I guess if someone has to preside over terrible, horrible, anti-freedom regulations that are ruining America, it might as well be an awesome person like you!
This is a selected line from the letter of recommendation Logan wrote me (before extracting this passage):

I would be extremely pleased to collaborate with Alison on any future projects, and in my opinion she would be a great asset to any professional organization, even one such as yours dedicated to robbing honest, hard-working Americans of their freedoms. Alison is a committed advocate of government meddling, however, so I'm sure she will fit right in.

you guys!!! you guys!!! really!!!!

I KNOW so many people hate the job I do and want me to quit it and I want to too -but that road - is tangled.

In the mean time in the job I DO do - We had one of our big evaluations. It's a 5 star scale. I got 4 stars. I ran that shift. I got 5 perfect pizza's. I crankily kicked EVERYONE'S ass about dotting t's and crossing i's.

In the mean time, I got the highest evaluation that this store got since '09. Long before either me or the gm in charge now had been around. I dreamed the impossible dream.

Through no gm, through one gm, through my current gm. I've always kept working kept striving.

I am so very proud of my store right now. I knew we could always do it.

And also - this is my dream. this was my dream when there was no gm. I knew we could be a 4 star store. we just had to work hard enough.

I'm just so srrsy happy - I got a 4 star. Our store hasn't seen that since 04. I am really dancing in the streets.

We can also be a 5 star store...it just means pushing the dream.

And also I KNOW so many people are going to be cranky at this post. But it's a fucking victory. And I need all the victories I can get.

You are an inspiration to us all, bea. :)

Where is your store so that I can shop there and give you a good review?

My new novel is finally out. You should all buy a copy. And then tell your friends to buy one. And then have them tell their friends.

I'd have to buy a lot of copies to get free shipping :(
I am curious to read it now but I have a lot of books to transport over to England with me already and don't really need to add more.

Logan, the link you posted says it is NOT on Kindle, it has a link to ask the publisher to put it on Kindle, but i cannot find how to buy it in Kindle in the link you posted. I don't mind spending the extra 6 bucks, but I do most of my reading on mass transit, and I do it on my tablet. If you can give me a Kindle specific link, I will buy it.

Amazon decided not to combine them both into one listing for some reason. Here's a link to the Kindle version.

Today in class (I am teaching Julius Caesar, if you were wondering), a student told his classmates, "My mind is blown every day I come in here."

I damn near shed a tear.

Actually, when the student made that comment, I was discussing the ancient Roman perspective of beer and wine.

This is awesome.
I really hope I will have this experience, too, some day.
I'm not quite there yet....I currently spend most of my class sessions just trying not to say shit that is blatantly false, and have not quite figured out how to make time for blowing minds.......but I did manage to turn one of my students this semester (an engineering major, no less!) into a genuine lover of Donne, so I'm willing to take my small victories where I can get them at the moment. :noble:

I don't know you well at all, Epi, but from what I've seen of you in the forums, I can imagine that you are a very, very good teacher. And I have so much respect for that. :srsnod:

What grade do you do Julius Caesar with?

Thank you for the kind words. I just try to be the kind of teacher I would want to have. I don't think of myself as an "English teacher," but rather something different everyday, whether it's a comedian, an art connoisseur, a historian, a scientist, a musician, or freaking James Joyce (yes, one day I dressed up as James Joyce and didn't break character once- even at lunch with my colleagues). I don't have a blast all the time, but I try to.

Julius Caesar[/quote] is taught in tenth grade (sophomore year).

How long have you been teaching? Favorite part? Least favorite part?

I just learned I was accepted into the University of Oregon! :lorab:

I'll start in the winter, after being a part-time student at the local community college the last couple years, I'm off to learn at the big university. Still working on my undergrad, but it's a step in the right direction. :D

I am also a Mathematics major. Yup.

It will. I'm planning on teaching it, but pursuing a math degree specifically.

Once I'm graduated, I'll be off to Thailand/South Korea/Japan (one of these countries) to teach English. I'm looking forward to it.

Nice. My favorite teacher in high school who taught me algebra 2 and trig/pre-calc and she went to Hong Kong to teach.

I know this is late, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm so proud of you!! Good job newt!!! Make sure you enjoy the heck out of big Uni life. Learn everything you can! Sometimes it even happens during class. ;)

Srrsly though, college is an amazing experience. Make sure to experience as much of it as you absolutely can.

I'll pass on the best bit of advice I got about college and unintentionally failed to follow:

"College is the best experience of your life. People think the goal of college is to graduate. This is false. The goal of college is to not graduate. And eventually the University expects you to be done with them and move on. You should avoid this at all costs. If you think really hard about it, Professors are just people who got really good at not graduating."

It was the wisest thing I'd ever heard. The only comfort I can take in it is that the person who spoke it accidentally graduated before I accidentally did.

Thanks bea! I'm really looking forward to it. I tried the big uni life when I was 18, but just wasn't prepared mentally or socially. That's not to say I've got everything lined up for me now :D but I've got a semblance of a plan at least, and a better respect for classroom learning I didn't have before.

Thursday night football has a tendency to look ugly. One time is always gonna be readier than the other. The Bengals are better than that, they just prepared like shit.

After 2 months of a crazy yoga regimen, and for about a week now, I've been at my weight goal (well one lb under the top threshold of a healthy weight for my height/frame). Basically, I'm one cupcake away from cataclysm hahaha.

Will be definitely go down more for vanity reasons though, but nothing crazy. I saw some pictures of myself last weekend, and was like "Whoa, wtf, that's me now?"

Congrats! I am at 20 down and 20 to go. I'm overall looking to be leaner/healthier/stronger. I know you like yoga...have you heard of Piyo with Chalene Johnson?
