Why is Speedchuck free falling?

He gets graded on a curve against all the other students in the class (a class which is entirely populated by previous versions of speedchuck in other games) as a product of his recent cross-alignment success. He's gotten involved nicely, but none of his posts have made me feel anything. On the speedchuck curve that's orange.

Speedchuck is choosing to make jokes instead of defend himself or push another train or find scum.

One time I lolcated in an hcrealms game (a poor stall tactic until my teammate could come online and hammer) and somebody took my gifs to be a claim (of a character who had already died) and removed their vote from me. Won undeservingly.

There is exactly zero reason that should demotivate you. It's a commendation of your skill in the mafia alignment. Am I supposed to give you a pass if I don't think you look like a civilian? What do you expect?

well to be fair to speedchuck, it's possible that he has conceded as you say..but i dont think that necessarily means that he's mafia. If he's civ, he may think that it's pointless to fight back at this point with you being the leader of the lynch wagon. I dunno. You might be right and he's bad, but I don't think giving up means you are correct in your vote.

Ive only played 3 games in the past 2or 3 years so i could just be out of practice, but I have seen many a day one lynch go like this one seems to be going..and it's been rare in my experience that the lynch wagon actually caught a baddie.

Motivation in a vacuum does not dictate alignment.

Motivation in a specific context where it is characteristic of a game's progression has more meaning.

Giving up doesn't indicate he's bad. I stated all of my concrete suspicions in my ISO of him.

I have no idea why he's doing this now regardless of his alignment. It doesn't make sense for a civilian or a mafioso.

By the way Eloh: I think it's great that you make an effort to get your thoughts into the game as you are catching up. By all means continue doing that.

What I like about this post: she acknowledged both sides of the read on me and still came to a conclusive stance, that I am very likely a civilian. She poked nutella in a meaningful way. In response to my nova/rey flub she actually prodded rey, which I think is interesting and fun.

What I like less: she dismissed nutella's suspicion of rey too easily.

She promptly turned her opinion around on speedchuck in response to the above post. I don't object to the progression really. She's working in real-time. I would like to know though, Elohcin, why you had read speedchuck as a civilian before this moment?

Churck's demeanor seemed civ from the get-go. But, just as I usually see nutella as bad, I usually see chuck as good. I need to put my preconceptions out of my mind.

Meh. I asked him this because he'd called Elohcin a civilian in his 2/2 and then a mafioso in his GTH reads. The switch doesn't have to be a problem. I suspected though that he'd forgotten his own fake read and gave her a red in the GTH, because mafia members need reds and she was an easy one given her low post count.

...and he did forget.

Apart from the indie thing, you're not far off here. Most of the things that I say and do in any Day 0/1 period is intended to generate a productive environment wherein the civilians have a reasonable opportunity to develop reads (both now and into future phases). I am playing the motivator and facilitator roles I described in the linked thread there. I think most successful civilian teams need someone doing these things.

That isn't to say I don't care about speedchuck's alignment though. I do. It isn't imperative to lynch a mafioso on Day 1, and the sky won't be falling if there's a mislynch. A correct lynch is still obviously preferred though, and I am trying my best to promote suspicions that I think are most likely to yield that result.

I appreciate you fixing your "speedchuck is good at things" sentiment to be actually accurate.

I am not so great at hunting. I cannot recall a town game where I headed up the town effort, or even substantially contributed to it, outside of night action tomfoolery. Maybe Phenon Origins counts, but other than that. :P

I don't need you to do anything with it. I apologize if I've frustrated you. I don't really blame you, it's all on me. And no, it doesn't make sense for me to be demotivated, but I never claimed I make sense.

At the moment, I have three options.
I can make a defeatist post that just makes everyone feel bad after the flip. Rubbish. This lynch is my fault, my silly and careless steps have made me look bad.
I can make a big desperate emotional defense or lash out at the suspicions against me. But I hate emotional defenses, and it'd probably just make me look worse.
I can actually pick my butt up and spend the last hours of this day hunting like a madman to find the actual scumteam, giving post-mortem verified reads for everyone to follow up on. That would be the right thing to do. Maybe I'll do a little, but I don't have that much time right now. Certainly not enough time to dig my way out of this hole.

For what it's worth, I appreciate those trying to defend me and I think it comes from a town standpoint.

It's the same attitude that had the townies flopping every lynch in the Socky's game, good or bad. "This lynch is forming too fast, it must be bad!" It saved DDL for a day (scum), saved Reywas for a day (town)... might have saved Sabie if not for nutella's claim throwing a wrench in the final day.
