A Tale of Two Civvies: Charles Dickens Mafia

#1

Post by DFaraday »

CHARLES DICKENS MAFIA

I think it's long overdue that we have a game celebrating one of the greatest authors of all time, the inestimable Charles Dickens! Dickens' greatest strength was his huge array of memorable and wonderfully crafted characters, so here's a chance for those characters to interact in a web of intrigue, unexpected twists, and sudden disasters. Mafia is perfect for Dickens!

This is still a rough draft, but I'll continue honing the roles.

CIVVIES

Image
David Copperfield - A resilient young man, David has a 50% chance of deflecting any night ability he is targeted with.

Image
Oliver Twist - Although Oliver's destiny is constantly being shaped by those around him, he can always ask for more gruel. His vote counts for two in each lynch.

Image
Amy Dorrit - Miss Dorrit will come into a great inheritance on a random night in the game. When this happens, she will gain a different ability to use every night.

Image
Arthur Clennam - Arthur searches for Amy every night. If he finds her, they gain BTSC.

Image
Bob Cratchit - Kindhearted Bob will protect a player every night.

Image
Tiny Tim is so guileless he melts even the coldest heart. Each night he will invite a player to spend Christmas with him, blocking them for the night.

Image
Little Nell - Nell is the purest young soul England has ever known, and too good for this sinful earth. If she is lynched, the next night will be skipped due to mourning.

Image
Esther Summerson - Having been caught up in the sticky case of Jarndyce and Jarndyce, Esther can insanify a player by reading legal documents to them each night.

Image
Sydney Carton - Sydney cannot let an innocent man die. He may stop one lynch and switch another.

Image
Mr. Micawber - A goodnatured man, but not the most rational. Mr. Micawber tries to help a player each night, but removes them from the poll instead.

Image
Nancy - Nancy starts out cowed by Sikes, but she gradually finds her courage. Every other day, Nancy's vote will increase in value by 1.

Image
The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future - The Ghosts search for Ebenezer Scrooge every night. SECRET

Image
Philip 'Pip' Pirrip - Pip wishes to distance himself from his humble past, so each night he will post his thoughts in an eloquent letter.

Image
Nicholas Nickleby - A bit more fiery than some of Dickens' other protagonists, Nicholas will search for evildoers and kill every even night.

Image
Martin Chuzzlewit - Young Martin seeks to honor his father (Old Martin) by resurrecting a player once in the game.

Image
Edwin Drood - SECRET

The Insufferable Institution

Image
Mr. Bumble sends in the kill for his team every odd night. He also will survive the first attempt on his life.

Image
Thomas Gradgrind - Mr. Gradgrind is obsessed with efficiency and facts. He will role check a player every night.

Image
Uriah Heep - Heep is smarmy and conniving, and may control one player's vote each day.

Image
Jonas Chuzzlewit - Jonas is happy doing the dirty work for the team. He has an additional kill he may use once in the game.

The Malicious Miscreants

Image
Bill Sikes - Sikes is a brute and happily carries out the team's kill every even night. SECRET

Image
Miss Havisham - Miss Havisham was spurned by her love and hates all men. Each night, she will target a player. If that player's character is male, he will begin the next day with two additional votes on him.

Image
Quilp - Quilp may be small, but he's as cruel and calculated as they come. He will redirect a player each night to a target of his choice.

INDEPENDENT

Image
Fagin - Fagin runs a gang of pickpockets, and he's always looking for more recruits. Every odd night Fagin will recruit a player into his gang. Fagin's gang win if the living members outnumber the civvies at any point in the game.

Image
Artful Dodger - The Dodger is already part of Fagin's gang, and as such has BTSC with him. He may also steal a player's ability on odd nights, to be used on even nights.

Image
Rigaud - This psychotic Frenchman will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals. He will kill every odd night. SECRET

Image
Ebenezer Scrooge - SECRET

It's certainly a time commitment, but well worth it. Or you could watch the PBS versions, they're usually pretty good.

And for the record, I didn't include any characters from Our Mutual Friend because I know nothing about it. I want it to be the very last Dickens work I ever read. :D

Never managed more than 10 chapters off Great Expectations. Nothing else.

Oh I read them all when I was a kid, I was a regular Dickens freak. I was the only kid who raised my hand the day my 8th grade class started Great Expectations when the teacher asked if anyone had ever read it. Took a lot of flak for that.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but there seems to be more than two civvies. I just don't know what to make of that.

It's a TALE of two civilians. Meaning only two of them are important. I've got my money on Twist and Tiny Tits. Could be a real Titty Twister there.
