I wanted to get a vote on Sig early because I was hoping it would generate new conversatiok about a new player in the game, rather than continuing to keep the focus on Cobalt and LC all day again. But now my vote is stuck there all day and it looks like that has to be final. Oh well. Sorry sig. You are a top suspect right now, I'll get to a case when I can (I finally have other things to do tonight :o).

while i'm not explaining my vote for sig, it is my hope that anyone who comes into the thread will discuss a multitude of names and keep a collective open mind.

I'm actually hoping TIny can come in and bandwagon on sig, like she(he?) says she(he?) is wont to do.

Hey all, I haven't had a chance to read any of the game since I last posted. I've been SUPER swamped and I didn't have a chance to even log on the internet for more than a few minutes until now. Sadly, I have homework to juggle, which takes priority over catching up. I just thought I'd let you know that I may be very absent for a little while here.

If Dom has a willing replacement who really wants to play, I'll probably sub out, but otherwise I'll keep playing, just won't be active much.

@Mp - keep playing, just prove to yourself you can play a game where you aren't super active ;) it can be done! (Not that I'd know)

Mine certainly mentions a number of civ roles - three in brackets at the end for starters. That match anyone?

Dom, once again, what are the rules here. If I solve it, posting my solved book would not be quoting your PM, but would it be within the spirit of your rule?

I've got a different thing. Three sentences, the last of which seems to mention Sondheim with a couple other names after.

those "other names" are actually songs/roles, and there is an open bracket but no closing one, so i missed that. We may have the same things after all.

Different letters?

I had 5 very common letters present.

I'm glad to see it's actually about a mafia member, not about a civilian role. I've solved much of it now.

I love Dom as a host, he is a very quick responder.

I think I have it solved basically, some of the flavour text I haven't but it is a baddie role. I think there is a possibility of a civvie being corrupted. Now my dear host wouldn't confirm this to me but I think it might be a recruitment possibility. If one team has it the other team might as well.

I just stupidly realized the other team has four members so they won't necessarily have a recruit. :phew:

RIP and WB Epig! Sorry to see ya go, MP!

@DOM, if the death post appears to be written to the tune of West Side Story, does that mean Epig 1.0 was West Side Story? Is there a direct link between tune and role?

So I got what appears to be a baddie's role description in my book, and I've got the bulk of it decoded. Dom seems to have deliberately used an unclear/vague word to describe what the role does, though, but it seems like it may affect certain civ roles somehow.

So before I cast a vote on who I currently suspect, I want to hear from all the crew that are apparently still in this game but are currently backstage sleeping together on the Equity cot.
@BirdwithTeeth11
@Bullzeye
@Devin
@Canucklehead
@Dream
@fingersplints
@MetalMarsh89 (I KNOW you're here, I see you voting on shit)
@TGG

And welcome to the game, Epi 2.0. Wonder if your strategy is going to be any different.

I guess @Dom the fact that Epi was allowed back in means his first role didn't have any special abilities that would give him more knowledge in the game? Because that would be, you know, unfair.

That's a good list, Mr. Scotty. Thee is a lot of day left, and I'm pretty sure I'll be voting for Cobalt, but that leaves plenty of time for those players to catch up and provide some insight! For the record, I am helping run a charity casino night tomorrow (I get to run the blackjack table) and I work, so don't be shocked to hardly hear from me until Sunday.

I think I have the bit you are referring to, I'm only missing the first sentence. I don't think it gives us much about 'how' - even solved, the words seem intentionally vague.

I'm wondering what the unclear words are people are referring to, and if they are the words I found hardest to solve. The word before the brackets took me a while, but when I solved it I realised it was flavour text.

Ok, I think I have the lot now, and I agree it points to some ability that corrupts specific civilians. It's hard to know if it's a recruit or not, especially given three possible targets. It's unclear whether or not the thing will work with all three of them, if so it seems unlikely it would be a recruit. If it only works on the first, then it would make sense that it's a recruit.

I feel like I'm still unable to solve the means of the corruption.

How would recruiting work anyway?
Corruption would make more sense if he could, like, pick someone during the night phase, ask if he guessed correctly that character as 1 of the 3, that role will die at the end of the next day. Or something to that effect. :eek:

Looks like Epi was West Side Story. That sucks.
...what no
I'm fairly convinced that the song lyrics are written by a "messenger" role, someone who sends some thoughts in the form of a song to Dom to get published anonymously. Like it's obviously written by a player and not Dom because it states the belief that Cobalt is mafia. And this person would presumably have no way of knowing Epi's role? Also roles are almost never revealed for NKs. To me a messenger role is the only interpretation of the lyrics in the night post that makes sense.

Anyway, RIP Epi and WB Epi 2.0, sorry to see you go MP.

(I know it's fairly common practice now but I always find it a little weird when players replace back in after being NKed. Because it basically confirms that Epi was a lone civvie with no BTSC because the host probably wouldn't let him back in if he had info beyond his previous role -- but since he was NKed he still has information about a role that's dead that the rest of us don't have. Idk it just makes me feel a little uncomfortable.)

My thoughts on Epi getting NKed: Usually when a nightkill target during the first couple nights of the game is someone who has been strongly pushing suspicion against someone else, I tend to think it is the baddies' attempt to frame the suspected party. (Can get complicated and WIFOMy though, like if the suspected party really is on the offending team and thinks "nobody will think I actually targeted the person who pushed for my lynch, they'll think it was a frameup" -- that's possible, and maybe this frameup would be too easy) but I'm inclined to think it could be an attempt to frame LC. Which just makes me all the more suspicious of Cobalt for today.

another thought on the messenger role: sometimes these roles are given bits of info (sometimes not all true info), so it's possible they heard a little birdie say Cobalt was bad. seems less likely they would get info before their night 1 post though, so I'm inclined to think it's just someone with a strong suspicion of Cobalt.

Sorry for posting so many times in a row, and for being so rambly, but my thoughts are going a mile a minute. But I guess I could see it either way. Epi was really gunning hard for Cobalt too by the end of the day, so maybe it was more of a Cobalt frame. Maybe LC and Cobalt are trying to frame each other. Or even better, they're both bad, maybe they're teammates after all and Cobalt's trying to pull a daredevil distancing strategy.

Wait, what kind of system allows someone who dies to sub back into the game as a different role?

What even? Like, that's FOREIGN to me. How is that allowed?

I forgot to vote for the damn book. Did everyone get the same text to decode? My first thought is maybe it's SVS's role.

It looks as though we all got the same gist. It's not SVS's role. It' talks of a leader of the mafia (I don't know if Dom will allow me to name him) and how he can possibly corrupt 1 of 3 named civ roles.

If Epig 1 was a civ, he died night 1 and presumably, if he had a night action, did not get to learn the results of it. Thus, Epig 2 has the same vantage on the game as Epig 1, except for the knowledge of his former, dead role. On a technical level, if he was civ and is now a baddie, it gives the baddies a minor leg up as thy would know a dead civ role they shouldn't. But the impact isn't huge.

Also, if Epig 1 were bad, he could only have subbed back in to the same team, so in that scenario, Epig 1 and MP7 would have to be baddie teamies.

No other scenario is fair, and seldom do we see any other unfair scenario on the site. Had Epig 1 died on, say, night3 or 4, if he had had nigt actions, I would assume he would not be allowed to sub back in. Night 1 allows the host a bit of leeway. And I need to go to bed.
My siggie.

@nutella - perhaps the messenger wanted us to know that THEY are west side story.

I didn't read the lyrics closely enough, and when you see it expresses that Cobalt is bad then it's clear you are right, it's written by a player.

Your first thought is definitely wrong (hard for you when you don't have the PM to look at though), it is clearly a specific role that is not SVS's role.

Yep, I was able to fully decode it and it lines up with this.

I love decoding. :cloud9:

And yes Golden that's a possibility. It's also possible that Dom asks them to use a different musical each night (of his choosing or theirs). :shrug: Idk, whatever the case may be I always admire people in those roles who really do a great job with fitting lyrics/meter/etc guidelines. I think, iirc, I was one in a game once that had to write in iambic pentameter - great fun :D
