I have a big problem with remembrance day, and I was wondering what your take on this is.

The holiday, like you said was initially to honor the men and women who died during the first world war. While today it serves as a time to honor all who served (past & current) in the armed forces.

I think an anti-war sentiment is natural for anyone who tries to really take in the full scope of the brutality of war, specifically the global conflict which gave birth to the holiday, and the one that began some 20 years later.

In my view, the best way to honor fallen soldiers, is to do everything possible to keep people out of that situation. Both reducing the commitment that we have to fielding soldiers, and reducing the negative impact that we contribute to on civilians abroad.

Instead of honoring past soldiers with education and reflection, we honor them with poppies and heroic tales... Remembrance day isn't even observed as a holiday in Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.

A lot of things that we see in society, in Canada today show that we've learned little to nothing from these conflicts: Pro war sentiment, superiority complex, racism, discrimination

I always find myself getting upset about the handling of remembrance day and trying to explain to people, it's not about buying a poppy and singing Oh Canada, or giving a moment of silence. Take a moment to truly reflect on what was lost, try to think about what they would want as they died in the cold, in the mud, all alone, in the thousands, in the tens of thousands (Canadians), in the millions, tens of millions.

I would say, let's stop taking the time to honor the past with a moment of our time, but let's honor the past by actually giving a shit about what happened. Stop shaming people for not donating to a charity event when the government itself doesn't care enough about it to make it a holiday, or to educate people about it in schools. In my opinion Remembrance day is a farce, because we don't.

Elsewhere. Living my life. Every time I have looked in here, people haven’t actually been playing mafia, so I’ve ducked back out. That’s not to detract from anyone’s fun, I just haven’t felt any way to get involved and have had other things to do.

I have a bit of work to do today, so I will continue to not be around much.
