Awesome G, I'll check them out when I have a chance!!

To be fair to Tex, since I want to make sure that everyone is getting scored for what they intended me to hear, I have stuck this in:
***REVISION***
The video I found did not exactly match the version of the song Tex intended to submit, so I thought it would only be fair to re-evaluate. The correct version is here: https://vimeo.com/178893108
I appreciate the difference, and based on both my enjoyment of the song and perception of thematic fit, I am retroactively re-scoring this submission to 7.5, making it tied with sprityo's submission in 7th place and surpassing TH's by a hair.
This has affected the current standings, nudging Tex a hair above iaafr.

It is 30 songs to listen to if you’re doing it 3 at a time

Yep, listening to and evaluating 30 songs takes time. :nicenod:

Someone had suggested earlier, I think G-Man, that the winner of Walrus might get to be the next host/judge. I think that's a neat idea, or at least the winner gets first dibs. nutella brought this to us though so I defer to her. :)

Yeah that sounds good to me, and if the winner isn't up for it, it can go down the list to whoever else wants to

Alright, I can be ready for Thursday 10/24 same time for rounds 4-6. Might shoot for 5:45 (8:45 eastern) since there are a few longer tracks and we have the Rythm bot now so I'll probably run live reveals in discord this time (means the songs will play for anyone who joins the audio channel, you'll be muted so it's just for listening and you can react in real time in the text chat). If you can be there to listen along, great, if not don't worry I'll be posting them here just like last time as well.

I would actually be okay with shorter, but more frequent sessions. Nutella's timezone is like 5 hours behind mine so I'll always miss the end if they are too long.

Good to know, I kind of worried about it going too long. Maybe I'll just do 4 and 5 this time, then 6-7 next time and finish with 8-10. Or some arrangement. :shrug2:

No, it wasn't the sound, it was the cold, dry air entering my ears.

Not a fan of air conditioner in general. I've never had it in my home before, so I'm just used to the heat or to surviving with fans.

I'm okay with it in crowded rooms during really hot days. But people exaggerate it.

Yeah I can't stand the heat so I love AC and it feels really good at first, but if I'm inside for a while and it's blasting i can get cold. I keep a sweater in my office over the summer even though I hate being too hot bc I also get chilly when it's overpoweringly air conditioned.

(Girls generally prefer warmer climates I think. And I think I'm closer to them in that regard).

ROUND FOUR

4. The Cyclops - "Nobody" has hurt me! Give me your best example of lyrical (or titular) wordplay.

Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey

Lol this is very cute and silly. But it didn't take me very long to feel pretty done with it. Plus it feels like it's sort of based on an obnoxious stereotype which contributes to it becoming grating/cringey rather quickly.

Tarantula and Kasahara Yuri - Libera Me From Hell

Huh. I don't really know what to make of this. It's an... odd juxtaposition to say the least. I'm not particularly blown away by the lyrics. I'm left feeling like I'm missing something. The context of the anime this is associated with, maybe (Gurren Lagaan). It's unique I guess but I don't get it. And I don't really enjoy the opera singing. I like the piano loop over the rap though.

(video not working, found another)

1200 Micrograms - Acid for Nothing

This obviously would have worked for round 3 XD Probably would have placed better in that round at least. But I suppose it works here well enough, since the title is a parody of a song it samples, plus the "wake-walking in dreams" part -- such an acid thought lol. I find myself enjoying it a bit despite not usually getting much out of this genre. It drags on a while though.

H.E.R. - Hard Place

She has a pretty good voice and reminds me a bit of Corinne Bailey Rae. Talented for sure but not really my genre. Lyrically I have to admit I don't find it particularly captivating or strong on the wordplay front, and the chorus repeats too much imo.

This a really solid demonstration of creativity and flow in rap/hip-hop. Impressively dense verses with some very satisfying rhymes and puns.

Vampire Weekend - Ya Hey

Yesss I love this song and the whole album it's from. The lyrics are very clever and just *so* delightfully Jewish. There's so much to unpack in them regarding a complicated understanding of God and humanity. I highly recommend reading the annotations on Genius. Great pick.
