I won't be here this evening, but I'm here now. BDH, I know we had a little spat this last go-around b/c I really thought Epi was civ, but I see I was wrong. I'd like to hear your thoughts before I vote.

Sorry Russ/Henry...but your death WON'T be in vain.

ELoh, I cab get past yesterday. You didn't follow me and look at the results. I'm asking you to follow me now and to help make history in what will be transcribed in the hallowed halls of mafia as one of THE SINGLEMOST epic comeback wins ever!

BWT is the final cop...well, the final CROOKED cop, at least. If you want the civs to win (and win with US), you gotta vote as I do.

*votes BWT*

So I know this seems as though the game has been decided, but we're still going to wait on BWT to cast his vote before ending the game. Just so that he can contribute to the most anticlimactic LYLO I've ever seen, and you know, because there is potential for vote manipulation in this game. :mafia:

You know what? Screw it. I'm ending it my way.

Good win, civs. With all the unused kills we couldn't fulfill, we dug ourselves in a hole from the start. I'm proud of what INH and I managed to accomplish and the fact we almost pulled a win our of our asses is impressive given I thought he was going to get lynched much earlier than he actually did.

Sucks that I came soooooo close to winning, but it is what it is. Definitely enjoyed the hell out of this game.

ROLE SECRETS

Shawn Spencer – Solves clues to Yin and Yang puzzles in an attempt to save their kill target from death. At any point, Shawn may reluctantly ask his father, Henry, for help. In exchange, Shawn must offer an item; if Henry accepts the item, then Shawn’s upcoming lynch vote is worth 2 and Henry’s is worth 0. Due to his keen powers of observation, Shawn may survive attempts on his life. However, as the game progresses, he becomes increasingly distracted and vulnerable to death. (Secrets) For the first day/night cycle, you have 100% immunity from lynches and night kills. For each cycle thereafter, your immunity decreases by 20% until you reach 0%, at which time you are completely vulnerable to death.

Burton "Gus" Guster – Every night he attempts to crack the safe. If he correctly cracks the safe, he keeps the items inside. Every safe combination is comprised of 3 dials; each dial's range is from 1 to 5. On the first attempt, Gus guesses the combination. The host thereafter informs him whether each number he guessed is incorrect and whether it needs to be higher or lower.

Carlton Lassiter – Conducts a polygraph test every night on a player of his choice. (Secrets) Carlton must select the player to receive that night's polygraph test by the end of each day phase. When interrogated, that player must answer five specific questions, but must lie about at least two of them. Carlton is made aware of how many the player has lied about, but not which questions. The five questions are as follows:
1) Have you killed anyone?
2) At any point in the game have you had BTSC?
3) Do you have my cup of coffee?
4) If role checked, will you appear as bad?
5) Do you have an active night power?

Frank O'Hara – If alignment checked, he appears as a baddie. (Secrets) Frank is given anonymous BTSC with a new player of his choice each day. When he chooses the person to have BTSC with, he must also specify to the hosts who he wants to convince them to vote for in the lynch. If he is successful, then he will steal their item.

Jerry Carp – May only use the kill if (Secrets) he receives one or more votes during the preceding day.

Lou Gamble - May only use the kill if (Secrets) he is targeted by one or more actions the preceding night.

Jack Atwater – May only use the kill if (Secrets) he is one of the top three posters during the preceding day period.

Pierre Despereaux – If alignment checked, he appears as a baddie. He may win with any team. (Secrets) In order to win, Pierre must acquire the Famous Painting. To do so, each night he will swap the item he holds with an item another player holds. If the player he chooses has more than one item, he will swap it with one of those items randomly selected. He will not be told how many items the player he targets holds.

ITEMS

Here is what I spent Henry Spencer:
MovingPictures07 wrote: Here is all of the information pertaining to every item in the game. You may not under any circumstances discuss or hint at any of this information in the thread. If you do so, it will be met with incredibly swift and harsh punishment from the host.

FYI the information in parentheses is secret information only told to the player specified if/when they acquire the respective item. The non-parentheses information is told to any player if/when they acquire the item.

Pineapple: When this item is given to another player, it will nullify that player’s vote. This item is used during the Day Phase. This item is continuously gifted instead of put into the safe after use. (If Shawn Spencer gives this item to either Mr. Yin or Mr. Yang, their current victim will be immediately released)

Car Keys: A player can choose to use this item one night only to protect them from night kills, and they cannot hold it for more than three nights. (If Burton "Gus" Guster acquires this item he can hold it indefinitely and it will become an autosave instead of requiring him to choose to use it)

Cup of coffee (three cream, four sugars): Keeps the player awake for a stakeout; that player may watch one player and track their night target. (Carlton Lassiter can use this twice)

Roller Skates: If a player uses this item, they can choose 25% of the living players to be in the next day’s poll, but there is a 50% chance one of those names will be randomly replaced with their own. This item can only be used once in total (unless Juliet acquires it, then twice). (If Juliet O'Hara acquires this item she can choose 25% of the living players without being at risk of her own name being put in the poll, but the item can only be used once by Juliet, even if it has already been used once by someone else)

Baby Monitor: The player who uses this item will learn the result of Madeleine’s psychological profile without learning the identity of the player being checked. Once used, this item must be given to another player rather than placed in the safe. (Chief Karen Vick knows the identity of the player Madeleine is checking)

House Keys: The player who uses this item can protect another player from kills for one night. (If Henry Spencer uses this item, the targeted player will be protected from death for an entire day/night cycle)

Psych Profile: If a player uses this item, they can remove one other player from the poll, but not him/herself. (If Madeleine Spencer acquires this item she may choose to take anyone off the poll, including herself)

Engagement Ring: This item links the player who uses the item with the player of their choice. If one player is lynched or killed, the other takes their place. They also gain permanent BTSC with each other. This item can only be used once in total (unless Buzz acquires it, then twice). (If Buzz McNab acquires this item, he may use it on two players other than himself)

Apple: Using this item will allow the player to be told the actual vote tally (including vote manipulation) of the preceding day. (If Abigail Lytar acquires this item, she will be allowed to find out the value of her vote one extra time)

Title to Airstream (RV): This item does nothing! (If Woody the Coroner acquires this item, he will be protected from night kills for as long as he holds it. However, he cannot hold any other items at the same time, so any extra items he acquires must be immediately passed on to other players)

Necklace: If a player holds this item when Carlton hooks them up to his polygraph, the necklace will allow them to get out of it, giving him no results. (If Marlowe Viccellio acquires this item, she can use it once during the game to learn the role of a player in Juliet’s custody)

Ankle Weights: This item does something! But the player who uses it won't know what until they use it. Once used, the player must wear the ankle weights until the end of the day period. During the night, they may gift this item. If they do not gift it by the end of the night period, they will wear them again the subsequent day period. Thus, this item will never enter the safe. (If anyone but Mary Lightly uses this item, they will be subject to a posting restriction of 3 posts per day. If Mary acquires this item, he knows what it does and he can use it himself to also be protected from Mr. Yin and Mr. Yang)

Pricless Coin: Allows the player who uses the item to control another player’s vote. (Once Frank O'Hara acquires the priceless coin he can forego the portion of his role where he gains temporary BTSC and must convince players to vote the way he specifies. Instead, going forward he may just steal one item from another player each night. This ability only lasts so long as he holds the priceless coin)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pistol: The player who uses this item gets a one time kill, but it only has a 25% chance of being successful. Each player can only use this once. (If Jerry Carp acquires this item he can use it to attempt to auto-kill Henry, with a 50% chance of success)

Threatening Photograph: A player can use this item to role block another player. (If Lou Gamble acquires this item, he can role block a player for up to three consecutive nights unless they choose to tell him their role, but the blocked player will not know how long the block is going to last. Each night they will have a chance to tell Lou their role)

Evidence Log: This item does nothing! (If Jack Atwater acquires this item he will appear as a civilian to alignment checks for as long as he holds the item)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crossword Puzzle: This item does nothing! (If Mr. Yin acquires this item, he can use it once to shorten Shawn’s time by 24 hours)

Straight Jacket: This item does nothing! (If Mr. Yang acquires this item, she can use it once to shorten Shawn’s time by 24 hours)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Famous Painting: This item does nothing! (Pierre Despereaux wins if he acquires this item and holds onto it until either he is eliminated or the game ends)

Let us know what questions you have!

You were an awesome bunch of players, thanks for playing! It was a seriously fun game to "co-host" with my wife, who should get pretty much all the credit for this seriously epic game.

Props to the civilians and Elo for pulling off the win! There were times that we really thought each baddie team was going to win it for sure, so this endgame comeback was really cool to see unfold.

In the end, it was items that ended up deciding the game. :mafia:

This was a very fun game to watch. I find it interesting that the most consensus civilian read of the game for many phases seemingly (BDH) is the one that survived.

Thanks everyone for making this a very easy MoD job. :)

Alex can attest that I was worried we were handicapping the civilians quite a bit because there was a lot of opportunity for vote manipulation in there. So we tried to balance that with the limitations of the Crooked Cops kills, and with Yin and Yang having the possibility of the kill getting stopped by Shawn each day. We also revealed all the roles for that reason. In the end the vote manipulation did not end up being as large a factor as we anticipated. Yet the fact that we came down to the intense end game that we did, with it really being anyone's game up until the item actions were submitted reassured me about the balance. At first we really thought Epi and Timmer were going to run away with the game. Then INH played masterfully using items like the priceless coin and the pineapple. I thought for sure the Crooked Cops were going to snatch victory in the end game. But then BDH came through like a champ for the civs and pulled out the win. I mean, how insane?! You guys were awesome, you made this a great game to host and were an awesome bunch of players. I think this is the most fun I have had hosting in a very long time!

BDH used the Pistol on Russ, which had a 25% chance of killing him (and did), but what you screwed you guys was that he also used the Threatening Photograph on BWT, blocking him.

I'm working on getting an image version of my item tracker here, should be done really shortly!

So what helped decide the game was that BDH kept trying to crack the safe, and he eventually did, netting him 11 items!!

Here is the item tracker!! It shows who had what item during every phase. You'll have to open it in a new window by clicking that link because The Syndicate apparently doesn't want to display the entire image.

DFaraday 2.0 was the first one to crack the safe on Night 4. The combination was 2-4-3.
Then BigDamnHero cracked it a second time on Night 7. That combination was 5-2-1.
Then the combination reset on Night 8 to 4-4-4, but no one alive guessed that.

I got BTSC with Lorab.

I was pretending to be BDH's role since he polygraphed me and I knew something about it. I lied about being blocked Night 2 and changed only one of the questions to reflect the item I needed (instead of BDH's coffee), which just so happened to be the freaking Night Lorab got polygraphed and asked about coffee. :faint:

Go civs!!!

Sorry I didn't play very well this game. My instincts were totally off in the front end of the game. Sorry I killed you, Matt. I had the pistol at the time.

I felt really guilty taking everyone's items if they voted the way I wanted them to in BTSC. But it was also a fun game to pick the right target.

Also, much easier to start a BTSC chat, without being able to reveal who you are (either role or player), and have the other person believe you are civ. I subtly or not so subtly revealed my identity to those players to whom it made sense. Others I left more ambiguity.

My last BTSC was Epi. Mid way through I knew he was bad because he lied to me, and I knew it--but he lied well enough that I had a glimmer doubt in myself and totally played that moment poorly and basically point blank asked why he was .lying. He gave a good enough answer that I could talk myself into a plausible reason that he'd believe that I possibly believed him (something about maybe his power was stolen that night, so it showed up as a fail for him). But I could have played out that moment much more gracefully by just saying, "Oh, ok," and not pursuing further conversation.

What's funny is that I thought that if he was bad he was Y/Y. And I took the risk that if he thought he could trust that I trusted him, he'd keep me around, at least for a little while. When I was killed that night, I assumed that I was wrong and he actually was a cop. And until he was revealed, went with that assumption and kept kicking myself for taking the risk of revealing myself to him and thinking he wouldn't kill me right away.

Turns out, the other mafia decided to kill me. Curious why they decided to kill me!

linkitis: @Epi: Not only did I know that I was asked about coffee when I was LD-ed that night, but I also knew from russ that Carlton wanted the coffee.

That was an intense time. I falsely pretended to think you were BDH, if you recall. We tried to cover our bases by killing both you and Quin anyway.

Still, a pants-changing moment in the game for me. I'm glad you won.

We tried to cover our bases by killing both you and Quin anyway.

Still, a pants-changing moment in the game for me. I'm glad you won.
But you didn't kill me. The cops did.
We tried. See the riddles.

It's a variation of a riddle you solved on RM, if I'm not mistaken.

Good job, BDH and Eloh!

I knew Epi was bad once he put me on the two person lynch poll. I decided to point in his direction as my dying act. And I was right about Epi and Timmer being teammates, I just got the wrong team.

Fella, we were trying our hardest to get two mafia up there. We failed to engineer that. :disappoint:

We knew if we could get rid of the Crooked Cops, we'd be golden, but we sucked ass at it.
