Not that I'm saying he's a minimalist, but many of John Cage's own indications on how to play his pieces would make for intriguing Mafia game powers.

Mongooses are weasel-like creatures that belong to the group of Carnivores. There are 33 mongoose species; they live in Europe, Asia and Africa. Mongooses like rocky areas, but they can be found in forests and semi-aquatic areas. Since they are easily adaptable, they are not endangered.

It seems like an oversimplification to attribute their not being endangered to single cause like that.

I'm sure it helps immensely. Loss of habitat is a big causal factor for species depopulation. So an adaptable animal would be more likely to survive if it's original habitat is mowed down for another mall, or a chemical plant.

Of course it helps, but I just think it's a bit simplistic. The way it's phrased is as if being endangered is the default and lack of it needs an explanation. Why aren't aren't bluejays endangered? Why are sturgeon? Why aren't penguins? Why aren't gophers? Saying an animal is only alive because of a single factor may be true in some cases (cows, because we eat them) but I imagine there are lots of reasons why mongooses are not endangered (humans don't hunt them, not a ton of natural predators, they breed quickly etc.)

Re: Film Director Mafia: Signups

That could be the primary cause, though. Blue jays & gophers are highly adaptable. When I lived in Kalispell, Montana, we had gophers right in town. Coyotes, too. They can adapt to anything, and are hunted very harshly, even more heavily than wolves. Wolves, though, are less adaptable when it comes to where they can live successfully, and they are closer to endangered.

If we figure out a way to live in Antarctica, the penguins will be endangered soon enough. Not very adaptable, penguins. When you take several factors into account, adaptability seems to be a tipping factor. So simplified, yes, simplistic, no.

I think it's weird to give a reason why a species isn't endangered, as if being endangered is the natural state and any deviation from it requires explanation. It makes more sense to me to give an explanation for why a species IS endangered.

It's like saying "That armchair isn't on fire, because..." Let's just assume armchairs are not on fire, and if one is, we'll offer an explanation for that.

Re: Film Director Mafia: Signups

Adaptability is a trait that can keep a species viable. In comparing two very similar different species, one in trouble and the other not, it can make the difference. This is why I did the coyote vs wolves comparison. Coyotes are more successful in the face of human development becasue they are more adaptable.

They are also NOT apex predators, like wolves. This is also a factor; WE are the apex predator in all of our environments (unless there are tigers, we are pwned by tigers). So wolves are more intolerable to us than 'yotes. But the point was about adaptability, and that point stands.

So it wasn't weird, it was a comparison tool to aid in demonstrating my thesis.

I was referring to Ricochet's original post as being weird, not your comparison. I would never dream of, when describing an animal, needing to add an explanation to why it is not endangered, the same way I would never dream of explaining why an armchair isn't on fire when describing it.

I would assume that many of the species eaten by mongooses are endangered because mongooses are easily adaptable and look like vicious beasts.

sort of like cats when you let them out they go to the woods and kill birds and squirrels even if you feed them they kill them because it's in their nature many birds are near extinction because of cats

They do not kill marmots, because marmots live in high tundra areas. However, they have been known to kill llamas and walruses, not for food, but because it is in their nature to kill large beasts.

They don't kill wolves, though, k? Cause wolves are killed by people & tigers. Not mongooses (mongeese? weasels?).

Mongeese are the epitome of evolution, except for marmots.

Wolves are pretty rad, though I wouldn't want to meet one in a dark alley if you know what I mean.

it just seems likely that most species will die of extinction before humans and humans will have to eat each other before eventually dying of extinction unless something fortunate like a nuclear war will happen soon k
