Nice to win this, it's not my first win as a baddie in this site but it's the first one where I made it to the endgame (in the first one I was lynched on day 2 and was used for bussing). I'm really happy for it because my scum game used to be atrocious until about a a year ago, and since then I've been making an effort to improve it. I'd seen some results in my other home site, but succeeding as scum in the Syndicate was my ultimate test, since civ play here is a level above imo.

Thanks to my teammates for this, you guys were awesome. And for the civs to endure the torture we submitted you for two weeks, lol.

Ok so now that DFS is over I can tell it.

The reason I picked Marmot over DF yesterday was that I ISO'd him on both games and thought he looked much more civ in DFS than in here. And I knew he was a civ in DFS.

I don't know what caused him to have a meta difference in the two games, but I thought it was alignment. Considering both lynches weren't amazing to begin with, it seemed likea good bet to make.

Protip: put on some heavy metal on and grab some videogame that involves fast button mashing. So you can aim your rage at a more productive direction.

B. Become a captain, a position one can gain trust from
C. Pick all townies as crewmates.
D. Make sure all townie crewmates are nice, supatown, trustworthy, and non-mutiny-y
E. Use your 'trust' of your crewmates to make the discussion more about who should be on the poll than scumhunting
F. Use your position as captain to win over your crewmates with money and good BTSC chat
G. Try to get scummy-looking low-posters lynched, like Wilgy
H. When Sokoth becomes an option, don't move to him late. Things are moving fast, and it will look like you know what he is
I. When asked by speedchuck if he should switch to Wilgy rather than SQ, give him a non answer to avoid committing to either side
J. Continue to put Glorf on the poll when winning mission. Protect the townies, earning an odd position
K. When the pressure gets high, quit the captain job as a measure of faith. Would mafia give up power?
L. Use superior arguing skill to shut down TH. Make him one of the targets.
M. Care about the health of the game, so focus early kills on low posters.
N. Be confident in ability to lead town and wiggle out of lynches with emotion or logic. Don't nightkill other high-posters.
O. ???
P. Profit.

This list is not fair to Golden, sure. He'd say that if I didn't. But just off the top of my head, I could see Golden being scum. It's very possible.

To answer your question, I harbor a moderate suspicion of DDL, but it has waned. DDL acts like any sudden shift in votes is someone saving someone, because, you know, there are always nine mafia members in a given phase. His "defense" of Sokoth sounds like more of the same.

In it you will find lots of bite sized takes, jokey rejections of arguments against him and a lot of trying to make it look like he is providing effort. For those playing along at home you will see that DDL also spent a ton of the game absolutely roasting our scum teammate Wolbre btw, in case you want to see how DDL acts when he is playing the distance game (yes I still think Enrique and DDL are scum teammates).

Personally I can see a ton of similarities there though you can make up your own mind. DDL can you find a civilian game where you've made a similar series to compare to? I want to see if that one post after other catch up series is generally a Mafia trait of yours or if it's just a more general thing that you do.

Essentially I think Golden purposefully wrapped me up in suspicion at the start of the game in order to discredit me in case I ever came after him. That's close to what he pulled on me in courage too although he refuses to admit that. His refusal to admit that is what has kept my suspicion of him alive.

This is inaccurate. I didn't explain what "too obvious" means. Heck that is not the explanation that is an adjective that expresses how bad I am at it.

I don't think there is a single reason for why I was (or am) bad at being bad. I've lost games because I tried to create cases and they felt forced. In some cases I'd start arguments with people and they would notice it was forced. In others I'd just not find anything meaningful to say and get marked as lurking.

One day I asked people in my other forum why I was so bad at scum and two of them gave me explanations. One said he usually gets me because I had a "bad" attitide about the civilians, like saying how bad the civs are or saying that the lynch was a fluke (I now try to apply that tell on other people). The other guy said I just feel much more chill when I'm a civ.

So I began to experiment and I think I reached a frame of mind that, if it doesn't make me an amazing scum player, at least makes me less obvious. The main point I think is that now I try to focus more on tone than content. If civ DDL is chill, baddie DDL has to be chill too. So I try to make it look like everything I say is natural, that it comes from an honest place, even if it's BS. If possible, I will admit it's BS before someone else does. Being legit is more important than being supatown.

It helps that my civ meta also changed and became less confident and more open to teamwork. So as a civ I am more open to listening to others and don't tunnel as much, and just say what comes to my mind. As a baddie, I do the same. I try to internalize the frame of mind I have as a civ and put it in my posts as bad.

Also another thing that works sometimes is that I try to be kind and empathetic whenever I can, even if I'm bad. Because I already do that normally, so I just keep doing it as a baddie. And if people like my person when I'm bad, they may mistake the fact they like me with my game alignment. I suppose that makes me a little manipulative, but I figure there's no harm in trying to be a good person all the time and winning some scum games as a bonus.

Oh I do this catching up thing all the time. Heck I've been policing myself to do it less lately. In NF last year there was a stretch where I would just catch up, make two posts and vanish with a "see you next phase". People still use that catchphrase to make fun of me to this day.
