will be played, consisting of 15 players each. i.e. every representative plays in one Qualifier Game. The players themselves vote post-game to determine who is deserving of advancement along with the host and cohost. The top 5 most voted players will advance to the finals.
THE FINALE: The Finale Game will be played using the same rolelist. Once it has completed, the players vote to determine who shall receive the title of Season 1 Champion, and the results will be determined the same way as qualifier advancement.

All games will be played with a DARK Matrix setup. The details of this setup are as follows:

No more than two Town Killing roles can exist in any game.

Relevant mechanics info
Day start. No player will be eliminated during Day 1.
All games will have a 24/24 day/night cycles
From Day 2 onwards, majority elimination will be enabled at 12 hours after SoD.
If no player receives a majority of their votes by the end of the day, no player will be eliminated.
No outside communication. You may not contact other players about the game outside game-specific channels. This includes the public day chat, your personal channel, and the Mafia/Coven chat.
All players may send and receive an unlimited number of whispers during the day. All whispers must be sent through the Ashley bot.
Thread is locked during Night Phases.
Mafia share a factional Night Kill, which is a single standard shot for their faction.
Any action that is marked as Astral will not trigger any abilities that rely on that player visiting its target.
Attack levels are None < Basic < Powerful < Unstoppable and defense levels are None < Basic < Powerful < Invincible. If a killer’s attack value exceeds their target’s defense value, the target will die.
The Mafia and Coven may only communicate in their chat at night. Their channel will be locked during the day.
All games will have a host and cohost to oversee everything and make sure everyone is following the code of conduct as well as to process night actions. Voting and whispers are automated through Ashley.
Players may write a last will of unlimited length that will be revealed upon death. Players may edit their will at any time and should write it in their private channel.
Non-Town members with killing roles may write a death note that will be revealed upon killing another player. Players may edit their death note at any time and should write it in their private channel.

SEASON 1 TIMELINE

There will be 3 Qualifier Games, and your representative plays in just one of these. They will have start dates ranging from mid-December to mid-January. So in other words, as long as your representative can play sometime during that period, they should be good and I’ll make sure they get scheduled into a game that suits their schedule well.

The Final Game will most likely be played in early February. We will work with participants to find a time that works for everyone.

MAYBE I should have said this long ago, and don't take this as me reciting a cliché: It is really an honour to get nominated, sometimes I doubt that I can even play this game, and my name being mentioned means a lot to me. ALSO though, hard no. :lol: I took a hiatus because I started a new career, and my schedule changed (drastically, one might say, from 2020), and I thought I couldn't fit Mafia in reliably. I just came back, and it seems ok, but I can't be going for extras. Thank you very much, though.
