A butt load of people have town cleared themselves. Its fine for there to be a lot of town reads. The town that are relatively inclined to vanity hunt should reserve their desire to do so for day 1.

fwiw im having trouble finding my footing in this game. there's a lot of meta so it makes it harder to jump into my scumhunting, and i also don't feel particularly inclined to sort all 20+ players like i would in a normal game

i'm probably just going to hang out in this thread until i find something worth talking about, and also ISO people of interest that im trying to read more carefully. something about tim's tone earlier in the thread bothered me quite and i wanna figure out why

Because I thought you were maybe onto something there. I have a number of reasons I could offer for "playing wolfy" on day one myself. But if I got on one of these "rand wolf streaks" that I have seen people get on I think it would have an impact. Like I recently played a homesite game after another vicious wolf game and I came out just playing town wildman to the point where I got N1Ked...over Pizza absurdly enough. It does seem odd that after a string of wolf rands Ted would open with the playing wolfy as baiting strategy.

Does it seem to you like after you called him on it he shifted to "towning it up"? Do you trust that isn't a fake?

@Timsup2nothin come on. This is not a wolf trying to push some shady agenda. This is town who thinks they've found a lead and are suspicious that they're getting pushback on it. This is a townie response.

The strange parallels continue. There were people saying almost this exact thing about Ted in Upick2. They were right, in that it was "a very townie response" from Ted then. The problem was that later we found out Ted was actually a wolf.

But, like, his reads are so bad and disagreeable, and then there was that really, really weird accusation that came totally out of the blue of Mac being Rogue.

Has anyone else even mentioned Rogue besides that joke claim at the very start of the game? No, we've all forgotten that the 3P exists. We're focused on the town vs mafia aspect of the game. Not Samu though! He remembers Rogue exists. Rogue is on his mind, to the point where he rejects much more natural conclusions ("Mac is a mixed bag" "Mac is null" "I can't sort Mac") in favor of a real reach to call Mac 3P. I genuinely believe that this is a >>rand 3P tell, and I can show you a game where 3P outed their alignment exactly like this.

It would explain all the stuff I found confusing about him. He seems so agenda-less and his tone is so pure because he really doesn't have an agenda (or at least not the kind of agenda we expect from scum), and he really isn't trying to manipulate anyone. He's doing something completely different from the war between town and scum. He's giving reads like they're obligatory, because he isn't really invested in solving. They're bad reads because he doesn't put thought into them and he doesn't follow up on them, but they aren't constructed to feed a certain narrative or undermine certain players because he genuinely doesn't care.

To me this read makes a lot of sense and it ties all the threads of Samu's behavior together neatly. I'd really like to sit on this wagon and see how far I can ride it.

Well...no on pretty much all fronts here.

I think Oddmerta is worth conversing with further. That really isn't the same as "I think he's a wolf." I don't make that kind of committed judgement, either way, based on a quarter of a phase worth of mostly fluff posting in which not even all the players have started to participate. Mac is the one post reader, not me.

I similarly have very little interest in who does or doesn't think that I'm town at this point, because I know I haven't DONE anything yet. I've SAID stuff, but there is genuinely nothing I can say as town that I am somehow incapable of saying as a wolf. As Mac said while NOT one post reading me, I am an avocado. I have to produce results within a reasonable period of time or I should get sussed and chopped, but it won't be day one. So don't worry about "using your clout" or shielding me. Getting face to face, and in the face, of people who suss me is how I sort the misguided townies from the opportunistic wolves.

By the way, if by chance Oddmerta turns out to be a wolf, the most likely buddy looking person so far would have to be you. You do seem sort of protective.
