You can make MP cry if you want to.
You can leave your friends behind.
Cause your friends don't make MP cry, and if they don't make MP cry then they're
no friends of mine.

So maybe I've been reading too many books about occultism lately, but I was looking at the five Rush albums I just ordered and noticed that there is occult symbolism featured on each of their packaging.
The Counterparts liner notes have Earth, Air, Fire and Water, the four classical elements, as well as a hexagram, which is used in a variety of rituals.
Test For Echo's notes appear to depict a lost continent, the belief in which is central to Madame Blatvatsky's theosophic works.
The notes for Vapor Trails feature Tarot cards.
The Snakes and Arrows disk has an Ouroboros on it, the snake eating its own tail that signifies eternity or the Great Work in alchemy.
Clockwork Angels has numerous alchemical and astrological symbols on the cover.
Then of course, there's the 2112 pentagram. I wonder if Rush are secret occultists.

Incidentally, I voted for Rush in the poll, but it was a hard call. In the Court of the Crimson King, Lizard, Islands, and Red are all among my favorite albums ever. But I don't care for KC's later stuff, and Rush is just so awesome.

Sorry, man, I know how much it sucks to be NKed N1 or lynched D1.
Good to hear life is good though. I'm just relaxing myself, since my weekend will surely be busy. Can't complain though! I'm getting close to winding up some major projects I'm working on, at least well enough before I leave, so last week or two before the wedding I should be able to breathe a bit. I do need to continue prepping for the Principles of Accounting I class I'm teaching in the Fall though... still feel like I have a while to go before I'm ready to teach it, despite the really large amount of work I feel I've put into it already.

I love King Crimson and Talking Heads, but this is an easy ranking for me:
Rush > King Crimson > Talking Heads

So glad I don't have to worry about school anymore. I do have to talk to a group of French students (the Tocqueville Fellows) on Monday though, and I have no idea what I'm going to say to them.

I'm jealous. I love the PhD program, but it's definitely a love/hate relationship.
What can I say though? I am becoming a college professor because I can't just stay away from school, so I'm a masochist.

Our wildly divergent opinions on Discipline explain a lot about why you love Talking Heads and I don't really like them.

None of them are perfect. That's my problem with King Crimson: Each album has something I don't like, but as KC goes, those my top three.
Wonder why A Scarcity of Miracles is on no one's list. Amazing stuff.

Indeed!
And don't worry, I still really like Lizard, I just don't like it as much as the 9 above it.

Depends on my mood as well, but I think that list is pretty solid.

I put off buying Islands for years because everyone hates it so much. When I finally heard it, I was amazed at how good it was and confused about why no one else likes it. I'm still confused about that, actually.

Islands is solid. I don't understand the hate either.
What I don't understand more is the hate for 80s Crimson, particularly Beat.

But I don't hate them.

The best live King Crimson videos I have seen are those from the 80's.
But I will definitely say that Discipline is heads and shoulders above the other 80's albums.
