Day 1: Bears in Space

The group decided that the Jean Genie was most likely in the Levi Strauss Space Station, and thus traveled there in a one-way space shuttle.

On board the station, the group began looking through all the rooms and cubbies for the Jean Genie.

"This red light is blinking," said MovingPictures07.

"Press it! Press the red button!" said Llama.

"What if it makes the space station self-detonate?" asked Dragon.

"Yeah, or negates life support?" wondered Epignosis.

"I'm pretty sure it's an audio file," said Elohcin.

"How do you figure?" asked A Person.

"It's labeled 'Audio File'", Elohcin replied, and then pressed the button.

A computerized voice began to speak.

Hello Travelers. This is JACEN speaking. The Jean Genie will be around in the nighttime, for he sleeps during the day as all nocturnal creatures must.

I have a story to impart to you that comes from mythology.

This is the story of the Seven Sisters.
Seven sisters, fair of face and mind traveled the lands for many years. Near November of one especially warm year, Orion gazed upon these Seven Sisters and fell instantly in love with them all. He pursued them year after year. Eventually, Zeus heard the Sisters' prayers and turned them into birds. The birds ascended past the troposphere and into the galaxy, becoming stars. We know them know as the Seven Sisters constellation, or Pleiades.

What's interesting to me is that we can only detect six stars in Pleiades with the naked eye, yet nearly every culture has an origin story about this constellation of Pleiades that calls it Seven Sisters, or a similar permutation. Seven, when only six have been detectable for all these years by the human eye. Not until the advancement of our telescopes were we able to confirm the existence of this seventh star. But yes, she's there.

"Interesting," mused Ninjablooper.

"Speaking of mythology, are you like Jason from the Argonauts?" Dr Wilgy asked.

No, my name is spelled J-A-C-E-N, which is just a phonetic way to spell the pronunciation humans tend to favor of my technical name, JCN.

"That might be something we should muse upon later," said Quin.

Suddenly, the station's lights went off. A few seconds later, the red-hued auxiliary power came on, and with it screeching sirens alarmed.

"Sirens? Aren't the Seven Sisters also known as 'sirens'?" asked Scotty.

No one could answer as the station took a hit, unsettling all of the guests off their feet. Everyone helped one another up, and held on to various stationary objects on the ship, lest another impact occur.

"Hey guys, JCN isn't reacting!" Made called from the deck.

"Try rebooting the system!" JaggedJimmyJay suggested.

"It's gone completely dead!" Sorsha confirmed.

Suddenly all the systems booted up on the entire ship. A voice came over the intercom, startling everyone.

"This is the Seventh Sister. I have incapacitated JCN. I'm also disconnecting the lifepods. You have a day's worth of oxygen - unless some of you are heavy breathers."

The actual Pleiades constellation.

It is now Day 1. You have 24 hours to discover the Seventh Sister.

I didn't say anything about why.

I recall in the earliest stage of GY!BE, Sloonei ripped me up for a few "hesitant" bits he found in my posts, one of which was "I guess". I think he identified a real tell in my posts. You said "I guess" in your discussion of Sorsha in a context that reminds me of that scenario.

Funny enough, when I included those two words, I was thinking, "These two will probably get me in hot water with somebody."

I used to those two words instead of the sentence, "I'm not the best person to judge Sorsha, because I'm almost never right." I opted for "I guess," because I am not interested in making excuses for why I may have a hard time forming a clear opinion on someone.

Feelings are fleeting so early. Most posts are absent of content that can be readily judged. The beginnings of the Mafia thread are often a pile of null posts with a sprinkled mix of non-null posts, and this thread is no different. For those players listed I see a collection of null and at least one isolated moment of something other than null, and that's reflected in my categories.

I just think it's worth noting that of the eight people (about half the roster) you got something from, none of them gave you anything but a one-way read.

A qualifier I should acknowledge is that Sloonei's catches in that game were, while in his eyes a general suspicion, accurate because of my independent role. I wasn't rocking the boat precisely because my task in that game was solo (which was what Sloonei correctly observed), but my uncertain language reflected the truth of my uncertain reads. In that regard it may reflect similarly on you in this example -- and in this game there is no independent unless it's the extra role/seventh star or something.

Between a full time job, masters program and boyfriendly duties I barely sleep. my brain is usually a slushy as well when free time rolls around.
The team looked great, but a few too many players decided smoking drugs and not practicing days before a playoff was a wise idea

Nice! You had an easy win against me at least, despite my record being OK I forgot to play and never set my team or anything lol I barely listen to music man and that's mostly at work. I figure I can sleep and have fun again in a year-ish!

I've seen both civ and scum moments from Scotty and llama. Although, Scotty's is more of a 'I find this suspicious, but he seems genuine in his justification' thing.

What I like about llama is that he has drawn attention to himself deliberately and doesn't seem to give a damn. He made the game's first accusation, he assumed a confident posture in that read, and then he placed the game's first vote. At face value I like that kind of behavior.

I don't know how serious llama was about his initial accusation, but I do think Sorsha's response to it is suspicious. In the earliest stages of a game, it can be genuinely difficult for a baddie to respond to an assertive accusation, even when the baddie knows the accusation can't possibly be informed by anything substantial. There's still the matter of forcing out a response of some kind and trying to look legitimate in the process. Sometimes when I have found myself in that position, my response has been to offer a jokey retort to my accuser rather like Sorsha's here. The purpose is that it alleviates the pressure of the accusation by adding levity and humor to the exchange, and generally other players aren't going to be pinged by that. The problem is that it evidences a desire to respond without an accompanying desire to explore. Sorsha does not seem interested in why llama threw poop at her. I just typed a whole paragraph about that post you guys!

Llama jumped on my check in post literally two minutes after I posted it. My initial gut reaction was that it was a joke because I don't see how anything I said in that post could be found to be suspicious. So I responded with a joke. In hind sight, sure I should have made sure that he was actually serious about it but being jumped on like that right out of the gate isn't something I'm accustomed to.

Even after he explained himself.

I tend to view the game in terms of Hunters and Blenders. Some skilled baddies are able to seem like Hunters, but most Hunters are good. A lot of civilians are Blenders because that's just their playstyle, but a Blender is more likely to be bad.
