Wow, that's impressive. What's your favorite board game you own?

My main hobby other than mafia is certainly music -- I've lost long track of how many albums I've heard past the 3000 number.

I'm very sad to report that my music taste is fairly narrow, I mostly enjoy rock with female vocalists, I want to say Evanescence is my all time fave.

My favorite board game is definitely Notre Dame. Here's a photo of what it looks like:

That looks intriguing! I've never heard of it.

Also, as to music... Rate Your Music, Resident Advisor, Pitchfork, ProgArchives, etc. etc. That's in addition to word of mouth via other music fans. I would say RYM is the best place out of those to find musical discoveries.

Music & singin, following the Oakland A's, watching bad horror/sci-fi movies, video reviews for an online retailer, languages, dealing with my crazy pets (bird, cat, dog), working out and spending as much time with my sweetie as I can. Nearly anything creative will do though. I also have a line of "Oh no!! I'm naked!" signatures that have become a way for me to make witty (or not so witty) commentary on the things I see in my daily life.

I'm majorly into movies. Like, majorly. I go to film fests, occasionally i manage to get press credentials, thanks to being a member of the international cinephile society (icsfilm.org), it's a blast.

I am into music but not anywhere near the level some of you are. I second the mention of rateyourmusic.com as a great site to discover new music. just in the last couple of years I found The National and Joanna Newsom through them.

I do taekwondo as well and get beaten up and beat others up about once a week or so.

Oh, and as for board games, it's all about Settlers of Catan for me.

BF! You do have a pretty rockin' thread.

I know you love the board games, and you posted your fave. What are some others you like?

I think Candyland is still my favorite board game. Mostly because I get to play it with kids. :)

I remember when I played a lot of board games though, I liked trouble a lot oh - and sorry! OMG - so many family dinners that we played sorry! after!! I loved clue! I was pretty fond of battleship (so long as I wasn't playing with the cousin who would move his ships around. :( ) Stratigo was fun to play with my siblings. But if it was high stakes I was all about the Risk. Once I played Axis and Allies and it was the most amazing board game experience I'd ever had. The whole week of it!

When I was a REALLY little kid, my Uncle Jim had a board game version of Family Feud. It was the holiday tradition to play it once dishes were done. This happened like every year till I hit my teen years. Uncle Jim would always be the "host" and his Richard Dawson impersonation became the stuff of family legend. My grandparents, and all my aunties and uncles and my parents and my brother, my cousin and I would all be on teams. From young me - to my great great auntie - THAT was some good times. I learned a lot about jokes during those games. How some of them were funny to me -some of them were funny to my parents and some of them would just make aunt Ruthie giggle like no tomorrow.

I admit - also to an affection for the classics. I love to play chess, but suck at it. I tend to drive chess players mad as I know how the pieces move but I have no strategy. I used to play backgammon a bunch with my dad when I was a kid, but don't have the opportunity to play it now.

I liked upwords, I fracking HATE scrabble. Scrabble is a math game that pretends to be a word game.

I love trivia games, but I admit, I'm more about just reading the cards and answering the questions than actually moving pieces around the board. *blush*

Just like there are movie genres and literature genres surely there are board game genres - if so, what kind of board games do you most like?

Timmer! I never properly responded to this! (I was too distracted when I saw it, by posting about your picture. ;) ) I really love a good movie too. And I like all kinds. Really, I get yelled at bunches about "the weird stuff I watch." What movies would you recommend that people see that are out of the ordinary? Like as in - not much attention has been given to them, but they deserve to be seen?

I'm not against subtitles. I searched three counties back in the day to own a version of LIfe is Beautiful that was in Italian. I'm also - obviously, not against foreign flicks. I will say, I tend to shy away from action movies and horror movies unless they are REALLY well done. I will watch well made war movies and action movies, but really - horror as a genera is one I tend to do better reading than watching. I've seen some. I have fond memories of the Nightmare movies and the Hellraiser movies (at least the first 3) but they are the weakest genres for me.

Old or new movies - I'm cool with too. I love old Hepburn and Tracy movies. I loved Citizen Kane. Black and white doesn't scare me. I just like well made things. :)

Would love your input about "must see things." I may have missed. :)

What film festivals do you go to? I've been to Savannah, Sarasota and Gasparilla. Pretty much yearly on the latter two. I used to have press credentials as well -- through Gainesville Sun - I wrote movie reviews and analysis for their Gainesville24-7.com site back in the day. Now I run my website just for fun (see my sig). Right now I'm obsessed with John Cassavetes.

You've succinctly put your finger on why I hate scrabble too. Any game where measly two letter word played the right way beats a long, impressive seven letter word is not a proper word game.

Thank you - even more to the point - what I hate hearing the most is how eee is a word. I'm all "that's impossible. that is not a word. I dare you to define it." and the reply? "I can't use it in a sentence but it's in the Scrabble dictionary so it counts that's 10 bazzilon points for me, I win again!!!!"

See, the problem here is that I only ever played the game with a calc. professor online when we would take breaks from work. It really hit home the math aspect of the game. Stoopid maff profie. :( :pout:

I hate when people try to spell out letters of the alphabet. "Z is spelled zee." No it isn't! In no written document ever in the history of mankind has Z been spelt zee... except the scrabble dictionary. When I play word games, I always have a house rule that you can't use a word if you don't know what it means.

This is why I like Boggle and Quiddler, but not Scrabble. I have not played Scrabble since I had to ask if I could spell EIEIO. I had no consonants and it was awful. Playing with people who have memorized the two letter word list is just impossible as well.

My favourite scrabble words are "QI" and "ZAP". :)

What is your opinion on using "zed" as a word as well? I have seen people do that, too. Apparently Wikipedia lists "Zed" and "Z" (NOT "zee"). I agree with you about Zee, not sure about Zed, though.

My sister uses a Words With Friends cheat site, I recently discovered. Once she showed me a list of words, and there was one I had never heard of, so i clicked on it, and it said "No Known definition" and "Is an acceptable WWF word". WTF??? What is the point?

That was when I stopped playing. I thought my sister was a genius for knowing words like "glip" but it turns out that not only was she cheating, WWF itself cheats :WTF:

Yeah "zed" is how they pronounce "Z" in England.

Scrabble turns honest citizens into unsavory, unflinching chronic cheaters.

I tend to be more lenient about allowing zed, but I still don't think people in England write the letter as "zed." They write it as Z and pronounce it zed.

I love obscure words if they are good words. But "za" as an abbreviation for pizza is just ridiculous.
