Just One Shot

Bullock took a swig from his flask and wiped his mouth with a dirty coat sleeve. Then he took another. The whiskey ran down two-days worth of stubble. He didn't stop it from dribbling onto his collar.

He was standing outside of a TV repair shop, watching the nightly news from a dozen TV sets in the window. He scowled as the anchor gave a report of the Batman foiling a murder on the outskirts of Gotham City.

Bullock had one more drink and fingered the gun that rested in his holster.

"If this bat can take the law into his own hands, then so can I," Bullock slurred. He whirled around and squinted when he heard strange noises in the alley behind him. He saw a shadow leap onto a fire escape and scurry up the building.

"Thief!" came the cry from the ground.

"Oh no you don't," Bullock said, raising his pistol. He fired once.

In a moment of sobriety, he realized what he had just done. He spoke profanely as he looked around him. He fled, and never checked the body that fell three stories from a derelict apartment building across from an old TV repair shop showing the nightly news.

He heard later that the victim wore zebra strips- black and white, now riddled with red.

a2thezebra has been killed by Detective Harvey Bullock.

It is now Day 3. You have 48 hours to lynch someone.

Yesterday was only a small victory for us, gentlemen. Don't let it go to your heads.

I understand there are a few of you that have information regarding the Batman's identity. I suppose it was only a matter of time before he got sloppy. I firmly believe it does is more harm to know what he does in the night, since there are still a handful of you that would see me just like his recent victim.

He is a vigilante. He doesn't operate within our laws, but as long as he's helping us apprehend the dangerous syndicate mafia that undermine the government of Gotham, I see no reason to press the issue.

I also received word that one of you is plotting to kill me. I'm not going to name any names, but I must admit that I am an old man and do not have the patience to deal with the weak willed. If I am not around tomorrow, please let my wife know that she is the light in the darkness.

I'm not Mr. Freeze. I think you definitely commented on my proposal earlier, right? I asked if he would block two of Nero's suspected teammates and it'd buy him time to find Renee (and also make sure neither of them dies that night).
